YET another blog - three inspriational personalities
By Beverley Agyiewa-anokye
October, filled with it's mildly chilled mornings complimented by a beautiful auburn ombre of fallen leaves scattered on all over parts of the world comes to us quite quickly as we reach Autumn. we wind down to enjoy hot beverages, cosed up in snug slippers and blankets , fireworks and pumpkin spiced latte ( yuck but Ti's the season!)
we approach black history month with the theme everything black, embracing and appreciating all that represents us and more. from #blackgirlmagic watching the rise and empowerment of black women reaching their fullest potential to the ongoing life long debate amongst people my age, from several parts of Africa and the Caribbean on Plantain vs Plantin. ( it is plantain by the way ) and #blacklivesmatter.
It is clear to see for me that representation matters as if it was not for the social media and it's influences many of us would not find it in them to try to be their true selves without feeling alienated for their interests and likes. science, technology, different musical tastes gaming and anime have allways been an interest of mine growing up with brothers; it seems to have influenced my interests into adult life. Friends over the years would say silly things like " oh you're so white " as the interests didn't register with a typical black girl in south west London. you're kidding right? one thing my mum allways used say to me is to be proud of your African heritage, I still am but being born in London traditions and culture have been Incorporated which makes room for people to judge .
Hmm I wonder what this years Google page would look like this October?
we have come to the age in technology where we can can connect with people who have similar interests of ours which can really make you feel like you are part of this awsome , exclusive community no-one that you know can really fit into. a few come to mind via facebook such as ; PLANETEJOBN: The Extraordinary Journey of a Black Nerd Group . which is litterally a group dedicated to all things that are anime , comics, movies,mainstream , debates and so forth. another is Audioblerds which has a community of music heads, sharing music , debates on which artist is more appealing , making playists and so forth.
it does come to mind that you are how you spend the most time with or is it the most three? I forget but you get the point. social media have influenced so many people of colour to be their selves . when you're online you want to see something positive that is going to uplift you or make your day right? The personality's that we see, come from the most controversial to the damn right silly to the artistic and free type. we have a quite alot to choose from so from here I'll give you my top 3 inspirational personalities such as Caleb city:
(Calebcity) He mixes his comical skills with his interest of Anime and gaming which will leave you cracking ! have a look at his recent work ;
https://twitter.com/CalebCity/status/908829825468469249
Renny an aspiring actor who has gotten the attention quite recently of Steve Harvey, P.Diddy and other Celebrities for his comedies, allways bringing something new to the table . If it be his step dad telling him he can't go out or the outtro music to unfortunate events followed by a loud "ahh man " and " damn son!" it's quite plain to see he is excelling in the media. have a look at one of his funniest sketches.

one of my favourites I follow is a woman called Marquita Nicole. She posts things that are mostly Artistic, raw and quite visual. no one on my list has this kind of character like hers . I appreciate what she posts as it is inspiring and also encouraging to see such raw talent and creativity. she posts visuals and also relatable posts and content regularly. here is one of my favourites;

and this one:
This October coming is going to be the biggest yet and you know what it does make me feel proud to be a young black women in this world. This quote from Toni Morrison just makes you want to get and just create the story of your life. "If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it." - Toni Morrison
The best part of black history is that it doesn't have to be just October, it can be all year round. we don't just win in October, we win everyday 24/7!
shine on !

Review: Christian Halls Vasion - All out War
Originally Posted: April 9, 2015
I was exposed to Christian Hall and his work through our Facebook Group. The first thing I noticed was Christian's talent at world building. This was not a work of a hack or someone trying to make a quick buck. There is genuine desire and passion for the comics medium on display. That desire weaves together disparate threads to create a world that was living, breathing and speaks to a story that deserves to be told.
The characters in this world are presented with flair and detail that invite you to explore further. I was intrigued by Mr. Hall's creations and proud of him for bringing his dreams into reality. This is something many of us talk about doing but don't put the work in or time to realize them.
I was invited by Mr. Hall to to checkout the first 3 issues of VaSion. The arc is titled All-Out War. The story is written by Christian and drawn by Nate Johnson. The story a fun ride. Mr Johnson specifically, puts a lot of energy into his art. The story flows well. The paneling keeps the story moving forward and the art style is reminiscent to Marc Gugganheim (Wolverine, Spider-man) crossed with a bit of Chris Bachalo (X-men, Generation X).
Diving into the story "All-Out War" describes the escalating battle between Enforce Council (an ancient race that lives within humanity while also acting as the protectors of humanity) and Devour, an unstoppable monster that has walked the earth for thousands of years. The battle gets very ugly and the writing is crisp and acts a perfect complement to the action developing on the page.
This storyarc is a popcorn affair and could easily translate to other forms of media. I could totally see a video-game, movie, or television series based on these characters and events. I look forward to more from Christian Hall & Nate Johnson and his development as a writer. I'm also to see more of the world he has created and the insanity and excitement within the sandbox he's created.
