Fanfic in which Jason is the only figuring out Percy might have a crush on Nico, just bc the guy’s practically glaring at him whenever he and Nico interact, while Nico is completely set on “Don’t be ridiculous Jason. I’m not liking this joke of yours”. The worse is that Percy doesnt seem to realize it either.

There’re 2 people in this relationship. Both are oblivious and somehow Jason’s the only one suffering. Wtf?

And then this time Jason’s mildly peeved (you would too if sb keep glaring at you when you totally do not deserve it) so he plans to maybe rile Percy up in hopes that the guy would figure it out. He did not follow his plan. Percy thinks he’s mocking him. He throws the punch. They fight. Nico arrives to see Jason with a broken nose and frets over him bc “for hades’ sake this is how u move on from the bricks?”. Percy is not happy watching it. Back to square one for Jason. Ha ha.

on signalis characters' voices (signalis spoilers!)

after playing signalis more than once and putting aside the overwhelming amount of feelings this game and its story can and will make one feel, it is easier to notice the more subtle details; e.g. enemies behavior, meaning behind documents and objects, and in this case, the characters' voices.

paying attention to the various living npcs you can talk to, one detail that stands out is that every character has a different tone of voice (similar to undertale).

i like to believe those sounds which accompany the text could represent what each character could sound like; one would expect, since replikas are basically copies, for them to have all the same voice.

well, that's not exactly the case.

here is a video with text and dialogues from all the npcs, without music to hear the "dialogue" clearly. (not all the dialogue is included, only one dialogue per character is present; except for elster as she does not like to speak much).

ACHTUNG: MAJOR SIGNALIS SPOILERS!

the dialogues are in chronological order:

-wounded star unit (STAR-S23?? is her name in the game files) in the aula before classroom 4C in floor B1, S-23 Sierpinski (elster included even if she has two lines);

-Isa Itou in the library, floor B1, S-23 Sierpinski;

-Storch Sieben (STCR-S2307) in the rationing office, floor B2, S-23 Sierpinski;

-EULR-S2312 (probably named Dezember given her number designation; eules in game like to use months as names, using the last two numbers of their designation as a reference) in the nurse station, floor B3, S-23 Sierpinski;

-Adler (ADLR-S2301), presumably in the elevator lobby in floor B4, S-23 Sierpinski;

-Arar (ARAR-S2318) in the vent below the Storch dorm in floor B8, S-23 Sierpinski;

-KLBR-S2302 in the library, floor B8, S-23 Sierpinski;

-Beo (MNHR-S2301) in the third room in the mines where monofilament stockpiles can be found, in the rightmost corridor.

-Ariane Yeong (and LSTR-512, still has an unbelievable amount of max two sentences at once) in the personnel room. floor B2, Penrose-512 (memory);

-Falke (FKLR-S2301) in her own room, found in Home.

you may ask, what purpose does comparing the "voices" serve? probably none, still i wished to know if they were the same sounds for every character or not.

here's what i could find out:

the majority of replikas have a different voice, with some exceptions:

-STCR and LSTR units have the same voice;

-as do STAR and FKLR units;

-a bit more expected, the gestalts npcs we see in the game (Isa Itou and Ariane Yeong) have the same voice.

now, for the fun stuff: by analyzing the frequencies which stood out the most in each "beep" from every character's voice, i could rank them from high pitched to low pitched ones.

again, has no purpose, but the result is actually delightful (to me).

here is the ranking:

pretty surprising, huh? i'd have wagered for isa/ariane to be in second place, followed by eules; also was expecting for arars to be just after the eules, and have behind them stars, then storches, then adler.

no one is surprised kolibri have the highest voices lmao, but mynah having an almost equally high voice was slightly unexpected but not unwelcome.

what's truly surprising to me is falke having the same voice as stars. i'd have expected something different tbh (stars being the lowest rank of protektors, etc etc, they're silly and stupid and crass; all things falke is not supposed to be).

elster having a deeper voice compared to ariane is the cutest thing ever! (as that post about them says)

that's probably the instance where you can notice the most that there is in fact a difference in most voices.

the funniest thing ever to me is that storches apparently have a higher pitched voice compared to stars, also arars having the deepest voice out of all replika is truly awesome to me (definitely fits).

here are to what musical notes the frequencies corresponded to, in the same ranking as before (visual rendering on a piano keyboard for fun i guess):

Seriously tho, who's idea was it to make the ship names like that?? I get it, it's really cute, but how tf am I supposed to find any blacksand art nowadays when most of what shows up when I search for it is just pictures taken on beaches with black sand?????? Couldn't we have at least done like the Lego fandom and tacked on "shipping" at the end of the tags? Like "blacksandshipping" or "frostbiteshipping" etc etc for each ship? I'm gonna make it a tag since y'all didn't

here are all the recs I posted for femslash february 2024...! each individual rec post can be found in my femslash feb recs tag. I actually thought I wasn't going to be able to do this because work got super chaotic, but in the end I couldn't bear to skip out on a leap year. that's a whole extra day for yuri.

last year I focused on official releases, so this year I wanted to focus on series that aren't technically officially available (plus a french-japanese film). fan translations are always a dicey for artists/translators/publishers/etc because obviously they need to get paid... but yuri's already such an overlooked genre that—in an official capacity—we end up with a couple drops from what's already a pretty small pool. I read hana to hoshi about a decade ago, and I keep submitting it to the seven seas survey for licensure! and yet!! no dice. and even when there are official releases, sometimes they just... disappear!? wish you were gone was licensed and then taken down, so for a while the only way to read it (if you missed out on buying it) was the fan translation. I think it's important to support artists and official releases, and also, to appreciate the thankless endeavor(/crime) of scanlation.

