finally getting around to Bronwen Dickey's Pit Bull today via audiobook, which I've been meaning to read since it came out.

More than anything else, post-Embark me is meditating on my experience as a "pit bull owner"--from twelve years with Tribble, who was read as a pit mix with plausible deniability for almost her entire life but turned out not to be one, to two with Benton, who is never successfully pegged as a pit mix but is more American Bully than anything else (~50%). (Tribble lived with me in apartments for half her life, so that plausible deniability was very important: it was hard enough to find housing as a renter with a dog over 15 pounds as it was without tangling with BSL lists.)

So much about "pit bull" ownership is really much more about how people perceive your dog than it is the dogs themselves.
