Pride proceeds the fall… yeah Dragon and Crocodile are good dads. But maaaybe a little unprepared when they have a super secure non-ambitious kid. Dragon made damned sure his kids (once he is actually the one doing the parenting) know they don’t need to impress him. And Crocodile, with his pride and maybe IRONICALLY a bit more eager than Dragon to decide that some of his earlier struggles were material circumstances/other people (he did nothing wrong in transitioning it was everyone else’s problem, etc.) is eager to use his own wealth and connections to set his kids up for success, and to take them *seriously*.

The kid likes chess? Baba will get whatever paperwork done to get that kid in the junior leagues. None of HIS kids will be unrecognized for ANYTHING they can do, won’t be passed over in ANY judgement. Not the dad pressuring the kid to be a scholarship professional athlete, the dad who makes sure his kids are always on the team or in the league that gets looked at for professional development opportunities. If his little girl is doing engineer-level math he is making SURE she is getting that recognition and education.

…which eventually leads them to having at least one adult child who is perfectly content with everything they’ve already accomplished and don’t particularly see a need to improve or seek out *new* accomplishments. They were X champion 3 years in a row, and Y champion 2 times and won 4 awards in Z. Thats enough for them. Theyre as good at X, Y, and Z as theyre really interested in working to be. Retiring at 20 sounds pretty good to them.

Crocodile and Dragon are at an absolute loss. Totally blindsided. Their kid has their whole life ahead of them and they’ve declared their intention to do NOTHING.

What you suggest sounds like it could happen in a modern AU setting though I suppose some of the things might exist in a canon compliant world as well.

I do like to imagine that Crocodile is trying to make sure that his kids have the best cards in life for whatever they want to achieve. He'll get them to school, he'll react to every interest a kid exhibits (if Luffy said "I want to play the violin" you can bet he'd get the best violin on the market and the best tutor shipped in to Goa only for the violin to end up in a dusty corner because Luffy wants to dig around in the garden instead). And if the kids want to set out to sea he'd offer to buy a ship, hire a crew, bribe whoever marine to look the other way, etc. *lol*

Not that Luffy would accept something like that...

you know what? No, I'm not going to put it under a cut.

I made a map!

(I drew the basic idea and then @mamaalpha made it absolutely stunningly beautiful and now I have an AWESOME MAP \o/ )

In the Dragon's Clause there are five six continents. Each continent has an Empire, kingdoms, and Wilds.

Each Empire is headed by one of the Elders from One Piece (Nusjiro in this case). The Empire offers protections to the Kingdoms that pay homage (celestial tribute) back to the Empire. This "protection" makes the other kingdoms play nice - you can't just go declaring war on a kingdom protected by the Empire, even if you are also protected by them.

The Wilds are areas of land (northern and southern borders on this continent, but it's different on each one) that are untamed/overrun areas full of magical beasts and monsters and outlaws, etc. Border kingdoms have elite guards who protect their borders and harvest the goods from the monster they slay. Alongside agriculture, metals, gems, and other trade goods, these hides, hearts, bones, etc. add to a kingdom's wealth and economic capacity.

For Example: Lulusia is a relatively small kingdom, but the lands are rich in minerals and their northern border is one of the most lucrative.

Tidbits about each Kingdom because I can:

Lulusia: The reader's kingdom of origin. Her father was the king's younger brother. He was an exceptional border guard until he passed away. The reader - a princess by the thinnest of lines - is sent off to the Goa kingdom to be married to their crown prince in place of her cousin (the king's actual daughter).

Goa: Crown Prince Sterry... >.> Sabo is the Grand Duke here.

Dawn: Ace is effectively the ruler. He's adopted (by Garp the current king), but Luffy refused to be crown prince so hard, him and Garp nearly leveled the castle fighting over it.) Having the largest northern border, Dawn is renown for its border guard. Their economy is almost entire monster trade.

Germa: Just wrapped up civil war. Sanji came out on top. \o/ The central Academy for all surrounding kingdoms exists here. Sabo, Luffy, Ace, Sanji and Vivi went to school together. Marco's the headmaster, currently.

Alabasta: Recently became a Queendom as Vivi ascended the throne.

