Do you ever start a project, thinking it'd be a fun thing to make, only to realize halfway through you hate and have literally no use for it and then get stuck unsure what the fuck you should do with it
Yeah
This is my Bag of Regrets
Okay so around March of 2023 I made my first-ever crochet bag out of the leftover yarn I had from my Blanket of Darkness. I loved how that bag turned out, but even then I realized I could've done a better job had I lined the bag, which I should've done really early into the project.
So.
I ended up with a bunch of this super thin cotton yarn, in a few colors. We're not gonna talk about how I got the yarn, I just ended up with it. And I did not know what to do with it, because the pink and the dark maroon-y color just are not my colors, at all. I do not like them what-so-ever. And so like, I had to figure out something to do with the yarn, didn't wanna waste it. And for some god damn reason I thought I could practise making more crochet bags using this yarn.
Like in theory, this was a fine idea.
But I don't even like pink, what the fuck am I going do with this god damn thing now.
But I was a fucking idiot and did not think about that fact until I was like 80% done with it
Anyway, I thought it'd be fun to try doing a checkerboard pattern on the tiny crochet bag. This was a huge mistake. I don't know what the fuck it was about it, but I had the worst time of my life trying to make sure the squares were even, with the same amount of rows and that the corners met at the right spots- like sometimes I made the right amount of rows but the corners didn't meet at all and sometimes I did the wrong amount of rows but the corners did meet. It was a fucking nightmare to crochet. I had a horrible time. Making the front and back panels took me months and I had to restart it so many times just to get it right. It was bad, I hated it man
Also, by the way. I don't mind working with thin yarn at all, but because this was a thin COTTON yarn, I just. The yarn has no stretch, it is hard. Working with it made me feel like I was going to cut off my left finger as the yarn was rubbing against it as I was crocheting.
The bottom piece of the bag was done in that dark purple-maroon-y color with... I can't even remember what stitch I did, it was something Alt Knots has a video tutorial for on their YouTube though
But, I made the three crochet panels
Then I cut out the piece of fabric I would hand-sew the crochet pieces onto. I have a ton of this red-brown fabric that I have no idea wha to do with, and I figured it would work fine for this (since you're not supposed to see this fabric anyways) so I cut the pieces from it
Pinned the pieces down and then I just sewed the pieces onto the fabric. I decided to use sewing thread so it'd blend into the crochet better (being a fine thread and all), using white for the checker board pieces and a dark red/maroon-y color for the bottom piece
Forgot to take a photo of the bottom piece but it's fine, you get the idea
Then I cut out the lining fabric. I didn't really have any fabric that would actually match the checker board crochet at all, and I didn't want to buy anything so I chose to use this black fabric (with itty bitty roses) for lining
Cut the pieces and pinned them down facing each other
I think I originally wanted to do the sewing by hand for a cleaner look but I wasn't happy with it, so after I did my innitial hand-stitching I went over it with a sewing machine, getting as close to the crochet but without sewing over it. And after checking it was okay, I cut the excess fabric and did some clean up to help keep the fabric from fraying.
Folded the pieces inside out and they were looking decent!
Now yes, I did still have to hand-sew one side shut for each piece, but it wasn't a big deal, though sadly because I had to make sure the handsewing wasn't visible on the outside of the bag, this was going to be a visible flaw on the lining anyways
You can see what I mean on the top edge of the bigger piece (with the white thread)
In hindsight I probably could've sewn the edge shut with a mattress stitch or something instead of going through all the fabric, but alas, I was stupid and didn't not realize this at the time
Sidenote I took like 5 month break from this project after finishing the front and back piece but before I did the bottom piece. Because yeah, this was around when I realized I hated what I was making and that I had no idea what the fuck I was gonna do with it once it was done. And I just could not get myself to even look at it, for months. And it HAUNTED me, made me feel bad about not having completed it every dang day. But yeah, finally in March I got back to it after finishing my last crochet blanket. Because I wanted to start another project but I did not want to start anything before finishing this fucking thing so yeah.
