From 2018 to 2019, while I was still in high school, I made Planter's Diary: a feature length visual novel made entirely by myself using the Adventure Game Studio engine. This game represents a personal milestone on my journey to becoming a professional artist and writer, as well as being an incredibly personal work. I was dealing with a lot, having discovered I was a trans woman and working through my feelings about that. In addition, the character of Planter would go on to foreshadow the emergence of my headmate Alice. In short, this is vital Poppet Sisters lore that should be preserved and shared.

This game is incredibly janky in all facets, including art, writing, music, and especially coding. You will likely run into glitches and cringe at how bad the art, dialogue, and songs are. Day 4: The Substitute in particular is one I wish I just cut from the game entirely. I forgive myself for these as I was 17 and working through incredibly raw emotions, but for you playing the game, it might not make for the best experience. I apologise in advance for my younger self's lack of polish.

You'll notice that this is the third edition of the game. This is because the first and second edition included my deadname. No edits to dialogue or art have been made, however an extra scene was added to the 3rd Edition written after I graduated college.

[Excerpt from Áine's diary (continued) ]

I have been honest with Mother about what I did, what I saw, and the dreams I am having. She was a bit cross at first because I went outside by myself at night, but she is mostly glad I am okay. Father came in just as I was talking about it, and he yelled at Mother. The two argued for a long time. Father argued that this was why I never should have been shown magic in the first place, that I never should have been shown how to use it.

I got very angry because Father was yelling. I lost control of my magic, and the sparks hit one of the planters and set it on fire. Mother put it out with a Kryonis spell, and the ice put the fire out.

I wish Mother and Father would not argue so much about me. I want to learn magic. I know it's scary, but if someone tries to capture me, then I will know how to defend myself. I don't want to hide my magic forever. Magic can be used for good, and that's what I want to do. I want to help people with my magic…even if Father doesn't want me to learn.

THE WALES DIARIES ♚

8 MAY 2023 || KING CHARLES III'S CORONATION - THE BIG HELP OUT, SLOUGH

The Prince and Princess of Wales along with their three children visited Slough as part of the Big Help Out. This was Louis' first official royal engagement.

They volunteered at a Scout Hut helping Upton scouts renovate and improve a building. They helped with works including resetting a path, digging a new soakaway, sanding and revarnishing the front door, adding planters to the front of the building and adding a mural to create a lasting legacy of the Big Help Out’s work.

During the visit William tried out his hand at operating a JCB and even let George and Louis help him out. The Waleses also did some archery with Lottie hitting the bullseye.

They then roasted some marshmallows and had smores. Lou Bug also did a lot some hand painting along with his parents and siblings.

4.11.2024 back to work today. Rushing to finish everything for the shop! Still had some time to sketch tho, and checked my planter at night and found my spinach is growing yaaay

Tav and Durge's tents

For Tav's tent, I like to draw inspiration from the dark cottagecore aesthetic for its esoteric/mother nature vibes. My Tav lived for a long time in the middle of Cloakwood, almost cut off from civilization. She feels more into her element in the wild than in the city (her wild magic also has an influence on that).

Her tent is smaller than those of her companions and is very worn (you can see seams and patchworks here and there). Around it, you can find herbs and plants hanging or placed on her side counter where she makes potions for the group, with a "alchemist" kit, vials and a cauldron that is always boiling (there are bowls at the foot of it, but it's better to ask her opinion before trying to taste a spoonful, since there's a fifty-fifty chance it will kill you). You can also find small sharp knifes, useful for cutting up hunted beasts in order to recover the parts useful for alchemy.

Next to the tent, a planter and some pots where she can grow the plants she finds during her journey and thus cultivate them (for unlimited potions!!).

Her bedroll is very messy, she sleeps around books that she finds during her travels (but never finishes) and many arrows with her bow.

Tav works better on the floor, so she places mats on the ground in front of her tent to spread out her loot. There's also her old big backpack always open so she just has to dig into it when she needs something. Fun fact, she paid a small fortune for it at a market in Baldur's Gate. It's very big to the point where, when traveling, anyone can see the backpack before Tav... It has several handles, as well as shoulder straps and belts so she can keep it hanging around her. It happened several times that Karlach lifted Tav by one of these handles (for example, to help her climb a high place) (some accidents happened because of that too) (like Tav falling into the river because she forgot to fasten the belt around her before Karlach tried to lift her).

