I love the idea of Peter being a cardigan kind of guy. When he grew out of them he gave most of them to Remus who always used to compliment them anyways

I just really, really struggle with Peter becoming the man we see in GoF especially.

To be willing to hand over J/L to voldemort is one thing - it's convoluted but I've read a few takes which make sense of it.

But to go from that, to cutting off an arm for the guy? That's outrageous. Did he really hate James and Sirius that much? Ik he set Sirius up, but that was an anomaly.

Did he really hate J/S that much? He surely didn't like voldemort that much. Hell, voldemort himself said Peter had only sought him out because he was afraid of Sirius and Remus. But was he that afraid of them? They'd already not killed him. Why run from two people who might kill you for killing the fourth, into the arms of another person who you know for sure would kill you if you backed away from him? Strange, strange boy. He could have literally gone anywhere.

Anyway, the takes about reflecting on Peter were always about the way James and Sirius treated him, or undermined him.

Our favourite pacifist (elohel) doesn't get mentioned because... well, that wasn't him.

So...

Did Peter care about him? If my other thought has some basis, then he had that in common with Remus. He 'only' hurt Remus by hurting the others, so... surely that means enough that... being free, he could be there for that traumatic thing he's watching Remus go through for several years? If he cared...

I'm not sure.

Mild canon divergence where Peter feels slightly guilty and depressed after 1981 and makes an effort to join Remus for the full moons.

Remus is unable to remember, so it changes nothing except things aren't quite as bad as they had been for him as a child. He's still caged up, he just...scratches less. And the rat slips away between the bars, unnoticed.

Ron doesn't carry his rat to class and such, so it stands to reason he might vanish unnoticed from time to time. And of course it was Percy's rat before his - same applies.