The Queendom Kingdom: Darling you know who runs this island and you can be sure he doesn't pay tribute. But The King Queen Bon-chan does have a lot of really good treaties in place with Dawn and Alabasta.

Wano: Doesn't pay tribute. Not much is known. Rumors of internal strife.

FINALLY - how devil fruits ✨magic✨ works:

Weapon auras are a thing (Armament Haki, effectively)

Observation Haki is a thing but most people consider it like magical awareness, because the concept of haki isn't really understood that way.

Basic magic is “fairly” common, in that most soldiers can light campfires with it, don and doff armor, and protect themselves against some elements (making time in the desert easier, for example.) Some commoners will have solid enough control of it to make living a little easier, but basic magic does little more than cantrip levels worth of magic.

It makes life easier, but you can't really fight/defend with it.

Advanced magic is more destructive/useful - traveling magic, fireball, etc. This is considerably more rare and requires lots of education and practice. Natural talent doesn’t hurt either.

Commoners won't know this level of magic with a few exceptions. Most get conscripted into service if found out.

Advance magic leaves markers that can be detected by other magic users. These traces of "magic was used here" fade over time, but can linger up to weeks if you're not careful.

Specialized magic is person to person, and is either something you see in Grand Mages and Top Tier Knights or the most dangerous of magical beasts. Often times it might not even seem like magic, but the use is tailored to the person who has it so completely, that specializations are rarely duplicated.

Notable exception: Ace and Sabo are both considered to be fire specialists

Luffy has his rubber body and all it's uses - no one is really sure what to call his specialization.

Effectively devil fruit abilities have been translated as Specialized Magic in this AU.

Getting into Gao Ling is the easy part. Finding the Earth Rumble and the giggling girl is oh so very hard.

In the end, they find Earth Rumble 6 by asking (Threatening, really) a pair of annoying boys from the local Earthbending school.

Katara didn't quite see the appeal in watching over grown man children throw rocks at each other, but Sokka seemed into it, and her brother could use the reprieve. Zuko sighed, slouching next to her.

"Not your thing?" She asked.

"I'd rather be watching the Ember Island Players butcher Love Amongst the Dragons."

She snorted. She'd gone with them once, to Ember Island, a month after Lady Ilah passed. Ozai hadn't gone, and Azula had kept vanishing with Mai and Ty Lee, but Ursa had made sure she and Zuko came with her to see the Ember Island Players. She had loved the theater, not quite like her mother and father acting out folktales, but close enough. They had only gone the once, but it had been enough. For a moment, she had felt the comfort of something familiar, and that had been enough.

"You hated them," she said, smiling a bit. "You said they were... What was it? A disappointment to all of acting and fine arts?"

"They were! Are! They have no regard for the real message of the plays they do, no heart or soul, and-" He caught her growing grin, and blushed. Seemingly embarrassed, he slouched more in his seat. "I just don't like how they do things."

"You're passionate about the arts," Katara hummed. "Thats not a bad thing."

"Wait," Aang gasps, drawing her attention. "I think... I think that's her. The girl I saw in the swamp!"

Katara turned, blinking in surprise as she found a little girl in the ring. Her eyes were milky white, and didn't shift to follow sound. She couldn't be much older than ten.

"You're sure?" she asked, frowning.

"I'm positive."

Nodding, Katara focused on this fight. She wasn't all that familiar with earthbending forms, for obvious reasons, but she picked up on a few things. This Blind Bandit girl didn't move until her opponent did. The girl waited, listened, until her opponent moved. It was only then that she strikes, using her opponents movement and attacks against them.

When the girl won, so easily, the announcer called for challengers. Before she could stop him, Aang was up and jumping down into the ring. Sokka boos him, but Katara is a little more focused on this Blind Bandit. Each time Aang is launched into the air, the girl seems confused. It isn't until Aang touches the ground again that she goes for another attack.

"She's really blind," Katara mused, frowning.

"Really?" Zuko leans forward with her, equally intrigued. "How can you tell?"