Durge's tent is a mixture of refinement and disorder; She likes pretty things and tidy things, but sometimes she gets lost in her organization, creating a whole chaotic mess. This fits both her god-like status and the fact that she has amnesia, constantly searching for any answer. So the first things one will notice in her tent, which appears spacious, are specific pieces of paper, letters, and books that she kept. This serves her to develop theories and carry out investigations into her forgotten past. What she considers not necessary in her investigation but still important to her, she puts it in her chest (after all, you never know if a particular discovery might trigger a familiar memory or sensation.) She keeps a diary, or at least has accumulated three, to leave traces of her adventures, days and discoveries as well as to record her theories and schemes.

Not far from her bedroll, Durge likes to make a pile of gold and other valuables that she amasses during their journey. Lae'zel once pointed out to her that this behavior looked a lot like a dragon, and since Durge has scales, this allowed her to confirm that she surely has a dragon part in her. At the top of this golden pile is a jewelry box. Really, no shiny thing is safe with her around.

Speaking of piles, she has another one that makes one part of the tent quite messy where she collects pieces of metal and iron, everything related to mechanics, engineering. She doesn't know why she does this, Durge is simply fascinated and feels a kind of adoration and admiration when she manipulates these kinds of objects.

Durge has a collection of daggers, it's her favorite weapon, as if she could become one with them. She only keeps her favorites. Often well-elaborated daggers with twisted blades. Not far from this arsenal of weapons is its more practical and medical corner. It seems that she has a gift for recognizing a particular injury or illness, her equipment being stored in a first aid kit. She also has poisons and antidotes, apparently these are her specialties.

And finally, hidden in this beautiful mess, among the pretty red fabrics with intricate patterns, is a poster of Enver Gortash. It's a poster that she tore up when they arrived at Baldur's Gate when no one was looking. And honestly, I don't think she wants her companions to find out - it would be complicated and awkward for her to explain.

Dear Diary,

I MISSED IT. I MISSED WEEDING DAY. I AM SO UPSET WITH MYSELF.

Okay so I was feeling extra sleepy and not too well yesterday so I kinda slept in...for the entire day. I know I know, because when I woke up it was 6:00am TODAY. Uggghhhhhhh I am so upset. I wish there was a way for me to turn back time so that I didn't miss it. I couldn't even go into Leif shop today because I don't want to even talk about it. I was hyping it up to you, to Clay, to Chrissy, to Dierdre, to everyone really and when the day came I was the only one not there. So disappointing,

I don't even really have a good reason for it either. I was practicing my art skills so that I could better design clothes for Sable's sewing machine... I didn't even get far in it. I have nothing to show for missing Weeding day except my tears.

Back to my daily stuff before I continue with the self loathing....

Dierdre invited me to her birthday party on May4th which is awesome because mine is the very next day! Also it's the only birthday party I've been invited to so it's gonna be extra fun. I have to make sure I get her a really good gift. Probably something mermaid related?

Also T-Bone is leaving. I have a hard time being sad about it since I didn't really talk to him all that much but I hope that he finds a place where he can try all the food he wants like he was talking about.

I can't help but feel like a bad mayor...not just because I missed weeding day but because everyone keeps wanting to leave it feels like. I know I may sound super confident in my skills but deep down I'm worried I'm not doing great. I try to visit and talk to everyone but there are just some people I don't click with and I feel like as Mayor that should be kept to a minimal as possible. But much like how I can't go back in time, I can't change what has already happened. I guess like mom says, I can only move forward.

I checked on my turnip prices today and they were 111 bells. I remembered what Joan said about how they only last a week so I made sure to sell them and I want to believe that I made a profit but I cannot remember how much I bought them for. I will need to make sure that I keep a note of that tomorrow when I buy some more turnips cause you know me, I am all about making that bread. Not today though, I am pretty sad.

I spent a lot of time in the museum looking at the fish and realized, I still don't have that many fish here. I should really work on that if I want a place to sit when I am sad. I mean I have outside on the beach but that's not the same as watching fish swim by...

ALSO where is the club that Shrunk promised? It still hasn't been built. I wonder if he told me that it would take longer than normal projects and I just tuned it out because I was thinking about capturing that golden stag beetle. I was also thinking about buying a diving suit but that really doesn't help me when the ocean is still cold on the mainland.

I aldo found a few more Gyroids today. I think I'm on a roll with finding them now. I don't know why it took so long but it seems pretty fantastic to me. However, when I was going around looking for them, I fell into a pitfall. Sly was right there when I fell in so I feel like my suspicions that it is him are completely justified. It may have also been one that I personally planted but I'm not sure because I planted a few. He then asked me to get a cherry for him to eat after he didn't even help me get out of the hole. It is because of these things, I am confident the pitfall seed planter is Sly. Granted Ribbot walked by with a shovel...but that's not important. I am sure he was looking for Gyroids to give to Clay as well...

