Fun Little Merlinverse Language Headcanons

Ok, so we know most of our Merlins are old af, and that most of them have the patience of saints so they usually don't get genuinely pissed off. But could you imagine how funny it would be if they started cussing in 'old' languages when they do snap? Except the languages they use are just normal languages irl.

Like I can so picture Sena seething at someone in Hindi but still keeping composed, only to snap and absolutely drag them in Tamil (like it is a good thing no one understands him otherwise they would not be able to look him in the eye afterwards). Or if he wants to pull the Divine Judgment card in more serious/formal moments he starts calmly lecturing them in Sanskrit putting every ounce of his godly authority behind each word (I think in that moment everyone would understand exactly what he's saying despite not being able to identify individual words).

Meanwhile Celestino (@meepinmeat) just takes a deep breath before slowly but purposefully reading someone to filth in old Latin. People might not understand the words, but they definitely get the gist when they can feel static crackling through the air due to the Archon's rage. ("Well, mark me down as scared and horny"- Valen, probably.)

And imagine everyone's surprise when soft-spoken little Pirin (@yohohonabottle) goes from irritable bat chattering to absolutely intense Slavic cussing, looking absolutely ready to curse someone's entire bloodline as he yells at them in Bulgarian. (Considering how terrifying Pirin's curses actually are, I cannot blame Val, Sinbad and Soren for being terrified of their little bat in that moment.)

As for Magister Starhawk (@fujimomozane), this man looks like he slays so hard. So I can't help but picture him being calm and collected before muttering the most horrendously accurate and specific insults possible under his breath in Ukrainian. (Though Chippy and Hammie were not expecting the magister to very vehemently tell a table to have a stroke after he stubbed his toe.) (Ps, please correct me on this one if I'm wrong. I've heard a friend explain it once irl and I thought it was really funny and in character for Starhawk.)

Meanwhile Korin and Damian are hiding behind Molpe (@mcnana) as she cusses someone out in Spanish for insulting her boys. Like they appreciate the gesture, but they are also absolutely shook considering that she's normally very sweet and soft-spoken. (Imagining Korin covering Damian's ears for this one. Like he doesn't know what's being said, but from Molpe's tone he knows a child probably shouldn't be hearing it.)

Please reblog this with your own Merlins! I'd love to hear your takes. (Especially @magister-violyste and @msbiaxalblanc, since Violyste is fairly young by Merlin standards, and Bellarose is fairly aloof and put-together. Also, Magister Zelda (@fgfirenation) clearly has no problem cussing, but I'd love to hear your take on her going completely feral on someone.)

Merlinverse Wheel Interactions - Collection Post

I was bored, so I spun the wheel a couple of times. I actually only ignored results I already had, but removed options later on to get more variation. I haven't consulted anyone and just went from vague memory, so lemme know how badly I am off the mark. xDDD

Lavinia attempts to play matchmaker for Zelda

I believe we had this scenario before, where Zelda is playing matchmaker for Lavinia, when she learned that Zelda actually has en ever so small thing for a certain rabbit. 

But truth is... I think Lavi is a rather bad matchmaker. At least in terms of taking action to get them together. She is much rather having long talks with Zelda about when and how and possibilities of outcomes, never failing to encourage Zelda to do whatever is needed. Although, she might also be one to STOP the magister from doing something entirely headless. Since Lavinia's bound to Holistone in service, she'd not often have the chance to actually meet and talk to Lorsan. But since Lorsan is traveling, he might actually drop by and then when he does, Lavi is definitely observing VERY HARD and trying to see what he thinks about Zelda.

So yeah, rather than orchestrating things, she's gotta do the observing and spying and information forwarding. xD

Lavinia learns a new skill from Zelda

Uhm, so the standard answer is, of course, that any Merlin will one way or other, show Lavi how to deal with the left-over Hypogean magic within her. So the definite "feeling" of magic in and around herself, the certain things one can do to ease stress related to that, actual little spells and so on.

On another note, Zelda is such a powerhouse and crazy creature... that I feel like it would be so silly and cool if Lavi learned something as beautiful, delicate and soothing as sand mandala creation. Or like making small pottery creatures. Or making jewellery? xD Anything that's a little unexpected and shows Zelda's warm and caring side. Maybe it's crocheting? Felting? Well, origami, at the least!

I am not sure what this means, to be honest. It sounds more like teasing to me... and in that case, I gotta move forward in time a little bit. Lavinia and Sena are comfortable with each others presence now, not least due to Valen, and there may have been little squibs from one to the other before. But for more lengthy banters, I think Lavinia's firstborn is the perfect reason. xD

Shall the kid have this or that to wear? Can it have tea and why couldn't it be wrapped up in a sock rather than a blanket? Can it be levitated around the Mystical House and climb up the towers made of books? Bedtime is when again and what bedtime story to read? And so on and so forth. <3

Lavinia teaches a new skill to DK

Ah, oh no, I don't think Lavi can teach ANY Merlin a new skill. xD At least certainly not in terms of magic. And what other skill might she be able to show to DK? Probably something incredibly boring... like a useful knot for tying things up. Maybe that knot turned out essential later on when DK needed it on Sinbad. xD Or maybe DK likes the nuts Lavi sometimes brings to the Mystical House not knowing that they have simply been soaked in water over night. Or maybe the same memory trick Lavi taught Molpe, given Merlin has an issue with forgetting things. xD

Well, naturally the first thing that comes to mind is Valen. And that's not gonna be all too exciting, since they have the SAME opinion about him. xD BUT, given the difference in universe, they would probably be quite interested in the subtle differences of the Valens.

