The Future of Vegetable Farming: Driving Organic Growth
Tumblr media
Modern vegetable farming has seen drastic changes due to advancements in technology, such as the implementation of biodomes and automated irrigation systems. Through the use of precision agriculture, growers are now able to control the environment they grow in and maximize crop production while ensuring that soil health is maintained. This has allowed vegetable gardens to become more self-sustaining and efficient, with much lower water and input costs, while still producing fresh and safe produce.
The organic vegetable farming sector is on the up-and-up, with consumers more interested in buying locally produced and organic produce than ever before. As space in urban areas becomes more limited, some ambitious farmers have taken vegetable farming to a whole new level: urban rooftop farms. And despite an initial investment hurdle, technological advances in sustainable agriculture offer the possibility of automated, hydroponic, vertical farming - giving us a glimpse of a potential food supply revolution in the near future.
A Movement Towards the Local
The sustainable food-chain represents one of the most dynamic, renewable and sustainable sectors in the food market. Consumers have become increasingly interested in purchasing locally-produced, organic vegetables and this trend is likely to continue. As a result, vegetable farms have become more varied and more responsible than ever before. The consumer demand for ‘local’ and ‘organic’ vegetables is rapidly increasing, with a global market worth over $2.3 billion in 2018.
Rethinking Urban Space Utilization
Urban rooftop farms are becoming more commonplace, especially in cities where viable land is scarce and more expensive. These farms are a relatively new concept - growing vegetables in gravel, compost, and soil mixtures encased in containers - and are quickly gaining popularity. As the trend increases, so too do the opportunities for urban farmers to monetize their efforts. Urban rooftop farms are especially useful for providing food to people living in food deserts – urban and rural areas where access to fresh and affordable produce is either non-existent or limited. As the number of rooftop farms continues to increase, so too will the improved access to quality, fresh produce for those living in areas of limited access.
The Future of Automated Farming
The next step for vegetable farming is the potential for automation. Leading the charge in hydroponic and vertical farming has been Netherlands-based company PlantLab, who believe they can revolutionize the food supply with their advanced, proprietary growing methods. Hydroponic agriculture uses minimum water and no soil – instead, plants are fed nutrients through a non-soil medium – while vertical farming utilizes grow towers rather than acres of land.
PlantLab estimates that their systems could produce more than 10 times the amount of produce than traditional farming techniques in the same space. Moreover, the system is self-sustainable once the initial costs and setup are done. While this form of farming comes with huge startup expense and significant amounts of technological knowledge required for implementation, it has the potential to revolutionize the way we produce food.
Organic Growth: The Vegetable Farming Industry
The future of vegetable farming looks bright, as the organic movement grows in popularity and technological developments enable new forms of efficient, automated farming. Consumers have become increasingly aware and interested in supporting local food sources and in turn, this has resulted in an increase in employment for urban farmers.
Furthermore, technological advances have enabled farmers to take their production efforts to a new level – providing fresh produce to those living in food deserts with urban rooftop farms and revolutionizing the entire food supply system with hydroponic and vertical farming technologies.
The vegetable farming industry is growing – and it’s showing no sign of stopping.
for formatting The future of vegetable farming continues to look bright with new developments such as advanced hydroponics, high-value specialty vegetable varieties, and strategic marketing opportunities. As we continue to learn more about sustainable and efficient vegetable farming methods, we are sure to see a dramatic improvement in vegetable production with major benefits for both farmers and consumers.
This dynamic and ever-growing field will continue to offer possibilities for innovative and eco-friendly ways of cultivating the food of the future. Learn more about vegetable farming with Taim.io

Il Piccolo Chimico, ll TikToker Marco Martinelli arriva su Rai Gulp
Tumblr media
Propagating cuttings
I was early to meet a friend for coffee so I browsed the nursery next to the cafe. Next thing you know, I've stumbled across this:
Tumblr media
(it was clean when I bought it!)
By the time my friend came to find me, I was armed with advice on how to take cuttings from the wonderful gardener at the counter, armed with the root striking powder, a pretty pot, and the gift of a cutting from a plant growing between the bricks!
I've planted 3 different cuttings so far:
Tumblr media
1) The cutting from the nursery. I can't remember what the gardener said it was named, but I love surprises!
Tumblr media
2) A cutting from the orange tree in the backyard of this rental property. It's grown some fantastic fruit this year, and hopefully I might be able to keep a mini version until I've got somewhere to set down roots.
Tumblr media
3) A white camellia also from this backyard. I remember my mum taking about getting cuttings from camellia bushes and growing them when she was a girl, so hopefully it's a hardy plant that'll take root easily!
The pots I'm using were only $1.50 at Kmart, and I can write on them with my chalk pen so they're easy to label. I'm keeping them indoors for now as it's winter and I need to keep the soil damp - much more manageable if I don't need to venture out into the cold!
I used a mix of 1/3 mature compost from the compost tumbler and 2/3 regular potting mix. Hopefully that will give the roots plenty of nutrients to get settled and grow me some more plants!
Will update when there's any developments 😊