"She's only reacting to Aang when he's on the ground, or when he talks. I think she's using her bending to sort of see where people are... Remember that meditation exorcise? Where you sit and breath, and feel your element around you? I was able to feel water that Pakku sent at me in the North. I think this Blind Bandit is doing something similar, but on a larger scale."

Zuko watched the fight carefully, as Aang knocked the girl out of the ring. She had been so confident before, but now...

Aang is named champion, and Sokka is all over that belt. Meanwhile, Katara and Zuko talk with Aang.

"You're sure that's here?" Katara asked. "She's the girl from the swamp?"

"I'm sure," Aang said, more certain than Katara had ever heard him. "She was in fancy clothes in my vision though."

"Then we should check the Beifong estate," Zuko said. When Katara looked at him in confusion, he added. "His vision had a flying boar. That's the symbol of the Beifong family. They practically own Goa Ling. They bought most of the snow crab supply when I was doing trade for the tribe. I don't remember them having any children though."

"The flying boar is good enough for me," Aang said. "Let's check it out!"

And, of course, their stealthy peeking isn't stealthy enough to fool someone that can see anything touching the ground. The Blind Bandit, dressed in formal clothes, glowers.

"What are you doing here, Twinkle Toes?!"

"How did you know it was me?"

"She see's through the earth," Katara said, pushing herself up. "With her bending."

Immediately, the girls eyes are on her, voice low and tense. "How did you know that?"

"I can do something similar with my waterbending."

"That still doesn't explain how you found me. Or why you're here."

Katara wasn't sure what possessed Aang to start by talking about the swamp, but she quickly cut in.

"What he means is, he's the Avatar, and we think you're meant to be his Earthbending master."

"I really don't care," the girl said, turning to walk away. "Now leave. Before I call the guards."

"Hey," Sokka cut in, at the worst possible time. "We all need to do our part to end this war, and yours is-"

"Guards!" the girl called, making her voice high and fearful. "Guards!"

Katara smacked her brother as they scrambled to flee back over the wall. As they pressed themselves back against the wall, Katara heard the guards leading the girl away.

"You know your father doesn't want you wandering the grounds without supervision, Toph."

"Oh," Katara breathed, her chest feeling tight. "Oh..."

"What?" Aang asked, but Zuko was staring at her.

She swallowed. "She's a prisoner here. Just like I was, back in the Fire Nation."

I have a lot on Darry being born normal size and growing to be fully gryphon sized because this boy grows FAST and he’s thirteen and too big for the house and he’s STILL growing-at first he hates it because how is he supposed to go to school like this? How is he supposed to keep playing football?!” but eventually he grows to liking it and sometimes he’ll sneak Paul the feather of a size manipulator so they can hang out and Darry doesn’t have to be like towering over him when they just wanna hang out 😭🙏 When they break off their friendship Darry makes him give it back but he kinda misses when they’d goa round just goofing off.

Enjoy these headcanons~

So in this AU, Mihawk left Yara in Windmill Village because it was somewhere Shanks recommended would be safe enough for her. He gives her to a foster family to raise while he's away, but he doesn't cut off all contact with her like he does in Yara's canon story. Therefore, Yara has a happier upbringing than she does normally, with foster parents who love her, but she still resents Mihawk for his extremely minimal parenting. Whenever he comes back to visit, he teaches her some swordplay (but to be honest, she probably learned more from Shanks than she did Mihawk and has a much greater respect for him than her own father).

Luffy befriends Yara first, since they're both kids in Windmill Village. Although she's quite quiet and spends most of her time in the local library, Luffy does insist on playing with her and will drag her out to go play by the ocean or show her cool bugs or stuff that he has found.

Yara has heard about Ace at this point, since he has gotten himself into trouble on more than one occasion, and she knows of him as this weird, angry kid who keeps asking about Gold Roger and beating up local thugs, but they don't meet face-to-face until later.

Once Luffy is sent to live with the Dadan family, he insists on introducing Yara to Ace and Sabo. Sabo and Yara hit it off instantly, but Ace acts like he wants nothing to do with her because she's a girl and will only slow them down.

(I can imagine Ace and Yara having a Calvin and Susie from Calvin and Hobbes-like relationship lol upon re-watching the postwar arc, I noticed young Ace doesn't have a very high opinion of girls XD)

Ace doesn't want her to accompany them in their adventures and tries to 'no girls allowed' their treehouse, but Luffy and Sabo overrule him on multiple occasions.

