TOMBSTONES
I went to the meadow where we first made love and now it looks like a graveyard Covered in the monuments of our soon to be forgotten memories Looking out I see the trees have the marks we left on each other embedded on their skin While looking at ours gives you that feeling of being in a home that was once yours but now is no longer
As I walked through a life we shared I stumbled upon the fallen branches of a lost forest But when I stepped down It felt more like I was shattering bones beneath my feet rather than wood
When I descended farther I found myself picking flowers Bringing me back to the times when I was a child Plucking the petals off of roses in the garden Mumbling the words, He loves me He loves me not And now years later I do the same
The petals fall to my feet and my fingers are stained I unhinged the last And the words āhe loves meā slip through my lips
I realized he might have loved me But he didnāt love us
