CHOMPY PLUSH IS FINISHED !!!!!!!!!!

oh my little tortoise son, I love him so much

I made him completely of my own pattern! which is the first time I’ve ever done that, at least for a sorta complex shape like he is, and I’m very proud of him 😌

He’s made entirely out of plush fleece, has some glass beads in his legs for weight, and I think is life sized too!

I think someday I’ll make another with darker colors, (the ones I was originally gonna do lol) and one out of minky fabric, and if those go well, I might make a couple more to sell :D

I needed to stop by the craft store to get some stuff for a school project, and I had the idea to try to remake Pix E.'s missing pajamas (and hair clips). They're a little sloppy, but I did my best. ^^'

Pajama materials include solid magenta and teal fabrics, yellow and turquoise paint markers, pink glitter tulle, and iridescent white glitter glue. I painted the stripes onto the pants fabric and the fireflies onto the shirt fabric, stitched on the tulle trim, smeared glitter glue onto the pants fabric to give it that nice sparkle, and sewed the outfit pieces together. The shirt is held in place with Velcro, while the pants are just pants. They're loose and prone to falling down, but that shouldn't be an issue as long as Pix is sitting. As for the hair clips, they're just Rainbow Loom bands held in place by G-clips.

So yeah. My work isn't perfect, but I'm proud of myself for at least trying.

(Also, Mittens Fluff-n-Stuff may or may not be joining my collection depending on how well I do on an upcoming high-stakes test. 👀)

For SEW, were there any alternate versions of the fic? (From the ask game)

Oooh, SEW (aka A Shadow, an Eon, and a Worm, my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon/Worm crossover). I do miss that fic...

So yeah, it actually has been through a few different versions! I can't talk about all of them, because some of them relate to the ending and that's not been written yet, let alone posted, but I can talk about a few. Going under a cut, because this got a lot longer than I expected it to.

The first big one is, of course, the fact that it was actually meant to be a snippet thread, and not a full on fic! I started it because of a Discord conversation, which I no longer remember the full context of but involved jokes of me (at the time using the alias of ShadowVulpix) and a friend (who goes by Eon and has a shiny Ninetales as a profile) being sent to the Worm universe for some reason. The original plan was three or four snippets, I think... the introduction piece, the Lung fight, the small interlude chapter involving Tattletale of the Undersiders, and then a piece that never got written that would involve the Brockton Bay Leviathan fight. Since this was posted on SufficientVelocity, aka a forum site, that worked alright; mini chapters for snippets didn't seem so odd. But then my brain kept writing, and writing, and we ended up with a full fic instead.

The second biggest one was actually a massive plot change; the original idea had Shadow and Eon taking the place of the protagonist characters from PMD: Blue Rescue Team, which is why early chapters have references to some bits of that plot... I think the most obvious one there is a line from chapter 2;

'“Our first exploration was an E Rank, in a forest, pix.” Eon deadpanned. “Of course it was easy for a pair of Fire types.”'

This got changed again not long after, with the plan being for them to be from PMD: Explorers of Sky instead, which was changed between chapters 2 and 3;

'...or the cave in Sharpedo Bluff.”

“I thought you liked Sharpedo Bluff.” Eon queried, seating himself at the base of a tree to watch her.

“I did . It was just kinda drafty, and a bit boring in there...'

And then the third and final change made them a completely new Rescue Team that was unrelated to either of the regions from those two games, which happened... I can't actually remember when for sure, but was before the Leviathan fight. Because of that there's a bunch of early bits that seem a little wobbly, and I had to work out how to link them into my plot plan without it being too weird or obvious; I think there's actually a few of them that I've not properly cleaned up, though I was going to do it in the future before the writer's block hit.

Let's see, what else... I think the last major one is one I need to be careful talking about, because it relates to some stuff that'll be coming up in future chapters (once the brain starts working again), but the part Taylor plays in the endgame of the fic got changed quite a bit due to a comment from one of the readers on SV. They mentioned that Taylor seemed to be getting sidelined compared to her team mates, which I had already noticed and planned to try and do something about, but that comment made me realise that I needed to do a bit more with it and also start it up sooner, which has led to a couple of other changes more recently.

Obviously there's been minor changes that I can't quite remember anymore, but I wouldn't really call those 'different versions' of the fic, just small redrafts. So I think that's everything! Wow that got longer than I expected it to... Thanks for the ask, and hope you enjoyed the look into my brain and this fic's development!

