Teruhashi and Saiki protecting each other from their brothers.

We've seen a bit of Saiki doing it to Kokomi so in a (platonic or romantic sense) terusai way it would go a bit like

Kokomi: Ah, Saiki! Let's go to this one restaurant!

Saiki: Fine. But only cause they have limited edition coffee jell- Oh no.

Kokomi: Of course, I'll pay, but is something wrong, Saiki?

Makoto, within Saiki's hearing but not Kokomi's: Where is my sister?! I tracked her location here, but I can't find her

Saiki, frantically shoving a hoodie over Kokomi before walking quickly away: Yes, hurry. If we pass through the ally then maybe...

Kokomi: Hey, does that voice in the distance sound familiar? It sounds weirdly close.

Saiki, taking Kokomi's hand and just booking it: Come on, come on, come on, I'll hotwire a car, we just need to get you the fuck out of here

Which, if you noticed, is very similar to canon situations that have happened in the anime regarding Makoto. In a Terusai situation, which is to say Saiki acknowledging a positive relationship between them and not sabotaging it, he'd be a bit more worried. Saiki is a worrywart at heart, and he knows what it's like to have to flee from your older brother.

He would do everything in his power to make sure that man stays as far away from her as possible. Maybe that involves using his powers to send him to a bog in England, maybe that involves stealing a car and riding away (at dangerously high speeds) into the sunset (and maybe a shopping mall) with Kokomi (who is screaming in fear)

Speaking of Saiki's fuck up of a brother, Kokomi would not hesitate before protecting Kusuo from Kuusuke. It'd be decently similar to a canon interaction that exists due to Kokomi having a very different set of strengths than Kusuo

Like, in her introduction Saiki basically says “She’s not wrong to view herself that way because she’s objectively correct”, and it’s like it just flew over these people’s heads! I just can’t understand how people can view her as a terrible, arrogant, selfish person when it’s shown time and time again how she goes above and beyond to live up to other people’s (and her own) expectations of her as the perfect pretty girl.

Did they not watch the episode where it’s shown she memorises the names of literally every person who attends the school because she knows it would make their day if she remembered their name and ruin it if she didn’t? To the point she actually collapses from exhaustion because she stayed up all night memorizing everything??? And, again, she’s not being arrogant thinking that! She’s right!!!

Defending teruhashi is like a full time job holy shit my bae don’t deserve this.. Arguing with teruhashi haters/ hardcore aroace saiki truthers just goes to show how much saiki k fans don’t understand the anime at all, and how they haven’t watched pass season 1. Claiming that TORITSUKA is Aiura's soulmate is just straight up stupid. Are his initials S.K. as well??

I feel like most of the hate against Aiura is due to things that end in -ism plus the usual slut-shaming. How dare she acknowledge her own sexual attraction instead of buttoning it up forever in an attempt to be a chaste perfect image of femininity?

Actually I've seen so many claims that not liking Teruhashi is indicative of misogyny when she's like. Trying to be the Japanese version of a tradwife. Like that's her entire goal in life, she has no aspirations beyond this except according to all the alternate universes, if she doesn't get her perfect tradwife happy ending she immediately starts a cult. ?????

She's a good character and her personality is reasonable, as in, anyone raised in a filthy rich celebrity household and chased by men of all ages since birth and who never had a real friend for their first 17 years of life would probably be like that.

But she is not exactly a paragon of feminism or a character that defies the patriarchy, and to claim otherwise is ridiculous. Her "girlbossing" is spending her entire life performing for the male gaze and occasionally manipulating men with her beauty to perform small favors, which is exactly the role of beautiful women in the patriarchy.

Like, there's plenty of room for her to grow out of this and break the hold of comphet and the male gaze but this never happens in canon, and for whatever reason (🙄) 99.9% of her fans never think about or explore this at all, from what I've seen.

Teruhashi is also unfortunately not that funny on her own, so Asou had to introduce Makoto, the Kokomins, Saiko, Rifuta, and the Newspaper Club to try to keep her relevant and avoid repetition, and even then there was a repetitive terusai episode in which literally nothing happens (milkshake stealing). Her problem is that as wild as her thoughts are, she has to act normal on the outside, which limits a lot of the comedy you can do with her.

