My Review:

A good historical fiction set in Venice after the WWI, a compelling story that mixes family saga, secrets, miscommunications, old and new loves, and a lot of surprises

I was hooked since the first pages and I liked Phoebe, the girl who went away, and the atmospheric description of Venice.

There’s a story and there’s the big history in a moment when everything is changing and nothing what used to be.

Phoebe discovers her long estranged aunts left her Venice palace to her.

It’s a beginning of a story that goes back in time and makes us know what Phoebe’s she was past and how became a famous photographer. The eye of the photo machine is a way to discover things and It will play a relevant role in the story.

The characters are fleshed out and lively, I felt for Phoebe and found the other characters interesting.

The historical background is well researched even if there’s some details that made me wonder as I think it could have been very hard even if not impossible, the religion choice at the beginning for instance

That said I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I will read other by this author as I always liked her story

It’s strongly recommended if you want to read a well plotted and intriguing historical fiction.

Divljacima s Platka samo prekršajna prijava, jedan od njih je sin moćnog HDZ-ovca

Pročelnik HSS-a Marko Andrić opisao je na presici kako se dogodio napad na njihove kolege na skijalištu Platak. Kaže da su im kolegu toliko izudarali da su mu morali izvaditi jezik i staviti ga na bok. Napadači nisu pokušavali pobjeći. Vikali su da su oni borci, da su istrenirani... Pročelnik HSS-a Marko Andrić na konferenciji za medije, koju je HGSS održao nakon brutalnog premlaćivanja HGSS-ovih djelatnika i djevojke na riječkom Platku ispričao je što se sve dogodilo tog dana. Rekao je kako su pretučeni volonteri iza 20 sati opazili BMW na skijalištu koji je upao u snijeg. Odbili su ga izvaditi iz snijega što je potaknulo incident. "U jednom trenu me jedan od poznanika uhvatio i rekao da su napali našeg člana ispred. Vidjeli smo iz kafića da se nešto događa i istrčali smo van i pokušali obraniti našeg prijatelja", objasnio je Andrić. BMW-om došli na Platak i driftali po stazi za skijaše, a onda se potukli s okupljenima "Nažalost, ja nisam vidio prvi napad koji se dogodio. Kasnije je taj kolega dobio još jedan udarac zbog kojeg je pao. Ja sam to gledao. Ne znam koji točno mladić ga je udario. Nakon što je pao, pokušao se pridići u sjedeći položaj i pri tome mu je jedan od mladića zadao brutalni udarac u glavu. Mi smo mu izvadili jezik i stavili ga na bok, sve ono za što smo obučeni. Ja sam se udaljio i tražio pomoć i da me se spoji na policiju", rekao je Andrić. Andrić je na konfereciji istaknuo kako je sudjelovao u obrani kolege. Pokušavao je rastaviti sukobljene. "Ne sjećam se ako sam dobio udarac, ali vjerojatno nešto i jesam u naguvaranju. Napadači nisu pokušali pobjeći, ali nisu se činili normalni. Vikali su da su oni borci, isticali su da su istrenirani", kazao je Andrić. Apsurd u cijeloj priči je da čovjek koji je ozlijeđen, dva sata ranije je spasio dvije izgubljene planinarke. Nije mi mogao previše reći o tome zašto je došlo do svega toga jer ima bolove u glavi i ne može gledati u ekran dugo. Koliko sam načuo, postoje snimke koje će nam objasniti sve to", zaključio je Andrić. Dobronamjernik koji je prvi pritekao u pomoć završio je sa slomljenom rukom te natučen, a ženska osoba koja je željela zaustaviti iživljavanje ima unutarnje krvarenje u plućima. No to je ono što se vidi, fizički, a posljedice će ostati zauvijek jer je nemoguće zaboraviti fizičko iživljavanje, očito dobro fizički spremnih, na slabijima. BMW trojice napadača u utorak prijepodne izvučen je iz snijega na Platku. Izgrednici su pušteni iz pritvora jer policija utvrdila da su trojica hrvatskih državljana, starosti 21 i 22 godine, počinila prekršaj naročito drskog i nepristojno ponašanje iz Zakona o prekršajima protiv javnog reda i mira te će protiv njih biti podneseni optužni prijedlozi nadležnom općinskom sudu, kažu u Policijskoj upravi primorsko-goranskoj. Provodi se i kriminalističko istraživanje nad Lukom Tirielom Abramovićem, Matejom Krunićem i Lovrom Pavelićem. Njih su zatekli na licu mjesta nakon napada.     BMW je, kako doznaje Index, vozio Lovro Pavelić. BMW je u njegovom vlasništvu. O njemu nema javno dostupnih informacija. Ime Mateja Krunića se spominjalo vezano uz borilačke sportove. Treći među uhićenima pa puštenima je i najpoznatiji u javnosti. Luka Tiriel Abramović se ranije spominjao kao mladi hrvatski skijaški reprezentativac. Skijao je i za Tursku, čije je državljanstvo očito dobio uz hrvatsko. Dražen Abramović, otac Luke Abramovića, član je HDZ-a, aktivan u lokalnoj podružnici stranke i pogodite gdje je šef? Šef je u Hrvatskim šumama - upravitelj šumarije Crni Lug! Kako je jutros objavio Novi list, napad je krenuo kad je mladić s djevojkom HGSS-ovcu zapriječio prolaz i zahtijevao da motornim sanjkama izvuče BMW iz snijega. HGSS-ovac im je rekao da to ne može te da ide na spavanje. Mladić ga je tada nokautirao te je on ostao ležati u nesvijesti.

Tada je dotrčao i drugi član HGSS-a u pomoć, no i on dobiva snažan udarac u glavu te ostaje na tlu.

