== Disability Pride Month ==

Did you know July is Disability Pride Month? I know many of our crewmates are disabled and so I wanted to highlight this pride month in honor of them. Below is a wonderful video by ChronicallyJenni on instagram. I'm including the transcription of the video as well below. Found via the lovely @a-little-revolution here on tumblr.

"It's July & that means it's Disability Pride Month! But what actually is DPM?! I didn't know until a few years ago either so here's the run down!

Disability Pride Month was born out of the disability rights movement in July 1990 to commemorate the passing of the Americans with disabilities act (ADA). It has since become a global celebration, as well as an act of protest in order to campaign for the world to be more inclusive of disabled people. The first Disability Pride Parade in the UK was held in Brighton in 2016. Whilst we love our LGBTQIA+ friends & community members, #DisabilityPrideMonth has nothing to do with LGBTQIA+ Pride, they just happen to be next to each other.

The 3 main goals of Disability Pride Month are: ✨ To change the way people think about & define disability. ✨ To break down & end the internalised shame felt by people with disabilities. ✨ To promote the belief in society that disability is a natural, beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride.

All of these things are so incredibly important & change needs to be made in wider society in regards to ableism, accessibility & representation. Especially as being disabled is one of the only minority groups anyone can find themselves in overnight. Things are improving but I long for more disability representation in the media & in governance.

It's taken me a long time to discover my self worth as a person with a disability. And, don't get me wrong, being disabled is really tough But my disability has made me stronger, more resilient , more adaptable & has helped me find myself and the things that are important to me in a way I wouldn't have experienced otherwise. It's also helped me find the most incredible friends & community across the world.

I am disabled and I am proud." Happy Disability Pride Month Lovelies! I hope you have many many good days <3

Before I pass out for the night, I have another AU proposition for yall.

AHKJ Pirate AU!

I have been listening to The Wellerman sea shanty too much lol.

But basically, in this AU UKJ proposes that prince Julien ventures off to find a new island to colonize for the kingdom. Julien is 100% keen, and wrangles together a team of would-be sailors as his crew.

And to make sure Julien's gone for good, UKJ hires a team of pirate mercenaries to take him out. One of these pirates happens to be Pancho.

Pancho and his crew launch their attack on Juliens fleet, but when Clover and the others put up more of a fight than they bargained for Pancho's crew abandons him (Andy never changes). Clover is keen to make a brutal example of him, but Julien admires the crowned lemur pirates sailing skills, and chooses to rather force him to join them and navigate/sail for them. This is much to the chagrin of Mort, who even as the Dread Pirate mostly gets ignored by Julien.

Pancho joins willingly, but to him this is an excellent way to still finish is his job. Under the pretense of navigating them to a bountiful promise land, he keeps purposefully leading them through dangerous terroritories. Mort can tell they are being led astray, but Julien refuses to listen to him. Julien also loves the danger, all he sees is fun, adventure, and legendary victories that will make him go down in history. Clover and Maurice try to tell him something about this seems off to them too, but Clover, in spite of her better judgment, is also loving these daring and violent adventures. Krakens? Ghost ships? Sirens? She loves it, as much as she tries to hide it.

Of course, Pancho's going to have a change of heart as he finds the loyal family he's always wanted in the prince and his new friends, more priceless than any reward UKJ could offer him. There's drama, but he's forgiven in the end.

I just desperately want the leems to sing sea shanties together, with naval outfits and pirate gear. Picture Pancho with ear piercings and an open peasant shirt! And a scimitar!

Also I want them to sing The Wellerman song and The Rocky Road to Dublin. 🥺 Willie starts humming a tune they find familiar, and Pancho, Horst and Ted join in until the whole crew is singing and Julien's like 8D because this is exactly the sort of fun he's always wanted for his people without his uncle getting in the way.

Also loving the thought of Julien paying for a captain to sail for them, only for something like this to go down.

Captain: *stops Clover, Dorothy and Becca from getting on board* Oh no, this ain't part of me contract. Tis bad luck te have females aboard a ship.

Clover: Oh! So sorry, let me just- *immediately decks this guy in the face, launches him into the next century* How's that for luck, fucking- *goes off in a colourful tirade*

Julien: Nice one Clover, RESPECT. But also, eh, HELLO? We needed him!

Mort: I can help your majesty!

Julien: Who said you could come?!

Pancho and Migue, famous Pirate Captain Buccaneers who have traveled all over the seven seas, inform all hands hoay that the EcuPer Week (aka Peru/Ecuador week) is on sight!

Fate has brought us together again. Well, actually, EcuPerWeek and pirates brought us together. So, heave ho and mark the dates, for the scuttlebutt from the old salt says that this year we set sail on the high seas at the kraken of dawn from the 21st to the 27th of October, 2021.

The aforementioned dates have been selected in order to remember the special moments that have been marked down on the Cap'n journal, including parley that was part of our Pirate law. Let us not forget that on the 26th we splice the Mainbrace as celebration of the peace amongst our crews.

Mars has been a fan of rum since his days growing up in Hawaii.

It seems like every celebrity has a tequila brand these days, with The Rock, LeBron James, and Nick Jonas all jumping into the world of agave spirits over the past year or two. But for multi-talented pop star Bruno Mars, it has always been about rum. After SelvaRey came onto his radar a few years back, he knew immediately he wanted to get involved with the brand and is now a co-owner and creative director helping to guide its global vision.

Up until now, SelvaRey consisted of two premium expressions—a white rum that has been aged and then charcoal filtered, and a chocolate-flavored expression. Both are single estate rums produced in Panama by master blender Don “Pancho” Francisco Fernandez. He has been a “maestro ronero” (or master rum maker) for five decades, initially in his homeland of Cuba and since the ‘90s in Panama. Fernandez oversees the entire operation, which is notable for employing sustainable practices like eschewing chemical pesticides and reducing its carbon footprint by recycling waste as fuel and fertilizer.