Alternatively, if it's CelVerse Lavi, then she'd be just friends with Valen and the three of them have, given her experience etc, a VERY in-depth discussion about the Heroic Order! And subsequently the Celestials and their role against the Hypogeans and whether they might not also be required to help "Esperian" problems.

Lavinia fights/spars with Celestino

Since Celestino is a Merlin, whether Lavi is from CelVerse or her own, the fighting is training in regards to her Hypogean powers. Not that Celestino would have to really break a sweat, though, it's all basic routine stuff. And yet, sometimes, he might make it extra tough for Lavi, not only forcing her to use her magic but also still the sword to win. And I don't see a reason why he wouldn't be able to drag Dionel into the ring, too. "Must I really, son?" and "Yes, really, or do you want to risk her ending up corrupted and on the other end of your spear for real?"

Not. xD Ahahaha, while they probably have a good relationship and can easily sit together with tea and cookies after training sessions etc, Lavinia is still too impressed and careful in what she does around Rose. Playing matchmaker? I don't think she'd allow herself to. That doesn't mean she'd not be interested and observing from the sidelines, to witness any developments. And if Rose ever confided in Lavinia, she's happily try to help in word or action (although she'd always feel silly for "setting anything up").

Oh boy, you know what? Maybe THAT would be something Lavinia isn't embarrassed to do for Rose in terms of matchmaking. I don't actually know who Rose might have a crush on, but this dance would definitely be the perfect excuse to then go and ask her crush, too! Whether a confession follows, I don't know... but at least Lavi's done something for Rose to have a good time. <3

Aww, that would be so adorable! I don't think there would be anything special about the situation, but Lavinia has a way to pay actual attention to children and thus be perceived as a "nice lady" by them. Or on some cases, a lady to be reckoned with, not unlike Valen. Either way, Molpe probably lost her way or something, and Lavinia takes responsibility as a knight and delivers her back home. Getting her treats along the way, of course, and talking about her favourite games to play. xD

Hmmmm, this could be somewhere on the job, of course, a professional matter, if you will. But maybe it would be more something in relation with Hogan. xD Maybe there is no such thing as marriage for them, but let's assume there would be something akin to it, a special celebration, an anniversary, you name it... and since Lavinia is just part of Hogan's family and work, she might be asked to help with that. And then, to help Vi prepare, am sure Lavi would help her remember dances again. After all, Vi can't possible say no to Hogan when he asks, and you bet, he WILL ask. <3

The Knave's ''animations''

1) One of Arlecchino's idles in res hall is him summoning little warblers (see "Secret, can you keep it?") and look at them perched on his finger/in his palm with this expressionless look. Maybe tiny hint of mournful/fond/pensive for a split second--Then curls his hand into a fist, the bird turning to magic dust that scatters out through his fingers upward and fades. As he turns back to the screen with his idle full-body pose.

2) Standing in that pose as in the picture above, but his eyes glance at the fire phantoms (similar to those in Arlecchino's boss fight trailer, fire-shadows with their hands over their chest and holding scythe?) that slowly emerge behind his back from him (like some dementors in a way) and he dispels/dismisses them with a wing, eyes closing as if in pain/agitated and looks back at the screen with his resting face.

What his summons kind of look like/idea-

The Knave's voice-lines

Deploy: "Noted." (Emotionless cold)

Upgrade: "Hm." (Contemplative but not ungrateful. Just not huge reaction/enthusiasm)

Ultimate: "Witness my rise." (Like how Arlecchino says it. It's almost a rough growl in a low voice, that tapers to how Berial sounds in his ult)

Defeated: "Another...cycle.." Previous defeated line "I will..come...back.." Victory: "What's our next objective?" (clinical again.)

First Recruitment: "Name your contract."

1 "You have something to say? Go on. You have my full, undivided attention." (With his back to you, arms folded behind his back and tail on the ground and curled around his feet a bit. Then glances at the Player slightly over his shoulder as he crosses his arms, expectant and still waiting for you to speak up. Then his tail-tip gives a single tap on the ground as he sighs through his nose -suppressed sigh- and turns around to face the screen to assume his idle pose.)

Merlinverse Interactions Game

Hey, y'all! So I had an idea for a fun little community-building exercise for the Merlinverse, just to help us all interact and get more familiar with each other and our OCs.

Basically, this link will take you to a site where you spin two wheels, one with an interaction prompt and the other with the name of a Merlinverse OC. You can then either make a post about how you think the interaction will play out (can be a short-fic, drabble, general thoughts, headcanons, whatever you want), or you can chat to the creator of that Merlin and have fun discussing the idea with them (you don't have to post a summary of the Merlins' interaction, but I think it'd be fun to see). You can participate even if your Merlin isn't on the wheel, though if you'd like them to be added feel free to reach out.