11 Questions Tag
I was tagged by @plantlab (thank you so much for the tag!). This looks pretty fun so I hope you enjoy it too!
Rules: answer these 11 questions, make up some more and tag 11 people.
1. What’s your favorite book? That’s a super tough question but I think it has to be ‘The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet’ by Becky Chambers because it is honestly just so amazing and the characters are just brilliant. It’s a really interesting look at the less action-packed and glamorous side of science fiction which follows the crew of a ship through a job they’ve taken on. I won’t say anything else except for you absolutely have to read it.
2. Favorite place to study? That would have to be in the library at university in the quiet study area where there’s still some noise with people quietly studying together but it’s still quiet enough to really focus. Plus it feels like somewhere to be working which helps motivate me to study more.
3. What are you most proud of right now? Honestly? The work that I’ve put in revising for my exams at the moment, I’ve never worked quite this hard so consistently at something before. I guess that just shows how much of a difference enjoying the subject you study can make.
4. If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Anywhere my friends are going to be.
5. Early mornings or late nights? Late nights all the way! But I really have to get better at handling the early mornings which is why I made my resolution of getting up earlier.
6. Happiest memory? Nothing specific but probably the middle of Year 11 because everything was so trivial and it all just felt okay for a few months.
7. Do you have any pets? What are their names? Sadly not, I did have a goldfish years ago who was called Bob, he lived for like 10 years which was pretty damn good for a tiny little goldfish.
8. What is your clothing style? Casual I guess? I have no idea, I like button up shirts with a t-shirt underneath with jeans but that’s as much thought as I put into it if I’m being honest.
9. Where is your happy place? My bedroom, it’s a place I can relax and be away from the world and it’s somewhere I know well so I can feel properly at ease there.
10. What’s the last thing you bought? A Might Car Mods book which is a coffee table book containing illustrations, photos, and information about all the cars they’ve worked on. (Mighty Car Mods is an Australian YouTube channel based around two guys working on cars and having fun and just not taking things too seriously; if cars are your thing or even just interest you I recommend giving some of their stuff a watch)
11. What is the strangest thing you did as a (I assume this was meant to say child)? Not really strange but I just fell off things and climbed over stuff I wasn’t supposed to a lot, even as a baby. Fortunately its a habit I’ve grown out of but I do still fall over quite a bit so perhaps it’s not entirely gone.
My questions:
1. What’s your dream job?
2. When was the last time you saw your friends?
3. What accomplishment are you most proud of in your life?
4. Do you make new years resolutions?
5. Who is your favourite artist or author?
6. How happy are you about where you are in life right now?
7. Introvert or extrovert (or the mythical ambivert)?
8. Favourite item of clothing?
9. Where is your dream holiday destination?
10. Do you like Star Wars?
11. How much time do you spend on your phone during a typical day?

Today The common peony or paeony (Paeonia officinalis) Found snuggled up against a fence in the front garden. Had a quiet moment yesterday after the Mother's Day barbecue at grandma and grandpa's garden. The blossom is huge, no really very big - 20 maybe 25cm in diameter. Once again a plant that does not come from here but rather from the south behind the Alps to the Black Sea. But with these blossoms, I would think a win. Come well into the evening and even better through the night and into the morning! #bedecktsamer #Eudikotyledonen #Kerneudikotyledonen #steinbecherartige #pfingstrose #Saxifragales #Paeoniaceae #Paeonia #Tracheophytes #peony #paeony #plantlab #paeoniasuffruticosa #flowerbulbs #inmygarden #inmygardentoday #vorgarten #allesblüht #hammerblumen #plantnet #plantnetapp #blumenfoto #blumenfotos #blümen #blumenfotografie #blomster #blomfotografering #bergedorf #chrysanderstraße (hier: Hamburg-Mitte, Hamburg, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CADXIkDnxNP/?igshid=1i4ebfn63kfy5
