Music in the Loki series (2)

History is now

This song is written in the key of F minor. You know what other track is in the F key? The Green Theme, only in major. What I'm saying here is that "History is now" takes the main theme of the show and transforms it so that its initial tones remain the same, but through different lenses.

At the beginning of the show the Green Theme has all rights to be in major - but now, after everything Loki's been through? It makes sense that History is Now is in F minor. You can actually hear, at 0:40, how a variation of the Green Theme is playing but with grave, low notes and orchestra on the background, giving the epic feel of "this actually is the end."

2. ASCENSION!!!

If you haven't listened to that track yet, please do. It's awesome. That being said

It's so heavy and emotional because of the scene it corresponds with: Loki's ascension to the throne, his sacrifice, the denouement of this part of the story and the beginning of another: Loki as the God of Stories.

It is (I think) written in D minor (another minor key corresponding with an end). It begins with a bass note setting the scene and a few electronic notes carefully making their way as the music build up. It's a perfect introspection to Loki's feelings; it starts out as a thundering realization, but with every step he makes he knows it's the right thing to do for the people he loves and for everyone else.

At 1:40, the violas step in with a flowing variation of the main theme, once again keeping the core being of the character (the notes), but now entirely transformed (the tempo, the instruments used, the key signature).

Then, after a perfect moment of silence at at 2:16, the beat basically drops: we can hear a whole orchestra playing and a choir on the background. This is how the heroic sacrifice sounds like, and all the struggle of holding all of time and space in your palms, like Loki does.

After that epic section, the notes literally start ascending at the same time Loki does (about 4:00), resolving harmoniously with the note at 4:06. That, by the way, sounded really familiar. Again, I found a connection to Lokius (yes I'm making everything about that track, I listened to it way too much) - this part from Ascension corresponds with the lokius end at 2:37, you just have to listen closely.

But Ascension doesn't have a definite end - the pianissimo notes at the end still hinting at something more, a little hope for Loki to have on that throne.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's absolutely crazy about this :))

Pep: “Much-a better without-a that tower looming, you know?”

Pal: “Oh yeah, I heard ‘bout that… Always saw it, never been. What was that about anyway?”

Pep: “Not-a important… So, Palmira was it? Where from?”

Pal: (-don’t be annoying… don’t be annoying!-) “Ahh, gee Willy, born and raised here, family’s a bag of mixed nuts. A little bit of family from everywhere… Anyway! I’s not gonna bore ya with the details, but I think that’s where the pasta talent came from.”

Pep: “Ah, a pasta-chef eh? Gustavo mentioned your clothes-a were too fancy for a waitress.”

Pal: *wheeze* “Ha, ha! Yep! He guessed right! I’m more than a noodle nut, though!”

10 MINUTES LATER

Pep: “So fig, portobello, and mozza… I think-a maybe pancetta…”

Pal: (excited) “Ohhh good idea! What about something with Asiago?”

Noise: “AHEM!”

Pal: (startled) “YeeeSHIT!”

Noise: “You two making plans for coffee or something? The lady’s order is gonna be cold...”

FFFSSSH!

Pal: “Golly! SO sorry sir!”

Pal: (-Dumbshit. There you go yapping…-)

Pal: ??? “Nnnghhh…?” — GAAASP

Pal: (affectionate) HEY BIG BABY!

Pal: (quiet) “I just met ya and I already love ya… What a fabulous softy-soft!”

Gus: “That’s Brick! Glad you aren’t afraid!”

I didn’t want for things to get too hammy, but still The Noise briefly being an irritating ass pimple to Peppino had to happen.

This is where she introduces herself and there’s hinting to a slight improvement for Peppino after the Tower ate shit, but it’s not astronomical or something. Yes he’s still who he is, but I didn’t see reason to have any nonsense take place since she came in with no intent to cause trouble. Also, I can’t find any spec info (height, weight, etc) on canon characters for ref, but she is in between Gustavo and Peppino height-wise yet still a bit taller than Noise. I originally had her set for 5’4” (still really undecided), but she fit the role of a semi-petite comedic sugar-glazed Glumbby™️.

That last bit took quite a bit of coaxing (terrorizing) by a dear friend for me to include— a best friend whom I regret informing about a comment I received because my friend is a complete troll in favor of it. I was just gonna have her walk out and have her little mini-depression attack and not include Gustavo (clearly) being a little shit for the sake of it. It’s a subtle acknowledgment to satisfy the person who messaged wanting to see something (I truly still don’t get why, don’t even know what to think, but that was hilarious to see) between the characters. I also want to thank this game for getting me back into practicing the style of Preston J. Blair again, it brightens the regular dim day. Granted, I really need to work on the Squash & Stretch method more when it comes to expressions, they’re still too… idk, refined(?) for my liking. Not enough rubberiness and that pisses me off something unholy.

Other than that, hope it does the job, ‘cuz that’s all folks!

Get to Know Me :-)

Name: Lillie (but you can call me Lil). Fun fact: I’ve never really been a big fan of the spelling of my name because, being named after my paternal grandmother, I’ve always considered it the ‘old time’ spelling (it was popular in the late 19th century, dropped off for a while, and is very slowly making a reappearance). It’s taken me most of my life to warm-up to it, but there are still some days I don’t like it very much. I usually prefer to write my name in cursive; I feel it’s prettier that way.

Age: Now, don’t you know it’s rude to ask a woman her age?! LOL! I just turned the big 3-0 at the end of May. I know it’s not considered ‘older’, but I’ve had a lot of experiences in that time that make me feel like a good chunk of my life has passed me by. One of my main goals for this new year, however, is learning to let go of what I’ve lost out on and focusing instead of what I still have to look forward to.

Hobbies: I’m a real homebody, so I love writing; reading (I read a book a week, and I always read more than one); singing; watching movies/TV; can food be a hobby? Not cooking per se, just thinking about food? I admit . . . I have a problem . . .

Favorite Food: Pizza!!! (Pepsi, of course, has to go with it! Preferably Pizza Hut Pepsi!) Second favorite is anything to do with carbs. Albanese Gummies are a VERY close second, but it all depends on the day.

Occupation: (Does anyone else feel old using that word instead of just saying ‘job’?) Sadly, I’ve been unemployed since September 19, 2019, due to all my health problems – my NMO was only recently diagnosed on December 11, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. (No, I’m not weird for knowing the exact time. When the last few years of your life have been dedicated to finding out what’s been going on, you KNOW the time you finally got answers)

Dream Job: (Now, I can’t say ‘Dream Occupation’ – that just sounds so weird!) Because I’ve been unemployed for so long and have been off that whole schedule, my dream is just to be my own boss. I’ve tried for YEARS to find a job I can do from home (one, because of all my health problems and two, because of my baby girl (my cavapoo, Lucy). We all joke that she has separation anxiety and can’t bear to be away from me, but the same is true for me as well. With everything I have going on, she has been an amazing source of comfort and I’m just not ready to be separated from her yet. I think I would really like to be involved in writing of some type. Writing/journaling has really been therapeutic for me and a way to escape. Someday I hope to write a book or something and share everything I’ve been through.