"Bickering" (Or, just a game of broken telephone.)

My post for the Merlinverse Interaction Game! Well, well, well. The wheel said it's verdicts, and who am I to deny it? Down Under -Under the Covers, Vol III is a nice background tune for this ramble. ||> Prompt: Playfully argues with....Sena @bunnybird-afk

I wanted to do a full-fledged fic for this one, but looking at my art + writing que....yep. So I'll just use this as a sort of quickpost/concept notes thing for possibly later use instead. Now where was I?

Ah yes, Pirin and Sena ''bickering''. It's probably more of an Edward Elric moment really. Vanya just keeps constantly reminding his friend and Patron that no, he's in fact, not a child nor youngling. But we all know his youthful looks and short stature really don't help his objection arguments here. Or even less how his voice isn't deep as expected of a man by traditional standards, for the matter.

Now add in him giving an angry deadpan like, just a blank 'what did you just say?' stare with veins popping and then going off like--

"Who're you calling a child?! I'm a century-old midget not a damn child!" It's all there- The angry frantic gesturing as in the pic above, the raised tone which somehow sounds more shrill like a seagull's screech or that of a warbler, but angry- And Sena's just... chill. Watching all of this with amusement, like an old grandpa or Elder/Sage, and this huffy-screechy bat is a lil kid having a silly fit.

"You're still a young immortal in my eyes." Cue another 'Edward Elric' TM outburst now in 100% bat which doesn't make matters better at all. "Fine! Since I'm a '''''child'''', then you're an Old fart, Gramps!" (But the vitriol has nothing to do with legit malice.)

"Mind your language with your Elders, child." :) "MALAK! For fuck's sake!" ("...do I really have to cast nightmares and go apeshit to be taken seriously?") >:( /|-_-| "No." :D

.... Later, the two having a chat or just hanging out- And somehow Sena calls Pirin a child/youngling again. The faces he makes, as Berial joins in on the 'bullying'. (Bonus points for the rest of the squad also playfully joining in, in their own ways.)

Match-maker! (?) - The Merlinverse game

This was supposed to go on my main blog not here! ...I mean a Valen is mentioned & talked about--But it's not the Missing! ;-;') Welp too late now, don't have the heart to copy all this and move it to main blog so here we are. Sorry Wind! My post for the Merlinverse Interaction Game! and welp today I'm taking a really quick crack at it. Assuming I don't somehow turn it into an analysis or full-fledged fic. |> Prompt of the day: Attempts to play matchmaker for... Lavinia @windmaedchen

Okay, so Pirin playing (or trying) to play match-maker for Lavi. Honestly he already knows well whom the woman loves, she needs no match-making. But that said, I can see the Mather of the Merlinverse and as a whole, play wingman.

Slip a little vague but sweetly romantic note to both Valen and Lavinia, anonymously under a different alias/pseudonym. Something like a wee mini ARG or 'treasure hunt' with riddles that are puzzles only the two of them would get. (References, inside jokes, their memories being the key/answer to the riddle and it's always two-way that matches. So it's impossible not to be solved and not match, yet still keeping them from bumping into each other and spoiling the surprise.)

And all those little breadcrumbs lead to--Is the one spot the two first met and fell in love. The whole treasure hunt has been a kind of trip to memory lane, a pilgrimage of their history and returning to the start/roots. The last clue there, hinting at them being each other's treasure. And a small gift from "All-Mather"- Two pebbles that have been drenched in his blood to infuse a chunk of his magic into them. His blessings- Luck, good health, regeneration & healing regardless of ailment/pain and its severity. And calm, clarity so that they can react adequately even under the highest stress- Blessings of his bloodline, the Eclipse.

Two pendants, that when put together form one whole heart. And one smaller, for their son. Both pieces of jewelry able to be worn around the neck so they don't get lost/misplaced/forgotten somewhere somehow and aren't big stones to catch/pull unwanted attention- Can be hidden under the collar/clothes easily. The Maulers often refer to this kind of stone as Night Jinni's bloodstone. And a night nymph's magic can grant one's most heartfelt, sacred wish. After that, all the magic gets used up to grant that wish, and the blood evaporates away. The stone back to a regular one.

And it's possible that The Fair Gentleman, newest cryptid to join the Guardian cryptids lot, has been tasked to write the riddles. With the help of the Damoiseau also commonly known as "Tyr/Odin" besides "Blind prophet'', given he's the most cryptid with his words. So if some of the riddles had a mildly prophetic to prophetic flair and tinge to them plus Sphinx? Then that was the Damoiseau Mauler at work.

Arle simply, most likely, left a playing Joker card somewhere. If prompted to join in putting together the treasure hunt or got curious then invested into it. In fact, the Knave probably helped the Fair Gentleman to stay undetected/unnoticed plus not get caught.

(Aand yup. I did it again.) The "All Mather" is a joking reference to Odin, and Pirin being the mother & father to the Merlinverse, the different timelines and in general + accidentally adopting/taking under his wing.