Regardless, I am going to run a full fledged investigation on Sly starting tomorrow. He can't keep getting away with this!

We will see what evidence I “dig” up.

Cancelled Poppet Sisters Game

Like so many projects of mine, most of them never reach the finish line, however I want to share with you a game I had intended to make after Planter's Diary. It's a point and click life-sim called PK ULTRA!!

The premise of PK-Ultra was that it took place in an alternate history where "brain-compatable technology" has been around since the 1970s. In the modern day, this meant that you could purchase cartridges (or plug-ins) for your brain that could assist you with any number of things. Below are a collection of advertisements for "Brain Plug-ins":

You play as Wesley, a trans boy who's looking for work in the fast-paced tech world.

Using your trusty smart watch, you have an assortment of ways to manage your stats.

But this life-sim isn't the cozy escape you expect it to be. This is a survival game about managing your hunger, paying your rent, and working in a gig economy.

How will you ever manage all this on your own? Well remember, this is an alternate universe with brain enhancements, and take a wild guess what the main gimmick of the game is:

Yep! Throughout the game, you'll be required to purchase these plug-ins to performance-enhance your life. Anything from Hourglassy: the encyclopedia for your brain. Znoose: the sleep aid which lowers the amount of time you have to rest. TURBO BRAIN: a super duper safe plug-in that overclocks your brain. or even PAWS: which teaches you wholesome American values such as racism.

You'll be able to explore a semi-open world full of weird and wonderful side characters. One of them is a programmer named Edith, who's working on a modded Znoose which can instantly put your brain to sleep with the push of a button.

Her ultimate plan is to enter the astral plane by essentially locking her consciousness out of her body using this tech. Whether her plan succeeds or fails is... left to interpretation.

The villain of the game is Leon LeMain, the CEO of a company called Hourglass which produces Rightaway. He ends up being at the centre or a grand mind control conspiracy (who would've guessed) and it's all up to you and a small group of friends to tear the whole operation down.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed what was essentially an art dump for a no longer in-development project. Maybe someday I'll salvage these ideas for something in the future. Here's a bus ticket if you ever want to visit this setting again.

Gratitude Diary

It’s been a busy and somewhat stressful week with fire training in town and then the Civil Aviation Authority coming out to inspect the airfield the following day, so for a start I’m just grateful all of that is finished and went well!! I am grateful that: I have finally managed to get the last of the weed netting in and around my planters, plus I’ve put mats around my willows and hawthorns so…

Genshin: TJ's Serenitea Pot Decoration Diaries - Liyue, Part 1

I finally got around to messing with my teapot on pc! I ended up spending an embarrassing amount of time last night/earlier this morning (unintentionally pulled an all-nighter) to renovate and completely redo a couple sections of my Liyue themed pot.

Let’s get into the good stuff, shall we? Keqing will be our tour guide for today’s showing. Yapping about the process is under the cut!

Firstly, I wasn’t liking the empty space surrounding my estate courtyard so I crafted some more stone pathways and wall pieces to expand it outwards and give it a more defined layout. My planters and pavilion both have their own spaces now. Sadly, I ran out of load space in this area so it’s a bit more sparse in the rest of the courtyard than I would’ve liked it to be. I’m not too concerned about it though, the minimalistic nature seems more fitting than not.

Then came the two giant time killers (and the onset of my sleep deprivation). So, the area that I gutted and redid used to be a small little town with a community market and performance stage. The main downside was the layout of everything; no matter how much finagling I did of the space, it didn’t feel cohesive and I ultimately decided it would be easier to start over with a new vision.

The vision was a mountainous village with a market located at the entrance and a separated performance area. My enemy, load space limitation, however, did not agree with this vision so the market had to be sacrificed. While this did put a damper on things, it also allowed me to put more detail into the mountains to make them feel a bit more natural/realistic.

But that wasn’t all. While spending way too much time tediously adjusting rocks and landscape, I couldn’t help but make my life more difficult by adding a secret hideout. I’m pretty sure getting the cave to work took a solid 45 minutes of adjustments… Should I have spent that long trying to do that? Probably not but now I have a cave so that’s pretty cool.

If anyone on NA server wants the replica blueprint ID, just give me a shout. Happy to share these layouts and spare people to pain of trying to do it themselves. Just be warned that you’re going to have to buy a couple thousands worth of rocks/landscape and farm a ton of sand-bearer wood if you don’t already have everything on hand.

That’s it for today! Planning on finishing out the last plot of empty space I have sometime in the next few weeks so I’ll be sharing that when it’s all done. I’ll also be renovating the interior of my Liyue estate at some point in the future too so you can expect to see that eventually.
