#2469 - Pittosporum crassifolium - Karo
AKA Stiffleaf Cheesewood, kaikaro and kihiki.
A fast-growing tree, up to 10m tall in ideal conditions, native to coastal areas in the northern quarter of Aotearoa, but now grown in other parts of the country, and widely in coastal areas worldwide. Easily propagated from seed, which has become a problem in some countries since the seeds are spread by birds.
The buds, fruit, and the underside of the leaves are covered in a fine grey fuzz, that protects them from windburn and salt exposure. It produces dark red highly fragrant flowers from August to October.
Cape Egmont, Taranaki, New Zealand.

Buy Plants Online and Get a Rewarding Shopping Experience
Purchasing plans online gives you access to the much wider choice of plants than what is available at your local plant nursery. You can also shop for the perfect plants for your garden right from the comfort of your home and in your own convenient time. When you buy plants online, it will give you ample opportunity to research and determine the suitability of plants for your location. In addition, you can also have the plants delivered directly at your door step, which not only saves your valuable time but also avoid dealing with a hectic transportation process.
Before purchasing plants online, you should go through the guarantee policy of the company that you are buying from. While a reputable online plants nursery can make an effort to ship healthy and high-quality plants, the plant may arrive in a damaged condition. So, understanding the company’s return policy related to defective and damaged plants before ordering will prevent inconveniences and misunderstandings in the future.
If you are able to choose the most reliable garden centres, you can get cheap plants online than the local nurseries. Most of the plant retailers will provide seasonal offers and free shipping when the minimum amount is purchased. All these aspects add to your savings and help you get the best possible products and fantastic deals.
How to choose the plants?
An online plant retailer will be serving a wide range of audience across the world and not all plants advertised on their website will be appropriate for your location. So, before you place any order, you have to make sure that the plants you are willing to buy can withstand the climate of your region. It is also necessary to check the pH level of the soil and pH requirements of your chosen plants. If you are not sure what to choose for your garden, it is worthwhile getting garden consultation from the experts.
Anyone shopping for online plants in Melbourne is not limited to what is available locally. Simply by browsing the internet, you are opened to the world of plants that you can choose from for your landscape. You are sure to get enjoyable, education and rewarding experience by shopping for your plants online.

#2578 - Pittosporum tenuifolium - Kōhūhū
AKA black matipo, kohukohu and tawhiwhi. The binomial translates as 'tarry-seeds' 'thin-leaves'.
An evergreen tree endemic to Aotearoa, growing up to 10 m in height, and growing in coastal and lower montane forests and scrublands over much of the country. I was a bit surprised to find it on the West Coast however, which is generally too wet for the species to do well. Thrives in disturbed areas, and widely cultivated in gardens. The flowers are usually dark red or dark purple, but not prominent, and are most strongly scented at night.
Widely used by the Māori, including many medical purposes, and the oils and resins for their fragrance. The branches have been used in ceremonies, such as welcoming visitors to a marae. Two of its common names, tāwhiri ("to wave to") and rautāwhiri ("to wave a leaf") refer to that use.
Greymouth, Aotearoa New Zealand