Jedna ženska osoba je htjela zaustaviti iživljavanje i pomoći, no zaradila je četiri direktna udarca šakom u glavu i pala. Mladići, obojica teža od stotinu kilograma, nastavili su cipelariti pomagača cijelo vrijeme

Još jednom vidimo da je članska iskaznica zločinačke organizacije kradeze dozvola za ubojstvo.

Roditelji uhljebi u kradezeu - dovoljno da se nakon ovakvog brutalnog nasilje prođe samo sa prekršajnom prijavom za remećenje javnog reda i mira.

Policija je zasad trojac starosti 21 i 22 godine prijavila tek za remećenje javnog reda i mira.

Kako onda ne bismo imali dojam da je policija potpuno korumpirana?

My Review: I enjoyed the continuation of this story. It keeps growing and hasn't felt  stale or that it is going to fall off story-wise. For me, the way it is written it felt as if I was re-entering a TV show or someone's actual life. In this one it expands away from her hometown and her human life (which are spoilery so I won't add here). There is a tug at a love triangle but it isn't annoying and a rival that is interesting and not  -- for me anyway-- reasons to roll my eyes so hard that I end up throwing down the book. kemarin dengan segala emosi yang tidak cukup baik, stnk motor terbawa ayah. kereta sudah terlewat dan kereta selanjutnya cukup lama jadwalnya. akhirnya aku jalan ke depan, menunggu bis bogor depok lama sekali tak datang-datang. begitu memutuskan naik angkot, angkot jurusan tsb ga lewat-lewat. akhirnya berangkat jam 8, sampai kantor 9.10an. sampai badr juga how to deal with stabilitas diri gitu  yang udah kemulai dari berangkat sebenarnya. hari ini alhamdulillah meski agak buru-buru bisa nyempetin mampir ke rumah teman menitip barang, ke asrama teman yang dia jadi musyrifahnya mengobrol sebentar dan mendapat insight, lalu dilanjut ke badr. tes, ks, design challenge, acc test, dsb dsb. merasa bersalah masuk ke obrolan orang. deal dengan perasaan khawatir orang ada feel gak enak sama aku (never mind, it is okay). pulang gak fokus. mau pulang lewat depan akhirnya muter ulang lewat jalan dalam. lupa harus mampir maketin titipan lalu balik arah untuk kedua kalinya. mampir ganti lampu. dan platku sudah tak ada di tempatnya :") setelah nanya ke tiga orang mereka tidak ada yang lihat. akhirnya pasrah dengan baiklah harus mencari ganti plat lewat alur lapor kehilangan karena ayah khawatir ada yang menyalahgunakan plat tsb. asa malas juga sebenarnya perlu urus-urus dengan skema birokrasinya. tapi ya sudah takapa. belajar nerima, sabar. kemudian berpikir. akhir-akhir ini kayak dikasih Allah medan belajar sabar. harusnya bersyukur ya. karena kalau lulus, insya Allah akan jadi pribadi yang  lebih baik. terima kasih ya Allah. semoga ku sabar menjalani ujian kesabaran dan keikhlasan ini :") dan alhamdulillah hari ini Allah sempatkan ketemu dengan tiga teman yang sudah lama tak bersua. semoga kertas putihnya bisa selalu terlihat dibanding titik hitamnya ya fit. http://dlvr.it/Qk4y9T

Everything is Beautiful by Eleanor Ray

My Review (5*): I should be one of the few humans beings in the first world that didn’t read Eleanor Oliphant so I can’t say if there are similarities or not. What I can say is that I never used the adjective “gripping” for a women’s fiction and this a way I would described this book. Because it’s a women’s fiction but it’s also an excellent thriller and the mix of the genres works very well making this book a page turner you can’t put down. The story is poignant, emotionally charged and it moved me to tears more than once as I know a hoarder and I can say that the author did an excellent job in describing this type of persons. Amy sees beauty in discarded objects but she also use the objects to collect to avoid being hurt again. We can read about her past, about what she was and we can read about her current life and what she became. She try to avoid human contacts and she’s stuck in the moment when her world fell down. She starts to heal the moment some of her objects are destroyed and part of the barriers fall down. The moment Amy starts to heal is also the moment when she starts investigating the disappearance of her fiancee and her best friends. This is also the moment when the story becomes a thriller as she’s collecting clues and discovering that not all is what it seemed. The solution to the mystery part came as a surprise and I was satisfied by it as it’s also the moment when Amy can leave the past behind and starts living again. I loved the excellent character development: Amy is a complex and interesting woman. We learn she’s very beautiful but this is just an element as the plot is more about what’s going on in her mind. All the characters are fleshed out and interesting, some are lovely as Richard and the children. Some are quite hateful, excellent villain in this story. The plot is tightly knitted and the dual timeline helps the reader to understand what happened and who were these persons whose disseverance hurt Amy so much. I think this is an excellent debut and this book is strongly recommended. Many thanks to Piatkus and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Podvožnjak kod brodogradilišta 3. maj je ponovno bio pod vodom, Krešimirova ulica koja spaja Mlaku i Žabicu našla se također pod vodom te je bila iznimno opasna za vožnju zbog brojnih izbijenih šahti, a slična situacija bila je i u Ulici J. P. Kamova gdje su stanari sami krenuli u akciju odštopavanja šahti. Kiša je počela padati prijepodne, a pojačala se oko 16 sati. Nije stala padati niti…

Jako nevrijeme zahvatilo je i područje od Kopra do Trsta gdje se snažna grmljavinska ćelija zadržavala više od sat vremena. Sa zahladnjenjem u večernjim satima, kiša je u gorju brzo prešla u snijeg.
