Video games used to just be silly little guys in vibrant and fantastical settings going on funky adventures and it makes me really sad that the only games we get like that now are from franchises established back then

In our final episode for Crash Bandicoot 1 we face both Dr. Nitrus Brio and Dr. Neo Cortex as we burn it all down and close out our adventure.
My audio is going to be wonky for this playthrough due to my having lost the audacity files for my side of everything. Whoops!
Welcome to the N. Sane Trilogy! Thyme kicks off the collection with the supposed "dark souls" of PS1 games with Crash Bandicoot 1 and enjoys updated graphics with what he describes as less precise and floaty controls than he remembers.

Interview with the creator, Tokuro Fujiwara.
And here is a new interview with Tomba! creator Tokuro Fujiwara published on PlayStation Blog:
In 1997, when you made Tomba!, most developers focused on making 3D games like Tomb Raider or Crash Bandicoot. You instead decided to mix 2D sprites with perspective-shifting 3D environments. Why? Tokuro Fujiwara: “Tomba! runs on 3D technology, with gameplay designed around 2D principles. This is why it’s described as a 2.5D game. I think 2D games have a certain kind of charm that 3D doesn’t. I also wanted to push the limits of what could be done. To bring my vision to life, I needed to use 2D principles along with 3D CG visuals. This allowed me to create something that felt new on the PlayStation. “There were times when I wondered if I should go 3D instead, 3D games have a very clear sense of space. In 2D, all the action takes place on a flat plane, and multiple layers provide a sense of depth. This means you have to design the game in creative ways so that the different layers don’t conflict. This results in something interesting that can only be achieved with 2D.” What do you hope new players will take away from Tomba! Special Edition? Fujiwara: “Tomba! has many side quests. These come in different varieties and are hidden throughout the game. I encourage players to seek them out. Various items allow players to learn new moves, expanding how levels can be beaten. I hope players search and seal away the Evil Pigs scattered throughout the world, which will unlock even more to see! There are many discoveries to be made. I hope players can relax and enjoy the world of Tomba!” Speaking of genre-bending gameplay. Tomba! feels like an open world despite being described as a side-scrolling platformer. This was largely due to how nonlinearly the levels could be played. Was this done intentionally, or was it something that just happened through development? Fujiwara: “I had envisioned this open-feel game from the very beginning. It was all a blur when things started, but as development progressed, it began taking shape. “You could consider Tomba! an open-world title, a term that was rarely used back then. There’s a wide area with a lot of different content in it. You encounter, discover, and collect various things as you move around. For example, you have to complete certain tasks in Tomba!, but you can wander around freely and complete them however you like. Some tasks and main objectives can even be skipped entirely. Many of the ideas I envisioned for Tomba! back in the day were ideas we see in open-world game design today. “I initially wanted to include 100 quests, but the final game exceeded that. It was hard work for the team to fit it all together on a timeline. What started out as vague ideas in my head ballooned into an amount of content so large it blew my mind!” The original PlayStation was a massive leap in gaming technology. What was it like to experience it back then? Fujiwara: “Game development is an ongoing battle against technology growth. This was the case back then and is still true today. I felt that the PlayStation was such a remarkable improvement in terms of hardware, allowing for greater possibilities. Games went from being rendered in pixels to CG. Game developers had to learn many new skills. Expectations ballooned along with the scope of game ideas. Development environments evolved, which made things challenging but exciting for developers. The introduction of the PlayStation and the advancements from that era still impact games today.” Finally, why do you think it’s important to bring Tomba! back now? Fujiwara: “Tomba! has been around for a long time, but continues to be loved by many. I’ve long wished that the game could be accessible to more people on modern systems. Now that the opportunity is here, I think PlayStation fans today will get a ton of enjoyment out of Tomba!“

I've got a confession to make... I've never played Spyro OR Crash Bandicoot. .....I should play at least one of those today on stream. :P Probably Spyro first. The remaster. Somewhere between 12-2PM. Y'all should stop by and tell me how a pro does it. :P https://www.twitch.tv/zetaneubourn