Years ago my friend offered to sew BJD clothes for me in a trade. I accepted because her dolls' clothes always looked great. She ended up forcing me to choose fabrics from her old worn out clothing and the stuff I received wasn't even a fraction of the quality of her dolls' clothes. I never got preview pix she just sent me the shitty pieces. This is why you never do business with friends. I was too afraid of hurting her feelings to complain. I regret it.

Internet of Shit hackathon: the hacks and the winners

There were 11 entries at the hackathon -- a lot of brightest minds of our generation working hard to make useless stuff!

[The Dialrhea project, see below]

Here are the projects in order of presentation:

1. “Burning pants”  -- a Neopixel/micro:bit wearable project by the olab.lt team. A nice and safe addition to one’s wardrobe when going to Kaunas Jazz Festival. They won the “Fire Means It’s Working” award!

2. "Baron Munchausen" by v. -- a very smart Raspberry Pi-based extension cord: the RasPi runs an Ethereum node with the Ethereum alarm clock service. The HDD stores 17GB of Ethereum blocks.

When the currency gained from running the service is not covering the electricity costs, the cord switches itself off using a relay. They were vying for the “something something blockchain” award, but at the end were awarded the “most hacker-friendly award (for least secure = most dangerous IoT device)”. Not because of any flaws in IT security (no default passwords here), but for the unshielded 220V wires sticking out of the project, making it the most dangerous IoS device around.

 The “I don’t know” team highlighted the topic of algorithmic prejudice, creating a “Value Gun" -- a racist gun that detects the colour of a person's skin and then shoots. Luckily, it didn’t really worked this way: an RGB-detector bought from China was a proximity sensor instead. Also it was network-connected and all the passwords were the default ones. The won the “This is Likely Illegal” prize (for the USA and LE people, that’s a toy gun, obviously).

The other fine folks from Riga hackerspace teamed up for two very well-received projects:

"Vape bucket" is a connected bucket with a hacked fog machine that lets you vape through it, controlled by Amazon Alexa. That was the idea, at least:  they didn' have a credit card, so voice control didn’t work: one could only chat with Alexa while vaping. The demo started with a leak of some vaping fluid. The default password is "password" in Latvian. It also has a startup on top of it (http://theexpresswaytopleasure.com/)

This foggy uncanny valley of a project won the “Shittiest AI (artificial idiocy) Solution” prize and was a serious contender for the main prize as well.

@hottiecamera by "Hottiecam", another project by the Riga hackerspace crew, is a hacked smoke detector alarming not the owner, but subscribers to the service when someone’s house is on fire. It tweets. It works even when electricity fails because show must go on. The speaker is disabled because if the owner hears the alarm, they can put the fire out and ruin the party. They were also considering selling those to nuclear power plants. This project, obviously, won the “Least Private On-line Gadget” prize!

"Dialrhea" is a next-gen human-computer interface device from old rotary phone. Pairs with any smart device and has special emoji/gaming modes of operation. Here’s someone playing DOOM on a large screen at the afterparty:

Its authors, being creatives/media people, even made a slick movie advertising this shitty product for shitty people. They won both the least shitty product consolation prize and the public prize!

@emojithinx by @seplute -- a tool to reduce the emotional labour in long-distance work communication. She wrote an emoji Twitter bot. It didn't have the :poop: emoji yet.

Mantas (of Porno Nest fame) collaborated with the best designers around to create an interactive punching bag. Sewing by Kazirka.

@kristina, @mn and Grete presented CNC-machined chocolate buttons which melt on your body, ruin your clothes and disappear. Laced with WD-40, coated with bronze spray paint. They won the Social Courage Award!

The CryptoSpätkauf project by @opit and @miceuz (with a lot of consulting by veox) is a smart contract service providing a means for people to share their liquor stash after hours. As the Lithuanian government tries to save the country from the spectre of alcoholism by introducing a barrage of restrictions and prohibitions, we showed that the street finds its own use for things. Our first Solidity project. Buggy as fuck.

Buttons that do nothing by Aistis and crew were a riff on connected button hype: it’s a panel with 16 touch buttons, shown on a live demo doing exactly nothing. There’s a "classic button", "a button swapped with No. 11", "inactive", "underappreciated", "non-radioactive", "why pay more", "swapped with #3", "harmful for nature", "unmarked" and many other buttons. You can press multiple buttons at the same time and they do nothing! This team won the Artisanal Piece of Shit Grand Prize!

Last but not least, the "Umbrella project" by another Mantas from Kaunas was a WiFi-powered charging umbrella with the latest technology that guys like Elon Musk really like to copy from Tesla inventions. A unicorn- and Kickstarter-material. They won the “Dead Unicorn (the lowest ROI solution)” prize, sponsored by the Brickwall startup decelerator.