Yara honestly isn't terribly fond of Ace, either. She thinks he's a rude, belligerent little brat, and the two get into disagreements often. (If you had asked Yara back then which of the brothers she would one day end up married to, she probably would've said Sabo lol Ace would've been an unfathomable option)

Tensions between the two reach the point where Yara ends up smacking Ace hard enough to draw blood, at which Ace develops a begrudging kind of respect for her and allows her to accompany them into the woods more often. (She also learns his secret at the same time Luffy does, but rather than use it to provoke Ace, she just assures him that she doesn't mind who his father is).

Running around in the woods with the boys does help her hone her swordplay skills. She even engages in some shenanigans in the Goa Kingdom, stealing items and dining and dashing and the like, but at some point, her foster parents find out and she gets grounded with a warning that she is not to see them again.

Despite this, she still manages to sneak out and gets caught up in the Grey Terminal incident, barely making it out with Luffy and the mountain bandits alive.

She is absolutely devastated by Sabo's death, which kickstarts her hatred of the World Government and the Celestial Dragons.

Mihawk hears about all the trouble Yara has been getting in with these boys and decides (alongside her foster parents) to send her away to finishing school, where she will get a good education and learn how to behave like a proper lady. So Luffy and Ace end up having to say goodbye to her, too. (Or, rather, they hear that she was sent away without being allowed to say goodbye to them).

A few years later, Yara finally returns to Windmill Village and meets Ace and Luffy again. Luffy is excited to show her all the new moves he's been working on, whereas Ace, in the full throes of puberty, is immediately smitten. He has certainly grown up a lot, and with some help from Makino, is hardly the rude little brat Yara used to know.

Cue a childhood friends-to-lovers arc full of awkward teenage romance and a desire to make up for lost time that results in them sneaking out together every single night, though it still takes awhile for them to come to terms with their blossoming feelings for each other.

They're sitting on a cliff overlooking the sea when Ace (16) finally works up the nerve to ask Yara (15) if he can kiss her. (She says yes). He also tells her of his plans to go out to sea on his birthday and asks her to come with him, which she accepts.

When Ace sets sail at 17, he takes Yara with him and she becomes the first member of the Spade Pirates. With Yara’s competence as a navigator, they avoid being shipwrecked on Sixis Island, instead stopping there to refill some supplies. That’s where they meet Deuce and where Ace, who wants to explore a bit, comes across the Mera Mera no Mi. The three of them decide to build a better boat than the one Ace and Yara currently have that Ace can power with his newfound abilities. Things proceed as normal from there.

Pio Gama Pinto (March 31, 1927 – February 24, 1965) was a Kenyan journalist, politician and freedom fighter. He was a socialist leader who dedicated his life to the liberation of the Kenyan people and became Kenya’s first martyr in 1965.

He was born in Nairobi to a Kenyan Asian family of Konkani Goan Catholic descent. His father was an official in the colonial government of Kenya while his mother was a housewife. At age eight, he was sent to India for his education and spent the next nine years there, passing his matriculation exams at St. Joseph’s High School, Arpora, and studying science at Karnatak College, Dharwar for two years before joining the Indian Air Force in 1944 as an apprentice ground engineer. He took up a job in the Posts and Telegraph office in Bombay, participated in a general strike, and became a founding member of the Goa National Congress. He started an agitation in Bombay against the Portuguese colonial occupation of Goa. His political activism soon made it necessary for him to return to Kenya to avoid being arrested and deported to the Tarrafal concentration camp in Cape Verde.

He became involved in local politics aimed at overthrowing British colonial rule in Kenya. He turned to journalism and worked with the Colonial Times and the Daily Chronicle. In 1954, five months after his marriage to Emma Dias, he was rounded up in the notorious Operation Anvil and spent the next four years in detention on Manda Island. He was kept in confinement from early 1958 until October 1959 at Kabarnet.