Meanwhile Aiura is wildly funny all the time and immediately establishes fun dynamics with everyone she meets, but she's a slut and that's wrong-bad for ???? reasons plus a lot of people already invested themselves in terusai so they automatically hate her for existing and have to pretend the canon soulmate bond is "platonic" or just ignore it altogether.

i’ve come to realize that unless i’m reading a terusai fic their relationship will often be very inaccurate, and not because i ship them, but because people who don’t ship them usually make him hate/dislike her or find her very annoying and make her some crazy stalker whose only goal in life is to make him say ‘oh wow’

it’s like everyone just forgets that platonic male/female friendships exist and that they can be just friends without some secret hatred or obsession with the other

i will always be a terusaier but sometimes i like to consume some content of other ships or even platonic relationships without their relationship being extremely misunderstood okay

Analyzing the versions of Terusai

How well it fits within canon and with the characters general personalities

Explanations:

Kokomi and Kusuo: Theyre already close friends and Kokomi has been shown to have a crush on him, when his powers went away, he stared at her and did say that her face would be considered pretty. Also the combination of gorgeous and psychic would be unstoppable.

It would also help both of them out, both of them get considered more than human, by their family especially. Kusuo already considers Kokomi to be a regular girl which is part of why she likes him so much, platonically or romantically. I think that opinion would do wonders for her, she would be allowed to have a break and wouldn't have to keep up her performance around him. And for Kusuo, Kokomi doesn't know him extremely well as shown by her fantasy version of him. However, she could get to know him better as time progresses. Even if she does learn about his powers, she would be shocked at first obviously, however she would grow to accept it, and given how shes been treated and how she is favoured by God, and her ability to guess people thoughts on her with extreme precision (see: average boy from the 3 legged race) her experiences border on psychic, this would allow her to be able to see Kusuo more as a regular boy than most people who know do, an example being Kuusuke.

It would also most likely help with their familial issues given the similarities. Both their older brothers have their issues, albeit different degrees, this would allow them to understand each other's problems and therefore let each other work through it.

Makoto and Kusuo: Who doesn't like enemies to lovers? They hate each other but they keep interacting, one time Makoto even halfway hugged him, strange behaviour to a guy you hate, not to mention how many times Makoto has randomly showed up at Kusuo's house unannounced. Also, Makoto is shown to be very jealous of Kusuo due to his friendship with Kokomi, a good twist on this would be that he's jealous of Kokomi but can't handle those feelings so he copes in the strangest manner. This would improve Makoto's character and the fanbases opinion on him. He is definitely the most hated Saiki K character, why? Because of his blatant obsession with his own sister, if you remove that, you can focus on his better qualities more. He's a funny and interesting character with a great design but that gets overshadowed by the sister thing.

Aside from that idea, it still works even if you keep the sister issue. Learning to love someone else would be good for him. His obsession hurts him and especially Kokomi, so being separated from her would give both her time to heal and him time to learn to love someone else, and allow the siblings to develop a healthy sibling bond.

Kokomi and Kuusuke: I believe it would be toxic as hell. Kuusuke has been shown to be actively hostile towards her (and most people) and given how much of her pride he shattered, she probably holds a deep grudge against him. I think if they were to date they would act nice to each other around people but it would be very strained and fake, but they would end up trying to best each other constantly, Kuusuke because he dislikes her, and Kokomi because she dislikes him and to regain her damaged pride. They would be like the couples who actively despise each other but Kuusuke and Kokomi would not tell people that.

However, in the scenario of a healthy relationship, It could benefit them in some ways. As I said with Kusuo, Kuusuke doesn't consider Kokomi anything more than a regular girl, (he actually believes that she's less than that, or more accurately, all humans are, except Kusuo and he likely places himself between the two categories.) Since he doesn't consider her godlike, she could be free to be herself, and be somewhat free from that pressure. On top of that, Kuusuke figured out her entire characters based on about 20 minutes with her, so there wouldn't even be a point of being a perfect pretty girl since he already knows who she is. I would say it would help him get over his competitiveness against Kusuo, however, I doubt he thinks highly of anyone else's opinion so Kokomi's input would have no effect on his behaviour. However, seeing the Cambridge scenes, he seems extremely lonely, so companionship, romantic or not, would benefit him.

