One thing I absolutely love about this franchise is how the characters include their respective dragons into literally every conversation both casual and serious. It's never just, "Where is Hiccup?" It's always, "Where are Hiccup and Toothless." It's never, "The ingredients are in your satchel." It's, "The ingredients are in Toothless' saddle bag." Not just, "How are you holding up?" but always, "How are you guys holding up?" It's not, "How about an impartial judge for the Thorsten challenge? For the love of Thor take me with you." Instead it is, "How about a couple of impartial judges for the Thoston challenge? For the love of Thor, take us with you."

In most other media that involve an animal best friend, this is usually absent or not displayed as thoughtfully, the animal is usually missed in discussion or not included in such dialogue pieces but Httyd never does that. Dragons are always treated and included as equal individuals instead of just pets and I love that.

This year especially it feels like Lando has had to harden his outward persona for a lot of reasons - the intense scrutiny of every word that comes out of his mouth, the tightening of the WDC race, the increased visibility that his wins have brought, etc. But in that moment yesterday, we got a glimpse of LANDO and the way he so unapologetically (but almost always privately) loves the people he loves and how soft and gentle he gets when he's in that headspace and I could just SCREAM ABOUT IT.

I'm always reminded of what Martin K said about Lando that time, about how he always seemed careful of who he let close to him

and then I remember Martin saying there was an instant connection and Lando saying they have similar interests and a similar love for life which Martin has echoed

how quickly he became Marty and no doubt Martin has a nickname for Lando

how they've done their sneaky meet ups a la Lando on a boat with Martin that time to their lads holidays and then it became the Lando&Martin world tour and Lando's Koningsdag 2024 and how much Martin wanted to set the record straight that he didn't punch Lando in the nose lol

and then how Martin was unashamedly "I want Lando to win" ... in Zandvoort of all places

how we see them a bit less obvious on social media but when we actually get to see them together it's Lando sneaking up behind Martin to give him a squeeze or Martin being pretty much strictly in the McLaren garage

it's no words just hearts in insta comments and casual affectionate 'love you's