I was asked by both @beardedladyqueen and @thoughts-of-bear about 5 things that make me happy and my dumbass completely forgot these were in my inbox so I’m so sorry for the delay in actually answering. BUT with that being said, I finally have answers! Thank you both so much for the ask! ❤️
1. Spooky shit. I LOVE spooky shit. Halloween. Horror movies. Ghost stories. The paranormal. Graveyards. The occult. Everything. I was absolutely watching horror movies I should NOT have been watching at like 5 years old and “Friday Night Scary Movie Night” was a staple in my household. Popcorn, really poorly made B rated horror movie, staying up late, and trying to not get scared was a weekly thing and I miss having those movie nights. But because of that my love for anything spooky has bled into my adult life and now it’s just a way of life. So if you ever want to swap ghost stories I’ll be your best friend. 👻
2. Early mornings. I mean like that wonderfully quiet time between 3am and 5:30am. If it’s staying up that late or waking up that early (exception being when I have to wake up at that time for work), I love that time of night/early morning. Things are usually quiet and peaceful and it’s just a really nice time to kind of just exist without the hustle of daily life. As given by my username, my life can be absolutely chaotic at times so it’s nice to be able to have moments to just kind of be. And in relation to the above point, late nights mean spooky times. And as a side note, that time of morning in Animal Crossing New Horizons is amazing.
3. Relaxing in spring/fall weather. Kind of related to the above topic, but when I can’t be up in the super early mornings, I love sitting outside when it’s nice weather in spring or fall and just unwind. I don’t do it as much now because I don’t have a yard, but when I was a kid I loved just laying out in a hammock in nice weather and either take a nap or read. I could get a hammock for my back porch but if I did that I’d have to fight off a horde of spiders and I would just rather not.
4. Playing nostalgic (to me) games. So in addition to spooky movie nights, playing video games was HUGE in my house. My mom started playing Crash Bandicoot on PS1 in the ye olden days of 1996 so I grew up playing that and Spryo the Dragon mostly. So now when I have down time between other games I play or am super stressed, I’ll replay the hell out of those games. I was overjoyed when they did the trilogies of both games for PS4 so now I can play them whenever I want and it’s fantastic. My PS2 and all my games were stolen so for a long time I didn’t have the ability to play my favorite games, so when they were remastered for a system I owed it was the happiest day of my life. Also grew up on the Sly Cooper series that became an absolute obsession for me for a solid decade so when they remastered it for the PS3 I was in absolute heaven.
5. Writing fan fiction. So this is not something new for me, but it’s something I’ve rediscovered (thank you Baldur’s Gate 3). I wrote fan fiction yearsssss ago when I was in high school, so like…2011-2016 I think is when I stopped? Really I think I stopped in 2014 but according to the trusty fanfiction account I posted one thing in 2016? Anyway, not important. I stopped writing when I got into college because things because more hectic, I was busy, life was absolutely kicking my ass, and the fandom I wrote for was dying down so eventually I just lost the desire to write. But now that I’ve gotten settled as an adult and thanks to the glory that is BG3, I’ve regained the desire and want to write again and it’s honestly so, so nice. I can’t write as frequently as I did when I was in high school, but damn do I enjoy it. I’ve found it’s a way I can express myself in ways that I actually feel confident in what I do. I can’t draw to save my life, but I do feel that writing is where I can be creative and feel good about it. May not always be the best work, but I have fun doing it. I also love reading fan fiction. Reading how people take genres and reimagine them or completely twist it is always so fun so look into. Creativity for the win, my dudes.
Anyway, thank you again for asking me and I’m sorry it took so long to actually post this!

If anyone wants a recommendation for the Steam Summer sale, I'd recommend Alice Madness Returns. It's one of my favorite games of all time and it's a steal at $1.49. Alice is an interesting take on Alice in Wonderland with some really fun gameplay. Some other really good games I'd recommend are Omori (a really interesting rpg with a dark story), Persona 5 Royal, Cassette Beasts, these are all great games that I played in the first half of the year. Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the tomb raider are bothe excellent and fairly cheap (not a big fan of Shadow tbh). Crash Bandicoot Nsane trilogy still holds up as three of the best 3d platformers ever. The Ace Attorney trilogy is also on sale and among some of my favorite games. All of Dragon Age for under $10 and the Mass Effect trilogy remaster is under $10 as well. Some smaller recommendations: Spongebob battle for bikini bottom rehydrated, Ducktales remastered, and Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse is really fun/underrated

Why Crash Bandicoot 4 Matters | Sunday, 10.02.2022
Do you guys wanna know why Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time matters? Well, I've got five reasons: it's clever, boasts tons of challenge, the story provides a canon retcon to the original (and remastered) trilogy by serving as a direct sequel, we get to play as Crash, Coco, Tawna, Dingodile, and Dr. Neo Cortex, and let's not forget about the Quantum Masks supporting us along the way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the way, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is already out now on PC (via Battle.Net) and consoles (Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S)!

Bought some more games to play on my PS5.
Excited to play ‘Eden Ring’. If it’s anything like ‘The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim’, I’ll be well happy. Love that!
Somebody said it’s a cross between ‘Skyrim’ and ‘Dark Souls’. I know that ‘Demon’s Souls’ is meant to be very difficult to play, and that the same developers for that did ‘Elden Ring’ too but to be honest, I welcome the challenge all in exchange for the open-world exploration. I was going to get ‘Forspoken’ but the clerk said that it’s not a very good game. Shame. Looked like it to me. I’ll play the free demo and judge for myself. If I do end up liking it, I’ll buy it regardless what GAME sales says. I only go by my experience.
‘Ratchet And Clank’ is another one of those PS5 exclusive games that I really wanted to play. I’m a fan of animated style games like ‘Crash Bandicoot’ and ‘Spyro’ so I think this will be very enjoyable to play too. So far the game I’ve loved the most is ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered’ for the PlayStation 5. And I’m steadily making my way to 100% on ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ on the XBOX Series X. Once I’m done with that, I’ll restart it on PS5. If you guys can recommend any good open-world action-adventure RPGs exclusively for the PlayStation 5 or 4 - I’m all ears. Believe me when I tell you that if it’s not exclusive to the PS5 or 4, I’ll likely already have it on the XBOX.

