Plague Raven making a plague doctor? Who would have thought?
Honestly though, this pattern hit all my aesthetic faves. Plague doctors, skulls, rats, hourglasses, monochrome. Absolute winner! It lives on my desk at work now and I've gotten many compliments :D

I wonder how Wallace felt when he woke up from the surgeries and saw his reflection for the first time.
I wonder how Howard felt, watching his victims die and wondering if he'll ever find the real Mr Tusk and when he can finally pass away.
I wonder how Ally felt, going to the zoo to visit her ex knowing one day she needed to move on.
I wonder how Teddy felt, knowing that they could've saved Wallace faster if he hadn't ignored his call in the first place.
I wonder how Guy felt, never knowing what drove the serial killer he searched so hard to bring down, with the only surviving victim unable to talk and practically feral.
I wonder how Wallace's family felt, if they were ever told what happened.
I wonder how Wallace felt, when he realised he had just been moved from one cage to another and that he might not ever get back to his old life.
#tusk 2014#angst#I know this is angsty and dark some of these questions have been plaguing me for ages#genuinely wishes we got more of Wallace's reactions on what was being done to him#how long did it take for Wallace to accept that he was in a zoo now#wallace bryton#howard howe#ally leon#teddy craft#guy lapointe

Yeah, alright, no. No don't this. I'll do you a few fucking better and teach you right here and now how to do this: You game? Blurb and lesson time. Got you. First up, a SPOOC. This is one technique that can be expanded (gonna give you examples too). WRITING LESSONS AHOY:
SPOOC = Situation, protagonist, objective, obstacles/opponents, climax/cost. So, when Frodo Baggins (protagonist) inherits the Ring of Power (Situation), he must set out on a quest to destroy it (objective). But, will he succeed when the forces of sauron and saruman unite and
try to reclaim the one ring and use its power to destroy Middle Earth (climax - cost if failure). This specific example is taught by Jim Butcher so if you want some weight behind it. There you go. It works. Want to know how to do a blurb? Practice, but check it:
Who is it? What's going on?
Why should we care?
What happens if the hero fails?
If you can, end on a snappy one liner or question. You can open on one too or a question like it.
What do shadows darting across the walls, cryptic writing, black fog, and a little girl who can see ghosts have in common? Paranormal investigator and soul without a body, Vincent Graves, has forty-four hours to find out. To make matters worse, his years of body-hopping and monster-hunting are catching up with him. He's losing his mind. An old contact has shut him out. To top it all off, something's skulking through an asylum, killing patients. Three guesses who might be next, and the first two don't count. The writing on the wall is not so clear. But one thing is: if he doesn't figure this out he's a dead man--well, deader--and a strange young girl might follow. Vincent's got his back against a wall, and that wall's crumbling. Some days it's not worth it to wake up in someone else's body.
That's Grave Measures - book two in my urban fantasy detective series. Who is it - covered. What's going on? Why should we care (the stakes to the protagonist and more). The costs. And the above.
It's not rocket science, and doesn't have to be.
Here's one from book three:
Don't make deals with the paranormal. They're better at it than you, and they never play fair. Paranormal investigator and soul without a body, Vincent Graves, did just that—a deal made in desperation. Now it's coming back to bite him in the middle of a case. He has 57 hours to investigate a string of deaths involving people who've made some devilish bargains. Too bad devils don't deal in good faith. It'd be easy enough, if he didn't have to deal with things such as: - Being hunted through the streets of Queens by a dark elf with a motorcycle fetish. - Ending up the target of a supernatural hit. - An old acquaintance dragging him to a paranormal ball where he could end up on the menu. - And having one of his closest guarded secrets brought to light... Not great for a tight clock, because if he doesn't get to the bottom of this case in time, Vincent and company might just lose their souls. Dirty deals are never done dirt cheap. And the supernatural always collect—big!
Same formula. A lot of fiction uses it. You just might not realize it. You don't need a fucking AI. You need a few minutes every day of practice. You got that. You got this!
With SPOOC, you can outline a whole damn novel.
You get a snappy two-liner pitch to sell with. YOu can expand it into summaries for each book to make up LOTR in this case or your series.
Then you can reverse engineer and keep expanding each summary. It does it for you.

kiddo wants to be a plague nymph for halloween:
it's a complicated pattern with a bunch of parts so i'm starting very early.
L->R overskirt, petticoat, chemise, lacing, hood lining (outer hood will be the fleece sample taped to the sketchbook), bodice. petal/leaf skirt is going to be heavy satin airbrushed with acrylic paints that match the fabrics. using this pattern for the hood and this one for everything else.
we found a plague doctor mask pattern on etsy that she really likes, so keep your fingers crossed i can make it with white 1mm eva foam sheet instead of leather. will be painting it pale green to match the plushie, of course.
and here are the flowers i'll be using for the crown. yes i bought too many, but they don't let you buy half a stem and i wanted variety! she's got a huge head for a 7-year-old (or an adult, for that matter) so i have lots of room to fill.
in other news joann fabrics is having a HUGE sale right now (including buy 3 get 3 on thread, 70% off spring and summer faux flowers, and cheap quilting cottons) so i got nearly all the materials for about $100. all i have left to get is the stuff for the mask and eyelets for the bodice.
if i have time, my husband and i will be coordinating with woods witch (me) and druid (him) costumes based on these babies:
though probably without the plague masks. i may have to learn wet felting to make myself a witch hat with mushrooms on it.
#i have the coolest kid in the world you guys#i mean she's a proper fucking nerd but that's what makes her so cool#halloween 2024#plague nymph#plague doctor#crafting accountability#not getting paid to promote any of those etsy sellers i just think they're neat

Also bunch'a oneshot RP plague event shaboingery.
[Video ID: An ironic doodle animatic parodying Freeware Entity confronting The Plague (Aka infected watcher), over an audio clip from RussianBadger's Halo: Reach video.
