5.4.2024: It's April, why is there snow on my balcony. I meant to go run some errands after work, but it's literally snowing horizontally and I was soggy the second I stepped out the door. Today I had more filler research and a demo lab on compression testing hydrogels

In mid-April of 2019, I discovered I’ve been a green witch for my entire life. I found myself wanting to learn as much about this new part of my identity as I possibly could, and to discover what I could do with it. This weekly post is to help with exactly that - to serve as a focus, a single place to compile all my thoughts, my learnings, my findings, my discoveries and realizations.

Witchy Doings
There’s honestly not too much to write about this week - I’ve been very busy at work preparing for a huge leadership event that takes place next week, took Memorial Day Weekend to visit my sister-in-law in New Jersey, and spent a day at the NJ Renaissance Faire.
BUT. While there, I saw a vendor stall advertising Kitchen Witchery, so I stopped by and saw they were selling a large selection of homemade cooking oils. They had tiny bread cubes to dip into each oil to try as a sample, and it all tasted DIVINE. I picked up the Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil variety, and the Roasted Garlic variety. I am SO EXCITED to cook with them. 💖
Adventures in Plant-Keeping
Tyler may not know the full extent of my green witchery, but he fully supports and enables my love for plants. Case in point - as an early birthday gift, he took me to the Lowes gardening center and told me he’d pay for any new plants and gardening supplies I wanted. 💖💖💖
So the deck garden has expanded!!!
My plants now include, top down, left to right:
Lavender
Strawberry
Hydrangea
Oregano (pt. 1)
Rosemary
Green Pepper
Mint
Basil
Tomato
Oregano (pt. 2)
Citronella
And I’m still on the lookout for Catnip and for anything that will attract bees. ❤️🐝
My May houseplant box has arrived! It’s my first shipment of air plants, and I now have three new friends!! They’re three different varieties of Tillandsia, and I’ve named them Apollo, Frigg, and Renley.
I also picked up a teeny-tiny little air plant that lives in a magnetic vase on my fridge from our local annual Arts Fest this week, and that one is named Smidge. 😊 (Along with two hand-crafted tea mugs and some local raw honey!)
Counting air plants and deck planters, I now have 30 plants in my house!!
Hints that I’ve Been a Witch This Whole Time
Almost every single piece of jewelry I own is flower or nature themed.
I adore candles and incense like there’s no tomorrow. I haven’t yet graduated to essential oils, but give it time.
My cubicle at work is FULL of candles and floral and wood decor. I don’t yet have any live plants at work, because I’ve been nervous about not being able to care for it properly and inadequate sunlight. But again.. give it time. 🌱
My hair, wardrobe, and overall style, vibe, and aesthetic have been giving multiple people an elvish or forest creature impression for several years now.
When I adopted my cat back in 2013, I didn’t choose her. She chose me. I only recently learned this is a huge telltale sign of being claimed by a familiar.
I didn’t even pay attention to her, initially. Nor did I go to the shelter with the intent to adopt.
It was a habit of mine at the time to go to the local shelter just to love on the critters, as that was something the staff actively welcomed, and I needed my fuzzy fix after losing my dog the year prior.
All the pets at this shelter were allowed to wander free with each other. Small dogs had one room, large dogs another, puppies another, young cats another, and adult cats in yet another.
I decided to visit the young cat room and sit on the floor to give out some loving. The first cat I noticed when I walked in was a beautiful little calico, fast asleep on a pillowed shelf in the back of the room. But because it was sleeping, I let it be, and just sat near it instead, with my back to the shelf.
A few minutes went by of me adoring and snuggling several other rumbly cats, and the next thing I feel is this tiny tap on my shoulder. I look, and it’s a little calico paw, tentatively feeling its way onto me.
Another paw followed, and then the calico nose, and then the entire no-longer-snoozing cat from the shelf, sleepily climbing her way onto my shoulder, down my chest, and into my arms.
And she immediately settled down right there, snuggled into my arms, and fell right back asleep.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I fell completely head over heels with that cat right then and there, and made the spontaneous decision that I wanted to take her home.
One month later, after the adoption process, recovery from a cold, and additional recovery from spaying, my 8-month-old Lily came home for the very first time. 💕💕💕