There have been some changes to the brand recently, including an updated bottle design and the addition of the aged, ultra-premium Owner’s Reserve expression. For this brand-new release, Mars worked closely with Don Pancho, who selected 15- to 25-year-old rum to blend together into a flavorful sipping spirit. Notes of banana, brown sugar, tropical fruit, and oak mingle together on the palate, followed by a long, lingering finish. Owner’s Reserve ($149) is now available in limited quantities.

Mars talked to Departures in an exclusive interview about the new Owner’s Reserve rum, how he got into the spirits business, and what some of his favorite cocktails to make at home are.

Over the past few years, it seems like tequila has been the spirit of choice for celebrities to get involved with. Obviously, for you it was rum. Why?

I met the founders of SelvaRey about seven years ago, after I was sent their white and chocolate rums. The rums had won a bunch of awards. They tasted like tropical luxury, like being transported on a vacation. I started having the rum shipped to me regularly, and over time built a great relationship with Seth [Gold] and the founders. I knew they had something special so I came on board to bring whatever magic I could to help build this world. But really, the best thing about this is that you can take me out of the equation and the rums are still award winners.

What was your experience and familiarity with rum back when you started the brand? How much did you know about the category and were you always a rum drinker?

Growing up in Hawaii, rum was what I was most familiar with—mai tais, rum punch, mojitos, piña coladas. I’ve had phases of getting into different cocktails and spirits, but rum has always been my go-to.

Was launching an ultra-premium expression like Owner's Reserve part of the plan from the beginning? Were you personally involved in selecting the rum that would go into the blend?

Honestly, it wasn’t part of the original plan, but I was very involved. It was something I wanted us to develop because dark, aged rums are my favorite. I knew what I wanted. It had to be not just the best, it had to blow other rums out of the water. Thankfully, our distiller in Panama is a genius. I asked Don Pancho if he could make something like that for us. We went through a bunch of versions and landed on the Owner’s Reserve. It’s the greatest rum I ever tasted. It needed to be something that would impress the biggest rum or even whiskey and tequila experts. But at the end of the day it just had to taste delicious. And it does.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of high-quality rum?

To me, the beauty about being in the spirits category is that it’s very yes or no. It either tastes good or it doesn’t.

How did your relationship with Don ‘Pancho’ Francisco Fernandez come about? Were you familiar with him as a rum maker before you started working together?

My relationship with him came from meeting the partners at SelvaRey, who had worked with him to develop the white and chocolate rums. They told me who he was. His story is incredible. He’s the real deal.

What are some of your favorite rum cocktails to make at home?

Rum and ginger ale is the easiest way to get the party started. When I want to show off, I make a mean piña colada. And when I’m hosting serious VIPs, they get treated to a mango colada, but only in mango season… obviously.

What are your hopes for 2021, both personally and for the growth of SelvaRey?

I hope non-rum drinkers are ready to jump on this rocketship with me. And to the rum drinkers out there, ask yourself, why would you buy rum from a pirate when you can buy it from a player? Insert sassy sparkle emojis.

Been playing Sea of Thieves and it makes me yearn for my Pirate!Pancho au so damn hard. And his fear of sharks is so well founded the megaladon is not to be fucked with.

Where did you get your Nnoitra doll? I saw your tags about getting a Grimmjow doll too? Where are they sold? Hope it's okay to ask!

     [ Of course it’s totally okay to ask! The only reason why I wanted to get a doll in the first place, is because I can hardly draw anymore. Making visual art of Nnoitra has always been something that’s been important to me ( the way I got into his character was by drawing him after all ). It was making me feel really down, but then I came across the idea of getting a doll to take photos of instead. There are no figures of Nnoitra (that I’ve seen), so getting a BJD ( ball-jointed-doll ) seemed like the best option for me.

     My Nnoitra bjd isn’t an official “Bleach Doll” or anything like that. He consists of two different parts. An Immortality of Souls head ( sculpt: Chaos ), and a Doll Legend body ( 70cm ). The most important part of the doll in my opinion, is the head, so when I found a head that I thought looked like Nnoitra, I was super happy! The body is not ideal though. In fact, I only bought it because it was on sale and cheap(er) than most other bodies. Once I find a more accurate body ( less muscles, skinnier neck ) I will be buying that. I’m also going to buy Fifth Motif gesture hands, because those fit him perfectly!

     It took me two years to complete the Nnoitra bjd. It took 7 months for the body to be made ( most bjds are hand-made ), and 2 months for the head. Then both body and head had to be sent to a painter to get customized paint. This took over a year, thanks to the artist being incredibly unprofessional. I didn’t get the tattoos I wanted on Nnoitra’s body so I’m kinda pissed about that. In addition his eye-patch had to be custom made as well. I also had to buy eyes and a wig + clothes. A lot of work and a LOT of money spent!

    My ( future ) Grimmjow bjd - He’s going to be a hybrid of a Granado head ( sculpt: Pancho ) on an Impldoll body ( 65 cm ). I’m assuming this doll will be even more expensive than Nnoitra, because of the customized wig, eyes and not to mention the scars! I have no idea how long it’ll take to finish him.

     My advice if you want to get yourself a specific character as a bjd? Be prepared to spend a LOT of money! ( also, when you’re looking to buy a bjd, be careful when you come across cheap ones! These are not legit and seriously harm the artists who own the pirated sculpts! ). I spent around 700$ in total on my Nnoitra doll, and I assume Grimmjow will cost closer to 1000$. If you want to buy a doll, try to look for a sculpt that matches your character!  As for where to buy them? I’ve ordered my dolls on acbjd.com, a safe place to buy legit products!