In 1960 he founded the Kenya African National Union newspaper Sauti Ya KANU, and later, Pan African Press, of which he subsequently became Director and Secretary. Pinto played an active role in campaigning for KANU during the 1961 elections which it won. In 1963 he was elected a Member of the Central Legislative Assembly and in July 1964 was appointed a Specially Elected Member of the House of Representatives. If He Was Your Fan (A Henry Cavill Fan Fic), Chapter 73: Long Lost & Found

Your watch vibrates. Time to get up. Your phone plays Goa, and you open your eyes. You sit up and sigh.

“You comin’ today?”  you hear John’s voice call from downstairs.

“I’ll bike over later,” you call back.

“Okay.”

You look out of the window and see the garden below. It’s pretty bare due to the time of year, but it’s still nice to look out. Your vision turns inward as you remember how you got here.

You were dehydrated from crying. Luc stood by you and nuzzled you as you did. You stared out into the night, looking at the moon through the trees. Luc nuzzles you as you just go blank, looking up at the sky. You don’t even know how long you’ve been here, but you took one of Luc’s blankets to keep warm. He still had a thicker blanket and saddle on him.

Suddenly you see a flickering light. You realize it’s a flashlight and freeze, not sure what to do…until you hear John calling you over and over. You sigh, realizing he’s come looking for you, and he sounds worried.

You feel a tinge of guilt and call out. “Here!”

He comes and sits next to you. “I’m not going to ask if you are okay. I know you’re not.”

“I just feel like it’s all falling apart, John.”

“You don’t want to go home, do you?”

You shake your head, still unable to look at him.

“Well, you can stay at my place,” he offers. “I got a cottage not far from here and it’s on my parent’s property. My grandparents used to live there, but they are gone now so it’s mine. It’s nice, and you can go home whenever you’re ready—”

You look at him, and hug him tight. He hugs you back. “Thank you. I’ll pay you for staying, I’ll cook and clean, whatever.”

“Let’s just get out of here, yeah?” He looks around. “This place gives me the creeps.”

“It’s riddled with ghosts, I think,” you joke, but you really believe it.

“So why’d you come out here?” he asks, rising to his feet and offering his hand.

“Sanctuary.”

When you returned, you see Finn’s car still there.

“Thank God,” Finn smiles with relief. “Is your phone off?”

“Yes, I turned it off.”

He takes a deep breath. “If you like, I can take you home.”

“I’m not going home, thank you,” you tell him. “I am staying at a friend’s.”

“I can take you—”

“No, I’ve got it,” John nods. “I don’t mind.”

That was three days ago.

Churi brought Luna to you, food and all…even picked up a small pan and litter for her. The second she gives you your cat, she hugs you.

“Tell me everything,” she says softly.

“I knew you’d ask,” you nod, and gesture to the kettle boiling.

“I did what you said,” Churi says as you sit down in the kitchen.

“I never thought a stable boy would live—”

“His grandparents’ old home. His parents are in the bigger house.”

“Ah.”

“Did you know he is studying to be a vet?” you inform proudly. “He’s attending the Royal Veterinary College just fifteen minutes up the road. He gets up and works at Trent, goes to school and then goes back to Trent.”

“Wow, he’s really driven.”

“Can you imagine studying all day and working around potential patients for the rest of it—”

Churi puts her hand on yours. “Hey.”

“What?”

“Are you okay?” she asks you.

“I just…needed to breathe,” you admit. “Going back to the apartment felt like something I couldn’t handle. I mean…he put my desk together, we made love everywhere, I just—he was the first tea I ever hosted, Chiru!”

“Any idea when you’ll be back in Brixton or the city?”

“Soon,” you nod. “He should have left on the junket by now.”

“I think he left today,” she exhales. “He’s been looking for you, calling us.”

“You told him I was alright—”

“Yes, and he was grateful for the emojis you sent-the prayer sign, the plane,” she pauses. “He went to your apartment, you know.”

“I thought he might.”

“Which is why you didn’t go home?” Chiru’s eyebrows raised, and she shook her head at you. “Mitra, you must go home. You can’t stay here forever, can you?”

You sigh. She is right, but you just don’t want to hear it right now.

“Stella is giving me food to bring to you and John, by the way, and she says she’ll call you tonight. Sophie says she’ll come by the stables, too.”