What about emu and her grandpa coming across ms Rui's scramble crossing drone show and stopping to observe with sparkles in their eyes. Coming up when it's over to praise him and ask about his drones with genuine interest that takes Rui off guard. Emu passing by the place more times to see if she'll see him again and becoming his regular spectator. Maybe emu n rakunosuke ask about the drones and ruis direction becsuse these inspired them to add something to pxl. Maybe emu randomly jumps in and joins one of rui's street performances because they seem fun and they're so original and she wants to help, and rui suddenly realises that it doesnt feel so alone and empty anymore

What about ms nene after her failed performance suddenly receiving a few flowers from tsukasa's bouquet for saki, who saw her crying on the street. Tsukasa putting on an impromptu show to cheer her up only to make her cry more because how does this random blonde kid have so much confidence to improvise a whole performance without hesitance while she just messed everything up. What about tsks giving nene a plushie for comfort ("if you can't talk, just imagine it's the plushie talking, not you!"). What about tsks having nene over at home sometime and finding that the silence isn't so deafening when theres another voice singing along to your piano notes

No concrete ideas for ms emunene but i just think there's other fun scenarios to imagine!

atlas may is the reason i cannot sleep.

was reading lackadaisy w my partner and he brought up the fact atlas looks so scary. to which i said RIGHT??? right… he does look scary. not to mention him being completely decked in various shades of grey— everything about him is so ghastly. but that’s not exactly why he brings me to sleepless nights, oh no no.

how can i simply go to sleep when all i think abt his how atlas’ presence is nowhere to be seen yet also… everywhere at the same time.

i come home from work to talk to his picture on my ipad and just scream: WHAT IS YOUR DEAL!??@!>?!?

i am not above pulling out the forbidden ghost board to contact this fictional cat man.

and i cant help but think the same throughout that flashback when viktor and mordecai raided the cabin. which atlas appeared briefly, not saying a single word. nothing. even in ingenue, the only time we had a semblance of character was him cracking a grin to ruby. that was all to it.

but that’s also why he’s such an interesting character. him and viktor have this similarity where they exude personality without uttering a single word.

his name parades through most of the character’s dialogue and his existence thrives through the other character’s motivations (e.g. mitzi and mordecai) i also can’t help but to think that everything he’s “done” was by proxy through everyone else’s actions.

at first i thought, atlas feels like a shadow. no… quite the opposite!! after everything, i feel like everyone else is his shadow. even beyond the grave he lives on throughout the series.

plus:

i have seen more of this man’s back than my own family. it’s insane. like okay mister mystery!!! come out come out

my two cents on Horikoshi's end notes, and the fandom moving forward.

I know that other bakudekus and myself are #Going Through It™️and we want to be able to wash our hands of an ending we don't feel gives us emotional closure, especially when it comes to Kacchan's arc and their relationship. (I vacillate between seeing it as bittersweet with tints of hope and heartrendingly depressing and an absolute gut punch)

But I feel like a lot of us are jumping to conclusions and conspiracies way too quickly. When Hori says "he's turning off the camera and releasing them from their dramas" he's saying that he's not going to put them through another story. "their dramas" being the trials and tribulation and arcs that they went through over the course of the series, he's letting them off the hook and won't be putting another arc in the story. And, though he may refer to himself as the camera man, turning off the camera is just kinda a normal phrase to mean that the story is over, what ever happens now is up to our imaginations.

Now, I get why we are upset by this, ignoring canon wasn't how we got to be bakudeku shippers. Almost until the very end with very few hiccups, Kacchan and Deku's relationship was the most impactful and compelling one in the series, it grew and changed and blossomed in ways that only made the emotional resonance and investment stronger. They were each others most important person, to the point of insane unhinged acts of devotion, and their relationship was the driver of most of the stories major themes. it's not hard to see the appeal, even without shipper goggles (I legitimately only read the manga for the last 2 years when something bakugo or bakudeku related happened, that's how much this part of the story compelled me)

So, it really sucks to feel like we've been let down, when it felt like we had already made it to the end. I know I will always cherish those 5 months of canon compliant fluffy bakudeku fics and fanart after the first ending. It really felt like we had won in a way.

It sucks that now the last piece of canon we have is giving ammo to people who wish to belittle, hate, and judge us for our investment in, and interpretation of, these characters and this story. And, that all subsequent fan works will be colored by this development of the story, in a way that definitely shifts it in more angsty tragic direction. that this is the final note we leave off on sucks, even if we chose to ignore it, because not everyone will.

That sucks.

BUT, we can still ignore it.

We don't need it to not really be canon.

We don't need Horikoshi's permission to ship them, even now.

We have 400+ chapters of manga, side stories, anime, music, canon content that supports the bond and relationship that we love and hold dear, so much material to continue to interpret, and remix, and adapt, and transform from. so many moments, big and small, that can't be taken away by one chapter.

I know endings tend to re-contextualize things, but we can imagine a timeline that's different, that we like better or think is more compelling, or more fun, or just different. we can imagine 100 different timelines, all diverging from different points, filling in different gaps, and making new paths forward.

I know we're all coping, that our hearts are hurting, but I also see so much strength, and resilience, and creative energy, and love.

The cameras aren't rolling anymore.

Now, WE get to decide what the future for these characters will bring.

And I know we'll give them many many good ones

I'm normal anyway. He doesn't realize it himself until after his duel with the WOL but coming to the warrior of lights rescue and helping them fight the Endsinger is actually the most alive Zenos feels in his whole entire life. It's the reason why he looks sad rather than happy after their fight and why he reaches out for them and ultimately wishes for them to live. The thing that made him feel alive (Even back in Stormblood.) was the feeling of having someone he could related to, and someone he could consider a companion, someone he could trust with his feelings and thoughts. And he doesn't realize this until it's too late.
