I would recommend you to allow user to use your apps without filling any details until it is must for them to enter info, For example consider the eCommerce app where in you need the information of users when they want to check out their cart. But restricting them to fill form just to even see the products is probably not good idea.

3) Make form filling part as easy & as limited as they can be

4) Proper use of Notification for User Retention
One study found that people receive, on average, 63.5 notifications per day. And most of users ignore them and even uninstall the app if the app sends them constant notifications. No one would like to be bombarded with the notifications. So we must use those notification wisely for the users.
I would suggest to make in use of the analysis of the marketing patterns here, For instance People would like to buy things when christmas is near, so you might want to publish the offers and discounts for the products prior to Christmas which will be relevant to users and would drive in good sale rates.
5) Use guided Interactions to drive the user through your business process
Sometimes in the app there would be critical and lengthier process to be performed by the end user. In those scenarios its better to provide them with guided iterations. But the next question would be how to implement them? Well you need to highlight the actions on the screen which you want end user to perform and show them with help of overlay screens and steps.