“Good, I’d like to have tea here with you all before I go,” you say. “It’s very peaceful here and Trent isn’t far away. We could make a day of it…or at least a nice ride and tea before John comes home.”

Days go by, and finally you have to go home…well, at least to the recreation centre in Brixton. You told people there never to tell when you’re coming before you started volunteering and if anyone called and asked, to give false dates and let you know. You set that up the second you started volunteering.

Much to your relief, no one was there. For days you were afraid if you left Ferny Hill, you’d be the subject of paparazzi. But, no, no one was there. Then, suddenly:

“Why?” you ask under your breath.

“Because my sis works at Hyde Park and saw something…interesting,” she chuckles. “you are going to be my big break.”

“You want to be a photographer, then?”

“A photo journalist, yes.”

You shake your head. “This may not be the way.” You frown at her. “If you like I can ask if you can look at the programs I work on,” you say with a shrug. “I work with children here, and at a couple of orphanages? That’s more interesting—well, the children are.”

She stands for a moment, and you see her face as she lowers her camera. “You want me to come with you?”

“This is the story, uh—”

“Dana.”

“Dana,” you reply. “You got a boyfriend? Girlfriend? Lover?”

She frowns.

“Ah, so you understand why I am not answering those questions,” you say. “No matter what you think, it’s still private. But this? It’s still good information, and a story can be written about it.”

You get the centre director’s permission to take pictures of certain places inside, and with a signed agreement, she could take the pictures as long as the children’s faces were not depicted for public consumption and the centre got altered and unaltered copies.

All in all, it was a nice afternoon, three hours total. You say your thanks and goodbyes, and head for the train station…

But then you notice it: four men get out of a dark car and start following you.

You see them. It’s so obvious.  You switch streets, and they are not far behind. They split and inner alarms go off. If you go into a building they plan on covering the back.

Why? Why is this happening?

You draw a shaky breath. Henry is out of the country. You don’t care what is going on, and you want him here, but that’s nonsense. You duck into call Finn on your cell phone.

“Hey, love—”

“Finn—”

“What’s wrong?”

“Finn, I—I’m being followed.”

“Followed? By whom?”

“I don’t know—”

He chuckles lightly. “Are you sure--?”

“Yes!” you lower your voice as you duck into Argos Brixton. The department store is a decent size, and if you can just duck here or there you might be able to get out.  “I’m coming to Trent, alright? Something is up.”

You buy a white fleece hoodie, black jacket and large gray backpack. You make the switch in housewares, putting your coat and bag in the large one and donning your new outerwear. You run to the bathroom to use the soap then to the bath area and find some samples to change the smell and look of the coat. You change your boots for gym sneakers you brought with you. You are a mixture of bathroom soap and bubble gum. You pull out your phone and hold it, pretend to text. Since you aren’t very tall, you could be mistaken for a teen.

To your relief, you find some teens from the center, and you mix in. Some say hello, having seen you and you smile. They keep talking and you follow as one of the pack. Luckily they are headed in the direction of the tube. You wave goodbye as if you know them all, some even waving back, and get on.

You are trying not to shake and you are trying not to look weird. You get off a few stops before you are supposed to, and take a bus to Trent. You walk in, and start running as soon as you pass through the gate. “Finn!” You race inside the stables. “F—”

You freeze. The very men you evaded are standing there!

“They got here just before you did,” Finn explains.

You are about to run when you hear a gun click. Your hands go up.

“Bloody hell, Wilson! That’s not necessary.”

“Tired of running after her, Graham,” a deep voice grounds out. “Stop where you are.”

You turn to them.

“Lower your hands, madam, you are not under arrest—”

“Why are you here?!” you snap. “Why are you following me?”

“May we use your office?” the less aggressive one asks.

“Yes, of course,” Finn looks utterly intimidated and you feel unsafe.

You all file into Finn’s office, but the door is closed on Finn.

“I am Graham, and my trigger-happy partner here is Wilson.”

Wilson nods, and puts his hands behind his back, standing at attention.

You shake your head. “I don’t know why you’re here—”

“I know.” Graham says gently.
