It feels like a hundred lifetimes have passed since Charles has seen him, even if Lorenzo had scolded him that it's unseemly to be so dramatic about an ally from the Northern kingdom--you yearn like he is your wife, he'd once deadpanned when he'd found Charles wrapped up in the study poring over a book to locate the next encyclopedic fact to include in his latest letter to Pierre.

But it's difficult to feel anything but yearning, after all this time: two years it's been since Charles has sat across a dining table with the Duke he calls his friend, two years since they'd ridden off into the woods together to hunt pheasant, two years since he'd trembled from the drag of that white silk glove against his unshaven jaw. Upon the return to Maranello, Pierre and his men had ridden back north where they'd come from in a rather disheveled hurry, and all Charles had been left with is the sight of Duke Gasly turning back towards him from horseback, glinting blue eyes cutting through the hazy dawn.

Two years of waiting, against the advisement of his mother and the family priest and even his youngest brother, who's too caught up in the fantasy of war to have an opinion about anything else: they all somehow can agree on this, that Charles Leclerc should not keep up this improper friendship with a man of rank from a kingdom so far from their own.

But Lord Charles has never been one to listen to the advice of anyone he does not seek out himself, and it's with great satisfaction that he reminds himself of that today: in the carefully folded parchment clutched in his hands, written in perfectly scrawled French, is a message from the Duke himself--prepare your chambers, sweet bird, for i will return to you in a fortnight.

“I am Sky” stories: Zelda

A bit of an explanation under the break?

Sky and Pipit are 100% brothers and no one can convince me otherwise. They’re very close! This story takes place before the Zelda story. Here, Sky’s been merged for like three days at the most, and those three days were spent in Skykeep, defeating Demise (and literally everyone else) and then a long recovery (which is a battle in and of itself). So having this time to test his limits in a safe place with someone he trusts is very important!

I have many MANY more thoughts about Sky and Pipit’s relationship that are currently being condensed into a fic (hopefully I’ll be able to get it all written out soon) but for now, I hope this is enough!

And as always, if you have questions, feel free to ask! I’m more than happy to ramble!

Pierre, lounged an appropriate distance away on the couch, almost tumbles off the cushions as he says, disbelieving, "you picked up magic during the pandemic?"

Charles nestles further into his corner of the couch, legs crisscrossed as he fiddles with the deck of cards in his hands, and shrugs--the look on his face is bashful but not quite embarrassed when he shrugs Pierre's question off: "I couldn't spend the whole time on Twitch with George and Alex and Lando," he answers after a beat; his face scrunches up in distaste, and Pierre laughs at it, kicking his leg out to try and get his best friend in the knee. It's like a switch flips, though, out of nowhere: Charles lights up like a Christmas tree and he lunges towards Pierre out of nowhere, knocking his foot off as he asks, excitedly, "do you want to see a trick I've been working on?"

It's funny, that they've spent the better part of the last year texting--that they'd spent the entirety of both of their bouts of Covid blowing each other's phones up out of boredom--and yet this is the first Pierre is hearing of this new talent of his; he wonders if maybe Charles had been saving it as some kind of surprise.

The thought warms something deep in Pierre's stomach, that this was something that Charles wanted to share with him like this: dressed down in his apartment while they're together in person again for the first time since they'd probably gotten each other sick back on Abu Dhabi...

"are you going to make me disappear, Cha," is how he ends up responding, and the color that floods his best friend's cheeks as he laughs, loud and bright, is impossible to look away from.
