For a little more context: original title is Mostri e Pirati, while in Poland it was known as either Potwory i Piraci (DVD version) or Piraci - Wyprawa po Skarby (TV version, aired first on TVN Style in 2008 and then on TV Puls in 2015). Episodes focused on rivalry between two crews of young pirates and their adventures while searching for various treasures (first season had 13 episodes, 13 minutes each, and 3 story arcs).
It was commissioned by Ferrero as tie-in for their figurine line from Kinder Surprise, had two seasons, only first one had Polish premiere (but it's available on YT in English, just saying).
If You're familiar with this cartoon or figurines line from Kinder Surprise (they had quite a lot of stuff, I remember that some kinder products had cards in packaging or booklet with info about characters), can You also write what You remember about it? I know it's quite obscure piece of media which is why I'm curious how many people might remember it.
(Also, just saying, episodes with DVD version of Polish dub are on YT if You're curious about it, although this is cartoon for quite young audience, like 7-10 years old according to Mondo World, who were studio responsible for creating it)
#I'll put it that way#This series lives rent free in my head since 2008#It's my first ever hyperfixation#I still have some fics I wrote back in middle school before blox pl was turned off#(although I need to have drive with them repaired so yeah)#I remember stuff about this whole line better than I remember stuff I need for classes and it's bloody infuriating#So I got curious if there are other people who might remember it#I remember there was this other girl who would write fanfics about it in Polish and also published them on blox blog#and moved them to blogspot#but I wonder if there was anyone else in Poland#Monsters and Pirates#Monsters & Pirates#Mostri e Pirati#Potwory i Piraci#2000s nostalgia#Italian animation#Pirates#Piraci

Said it a year ago and I’ll say it again.
Pirate all your favorite shows, movies and games while you still have the chance.
Oh, and never stop supporting physical media.

One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:
It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and
Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.
#edit: go to https://gazafunds.org/ and donate $5 you would otherwise spend on streaming services on a campaign!#ra speaks#piracy#media piracy#pirate to make hondo ohnaka proud#obligatory ‘don’t fucking pirate small authors/artists works wtf dude’ statement.#anyone who’s seen my media bitching before knows I’m a hype man for indie films this ain’t about them#this is about corporate streaming services killing physical media bc sales numbers are less impressive than number of streams#edit: USAmericans stop telling me to buy DVDs and blurays at Walmart. think outside your borders for a hot sec. fun thought exercise.#your experiences are not universal#edit: WHO GOT THIS TO 100k. I JUST WANT TO TALK (this post is my second to hit 100k woahg.)#in other news: fix your fucking posture. drink some fucking water. and go the fuck to bed if it’s late bc it’s for me rn. peace and light.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!
If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!

Small reminder that you should really download your favorite fics off of AO3. We are seeing mass censorships well as the chance that anything, such as another severe DDoS attack can shut down the site making works unaccessible and possibly lost for good.
If you do not know how to download fics, it is a simple 2-button click. I've written a tutorial here.
You think your stuff is safe until it's suddenly not, and then often times it's too late.
This post starts with AO3, (because it seems to be the common denominator across all users on this website /joking) but I recommend extending preservation efforts to anything online if you can manage to download it.
I'm not saying panic and start buying tons of storage devices to hold immense amounts of stuff. A cheap usb can hold plenty of things. You don't have to stop using services still available if it's more convenient to read books on your phone than to fill your backpack with 7 of them.
But you should still get (either buying or creating) physical versions because nothing is guarantee that it will remain forever. From shows being pulled from streaming services, to banned books, to losing access to digital copies of media because the service doesn't support it anymore, the account is lost, or the company goes under. This goes for messaging platforms as well. Your role-plays with your friends on discord can be lost forever, your photos can too.
This doesn't even include media most vulnerable to censorship and how quickly it can be removed, and quietly.
You think it will not happen to you, it will. Do not wait for unforeseen circumstances. Go back up and preserve what you can, your future self will be happy that you did.
#sara shush#nothing specifically prompted this#every so often i just remember to back my stuff up#preservation is very important to me#media preservation#piracy

So I'm seeing a bunch of posts around these days suspiciously trying to tie shows being cancelled to the recent rise in piracy due to the uptick in streaming costs.
So I thought I'd remind everyone if the time Olan Rogers was forced to pirate the third season of Final Space because Warner Brothers had cancelled and memory holed it as a tax write off. A show HE CREATED.
That was back in 2022, before the hikes, before the mass wave of streaming sub losses. Don't let people fool you, it's not piracy that's killing your favorite shows. It's corps doing the same bullshit they always do.