A pitch idea on a game project I'm working on!
Tumblr media
Hi there, my name is SlackerArtist and I am the creator on an indie game I'm working on called "Doodle Madness: Shattered Memories"
So... what in the fresh hell even is Doodle Madness: Shattered Memories anyway? Well my fellow compadre let me tell you on what the game is (along with some art work too)
This image below for example is a mock up on what I would want to have as a character select screen by the way, giving it that arcade select screen feel to it!
Tumblr media
The game is essentially an upcoming 2D platformer filled with exploration, combat and most importantly... comedy, it takes heavy inspirations to the game's that were released in the 4th, 5th, 6th and even 8th generation of systems.
And with the inspirations, comes from the many different games that inspired it, and these games are:
Mickey Mania, Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow, Ducktales Remastered, Super Mario World, Shantae: Half Genie Hero, Wario Land 4, Sonic Mania, the UbiArt Rayman games, Go! Go! Kokopolo, the LittleBigPlanet series, Crash Bandicoot 4, Rabbids Go Home, Psychonauts 2, Persona 4 Golden, Miitopia, Runner3, Hextech Mayhem, Mad Rat Dead, Devil May Cry, Sunset Overdrive and the Disney Infinity series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea on the game's story is that everyone's memories are planned to be taken away from a so called "King of the Space Pirates" named Lord Commander Xander so he can use it to power a machine to rule on not only the world... but the entire universe, so to save everything at all costs, a ragtag group of individuals lead by Johnathan McCamperbelt must journey from their home country, The Grasslands and beyond to fully stop him once and for all!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do plan on adding in stuff into the game, like exploring over 15 locations that includes a hub area, playing as over a total of 15 characters, a dedicated combat system with a move list for the characters to attack either the enemies or the player for that cartoony slapstick feel to it, 22 weapons to use in combat, different transformations, each with their own positive and negative effect, an RPG levelling system where the characters can level up and can unlock new moves in their own unique skill tree,
While that it is mainly going to be a comedy focused game, the game will get quite emotional in certain scenes that I won't tell you just yet, but you will see soon enough.
I do have stuff planned for the game after it's release like doing content updates, like adding in the different game modes such as a gender swap mode similarly to how it worked with Shovel Knight but with a dating sim mechanic and a battle arena mode that would be a fighting game, modding support via using Steam Workshop support, adding more characters, more color skins, a level editor, the introduction of both costume skins and gadgets and lastly... brand new story content titled "Doodle Madness: Side-Stories"
I have been creating and gathering ideas Doodle Madness: Shattered Memories for about 4+ years and it is becoming one of the most ambitious projects I'm ever creating and that will take years to get it done, it was originally going to be an RPG using RPGMaker MV, but then decided to turn it into a 2D platformer instead using Gamemaker Studio 2!

The Last of Us Part 1 is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game was originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013, and was later remastered for the PlayStation 4 in 2014. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by a fungus-based infection that has turned most of humanity into aggressive, zombie-like creatures.
The game follows the story of Joel, a hardened survivor, who is tasked with escorting a young girl named Ellie across the country in order to find a group of resistance fighters known as the Fireflies. Along the way, the pair must navigate through a dangerous and hostile world, fighting off infected creatures and hostile human factions.
One of the things that sets The Last of Us apart from other post-apocalyptic games is its strong emphasis on storytelling and character development. The relationship between Joel and Ellie is a major focus of the game, and their interactions and conversations are some of the most emotionally powerful moments in the game. The game also features a strong performance by Troy Baker as Joel and Ashley Johnson as Ellie, which brings the characters to life in a way that few games are able to achieve.
The gameplay in The Last of Us is a mix of stealth and action. Players can choose to go in guns blazing or take a more stealthy approach, and the game rewards players for being smart and strategic. The game's combat system is also quite good, with a variety of weapons and tools at the player's disposal. The game's AI is also noteworthy, with enemies behaving in a believable and challenging way.
The game's visuals are also fantastic, with detailed character models and detailed environments. The game's use of lighting is particularly impressive, and the game's moody and atmospheric score adds to the game's overall atmosphere.
Overall, The Last of Us Part 1 is a masterpiece of storytelling and game design. The game's combination of strong characters, compelling story, and solid gameplay make it a must-play for fans of the action-adventure genre. Naughty Dog, the developer of the game, is well known for its critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted series, Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter series. They are known for their attention to detail, storytelling and character development which was reflected in The Last of Us Part 1 as well. Sony Computer Entertainment is the publisher of the game and it's one of the biggest publisher in the gaming industry with a wide variety of franchises in its portfolio.

I finally fixed Retroarch on my PC, don't know what broke it, I suspect it happened when I moved all my files from one hard drive to another, but after updating all the cores, it works again.
Now, I prefer playing on real hardware on a CRT but that's not feasible for some consoles right now. Namely Playstation, because emulating PSX on the Wii is ass.
Mostly I want to play Digimon World again, it's almost Odaiba Day and i've been watching the anime again. But also started playing Crash Bandicoot. Am I crazy for preferring the PS1 graphics over the remasters?
