JD Vance backs a company called AcreTrader that scoops up American farmland and sells it to investors. It would be very good for his company to bankrupt farmers.

People realize USAID was never strictly about altruism, right?
It was more diplomacy than anything.
The US was getting certainly things in return.
You know, like, keeping middle class farmers in America happy.

I jokingly made a deathnote save where I play as Light, but now I can’t stop thinking of Light and L owning a lil farm together with Near and Mello as their adopted sons/farmhands

By the end of the day yesterday, the hoop house was all gone. Heading east on a big truck to have a new life with new people. Very nice new people, I enjoyed meeting the man who bought it. Tomorrow I'm supposed to go down and Roommate and I will clean up any leftover items. Some tools, sawhorses, planks, etc. Also, K and I will have to transplant the few remaining flowers that were in there as soon as they sprout up. It was nice having it as a sheltered spot to make our Christmas wreaths, but using it for two weeks a year was not reason enough to keep it.
The new owner said he'll send us pictures when they get it put up. That's - unexpectedly kind.
Saying Goodbye
A week or two ago the boys told me that they had found a buyer for my late father's big hoop house. He had that put in when he was around 70, and grew flowers to wholesale to local florists. I doubt if he ever made a profit on that; his (numerous) business ventures tended to involve a whole lot of startup energy (and $) and then peter out as his adhd attention moved on to other things. He did do it for almost ten years, though, until he had a bad fall at age 80 that left him unable to get around any more.
He and I ended our decades-long estrangement when K was around 3 years old, and I remember helping out by planting tiny snapdragon seedlings in long rows inside that hoophouse. K, tiny as she was, was fascinated by planting and did a very good job helping.
Today folks will start disassembling it to ship the pieces east to a farm near where Roommate grew up. I'm happy it will have a good new home, and be used again. I'm a little sad to be losing it, but it's far too big for our needs.

The plastic only has a ten-year lifespan, and this piece tore about two years before my father passed away. He nagged us relentlessly to fix it. However, it was pointless to fix it (and have the clock start ticking on the new plastic) when he wasn't mobile enough to use it. Ah, folks with dementia get fixated on stuff and you just have to have the conversation over, and over, and over again.

On my way down the road to look at it this morning, I heard the first geese passing over heading north. Spring, soon!