Makoto and Kuusuke: Honestly, there's no telling how they would react to each other, they have no dynamic to go off of. However, everything I said about Makoto and how Kusuo would improve him, goes for Kuusuke as well so it would impact Makoto at least, and with Kuusuke, as with Kokomi, it would help dwindle his loneliness. Also, they have a lot of comedic potential, they are both very eccentric and strange men, being around each other's influence would probably amplify those traits. Imagining the amount of disapproval Kusuo and Kokomi would have about it is great on it's own. Overall, they are up to interpretation, they can be whatever the viewer wants them to be, and that in of itself is wonderful potential.

My personal opinions on them

What does "Positive but neutral" mean? It means I like the ship but I do not indulge in actively shipping it. Other than that, I post about Makoto and Kuusuke everyday without fail, I love Kokomi and Kusuo's friendship and see them more as best friends rather than lovers, and I am not very fond of Kuusuke and Kokomi (as a ship, as characters I adore them)

Overall, I respect all ships and the people who ship them.

What does Kokomi do at Spirits and Such?

When she was first hired, she was a receptionist! She would talk to people at the door, and answer calls! But after Reigen saw a middle-aged dude openly thirst after her and spent the entire consultation openly staring at her with heart eyes, she became the social media manager and could also answer calls if she wanted!

(Kokomi does not fully understand why she was suddenly not a receptionist anymore and why Reigen asked her if she was 'okay' afterwards) (She assumes he just thinks she's too delicate to talk to strangers at the door) (She is wrong)

2. If Saiki finds out Kokomi works at s&s, how does it happen?

Oh, he finds out. It takes a while but Saiki 'Stalker' Kusuo hears her thinking about her job one day and immediately is like, when the fuck did she do that??? And does 'his best' to ignore it (Which is to say, he does nothing for the day before immediately stalking her using his psychic powers the next. You know. like a normal person)

He's so on edge when he first sees Reigen and is fully prepared to mentally set him on fire if he even thinks anything bad about Teruhashi but he's just.

like a normal dude. He's clearly fond of her, but it's more in a way that borders on parental than anything else. (Well, not really bordering since she lives with him half the time, but Saiki does not know that)

He tries to stalk her the next day but runs into Mob, who he quietly uses to just ensure that Teruhashi is completely fine and happy there (because it'd be troublesome if she wasn't) (he totally doesn't care about her at all. Nope, definitely no care there)

But he ends up becoming minor friends with Mob! They don't really hang out much since one of them is a high schooler and the other is a middle schooler, and they live in completely different cities. But they have each other's number and bond over being psychic sometimes.

(Saiki is in complete shock about the fact that Mob makes no effort to hide his powers)

3. How did Makoto meet Reigen and get punched in the face?

i !! cant believe i havent posted this specifically but this reminds me, i think one of the reasons people hate on terusai so much is because SO MANY PEOPLE say that he "gasped at her looks like everyone else" when thats literally not even a little bit true..! im honestly not even sure how you can misinterpret it that badly, cuz they were saying it pretty explicitly.. it was very clear! his gasp was exactly what they were SAYING it was, him being attracted to her personality and the fact that shes grown as a person.. maybe people hate this scene so much because they just dont understand it.. they hate TERUHASHI because they dont understand HER..

i just posted about this earlier but i think people calling their relationship "fanservice" also kinda partly comes from this scene specifically.. they think he gasped at her looks and that the author was setting it up that way on purpose, like not even hes immune to her beauty, but he literally did not care about her looks at all... he couldnt even really see her yet at this point ? he called her pretty later, but this was only AFTER his attraction (platonic or romantic, PLUS him just generally caring about her a lot) to her as a PERSON was established.. hes allowed to think shes pretty!! hes even allowed to be attracted to her looks! but nowhere, never, not ONCE was it EVER implied that he likes her for her looks... and he definitely isnt as shallow as other people are toward her...

A major problem I think people run into when looking at terusai that might make them dislike the ship is that if you don't have an understanding of their development throughout the series, the relationship is going to seem overly shallow. Teruhashi and Saiki are not static characters, nor are they simple. Both of their growth comes from learning that they are just humans at the end of the day. Teruhashi genuinely starts to like Saiki (and all their friends) because she realizes she's not above it all like she originally thought. Saiki is attracted enough to gasp, but only when she shows this true self of hers! If you stick them together when they're still in their early characters, of course it's going to seem forced. Learning to let characters grow, especially in comedy animes, is hard for a lot of people, especially when it's not an 'in-your-face' kind of thing.
