GALLERY: Overcoats

Overcoats, the indie pop duo of Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell, took the stage of The Back Room at Colectivo last week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to a crowd of dedicated fans, including a 7-year-old with a handmade sign. Overcoats’ opener, Plastic Picnic, captivated the crowd with their chill synth pop and a guitar player doing double-duty for both bands that night. Overcoats’ performance embodied their decade-long partnership and vocal chemistry as they held hands, danced in unison and sang their signature harmonies. The duo performed some of the recent singles of their third album, “Winner” (released under their own label April 7 this year), including their personal favorite, “New Suede Shoes,” and the titular track, which, as Hana described it, is about “faking it ‘til you make it.”

A stand out moment of the show had Hana and JJ asking the crowd for a song to cover as they, along with their guitarist, attempted to pick it up on the fly. They performed a shaky “Jolene” before landing “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac (pun intended) to an encouraging audience– all as a warm up for their iconic cover of Hozier’s “Cherry Wine.” Check out some of our highlights below.

soap who's been so fixated on his career he's never really allowed himself to date, he's just constantly been working - him being so determined to make something of himself that he never really allowed himself to relax

so hes also going through a lot of firsts with ghost, as hes mostly only had flings

soap going all out on the cliche things bc he has literally learned all of his dating knowledge through romcoms. he brings ghost flowers, chocolate, they go on nice dates where they go out and eat smth proper

each time ghost does smth for him it has him so flustered bc soap has also never had that before!! so its so very exciting!! he honestly loves when ghost does those cliche things, too. soap has never had a flower live more then a week when in his grasp, but he insists on ghost buying him flowers nonetheless just out of principle

i just think both soap and ghost being a little bit clueless when it comes to dating, probably doing things a little bit out of order, but being ever so tender with one another and learning it together is just really sweet
