FFXIVWrite 2024 #19: Taken

Idiom: taken with; charmed or captivated by.

During the events of 4.0; Lyse tells Hali that she has a potential suitor, but Hali doesn’t give a response that Lyse expects.

As soon as Vice Marshal Pipin Tarupin gives the Scions their orders, he salutes them and walks away. Once he’s out of earshot, Lyse turns to Hali and informs her, in not the most quiet nor discreet manner, “Oh Hali, it seems Pipin is quite taken with you.” Lyse nudges Hali’s shoulder, which prompted a sudden squeak noise from the unsuspecting lalafell.

“Wait… WHAT?!” Hali holds her face in her hands and tries to hide her reddening cheeks, but Lyse just giggles in response.

“You haven’t noticed how he’s staring at you every chance he gets? Awww, you both would make such a cute couple!”

Hali soon looked over at Pipin, with a far off glance. Her eyes were fixed upon the Vice Marshal, but her mind was malms away. In mere seconds, Hali’s demeanor had completely changed.

With a deep sigh, Hali asked Lyse, with a twinge of sorrow in her voice, “Because we’re both lalafell… right?”

Though Lyse was a bit confused at Hali’s question, she answered her quickly with a playful smile. “Well, that’s not the only reason. But yes, why not?”

“Nevermind.”

Hali shook her head and walked off towards a quiet corner of the base, with the same far off expression as before.

Lyse could only shrug her shoulders and shake her head in disbelief. “What did I say wrong?”