(Oh yeah I also I grabbed some metal accessories from my mom's stash that I attached to the bottom piece, so the bag can have a widdle handle)
With the pieces all done, it was finally time to sew them together. And this I was going to do by hand sewing them with a mattress stitch. I started by just attaching the smaller piece to the bottom, making sure it was centered right, and carefully sewed it together, starting from the middle and making my way up the sides, one at a time.
I did very specifically do sewing on the red-brown fabric
And it was looking good, according to plan!
Did the bigger piece the same way, and then all I had to do...
...Was clean up, by mattress stitching the crochet pieces together. Chose to use white because I figured I'd rather have small amounts of white peeking through on the bottom piece than have the dark red/purple on the front pieces. Though thankfully the white yarn isn't even that noticable, it sinked into the stitches quite nicely
With that done, I did this one final little touch-up. On checker crochet pieces you could kind of see my starting row, as the row had quite large holes in it. And I wasn't a huge fan of how it looked, so I just took some of the white yarn and wove it into the loops to fill it out
One final thing I did but didn't bother documenting was the strap. I did considder crocheting it, and even started it, but I did not like the stitch I was trying to use for it, and at this point I was so fucking done with the project I couldn't be bothered. I had some white cotton ribbon with nothing to do with it, so I decided to just grab some of that to make a lil strap. It's... not great, it's just that the ribbon is quite thin so it FEELS really flimsy. But I had reached the "I don't give a fuck anymore" stage and so. Yeah whatever
My shitty little bag of regrets is done. Yay.
I probably could've done something to clean the edges of the bag better because you can see the red-brown fabric peeking through, but... Like I can't think of what I could do to fix that, and again, I'm at the point where I don't have the energy to even try anymore
It's done, and that's what matters
Probably throwing it in the trash because what else am I gonna do with it
(Final note; I did have left-over yarn from this, but I used that yarn to make tiny mesh fruit/grocery bags. Ones I will actually use! Yay)

For my birthday this year I finally made this dress wearable again!
I made this dress a couple years ago and accidentally made the elastics at the waist too tight (which made the dress very uncomfortable to wear). I sometimes really dread alterations and keep procrastinating on them for no real reason.
I only removed the elastics from the waist part and haven't added new (less tight) ones yet. The dress is already wearable as is, though I noticed another problem: I didn't have lots of fabric when I made this dress and the patchwork bodice is a bit shorter than usual for this pattern. So now this annoys me and I think about elongating the bodice somehow... sigh... would be a lot of work though!
[id]5 pictures in total.
Picture 1: a group selfie featuring three young white women (including OP). Two of them have brown hair and the third one brightly dyed red hair. OP is in the middle: a fat woman with glasses, wearing her brown hair open with two small decorative braids framing her face. She's wearing a green patchwork dress, mixed with cream coloured fabric with pink roses on it and white fabric with pink/violett hearts and green ornaments on it. The bodice is finished with cream-coloured lace bias binding. She's wearing a flower crown with green vines and white, pink & magenta coloured flowers on it (a birthday present from a friend from some years ago).
Her brown-haired friend is a bit chubby as well, with a short braid. She's wearing a cheerful yellow top with white daisies on it! She's wearing fancy brown macrame style earrings. Unfortunately her beautiful tree necklace made with buttons is not visible in the picture, you can only see the leather string of the necklace.
The third friend is thin and slender, but also sharing something with OP: she's also wearing glasses. She's wearing a pink bow in her red hair, as well as a pink "tattoo style" elastic necklace. She's wearing an off-white crochet shawl lent to her by OP over her white shirt.
The women are all smiling, it's clearly a happy day!
Picture 2: A close-up of the patchwork dress turned inside out. It shows the middle part, made of green gingham with the too-tight elastic still sewn into it.
Picture 3: A close-up of the bodice and waist-part of patchwork dress being worn with the too-tight elastic removed from the waist.
Picture 4:
An almost full body shot of OP: a young fat white woman with glasses and long brown hair. She's wearing most of her hair open and it falls in a wave over her shoulders. Two thin decorative braids frame her face and give her an elven look. One of the braids is tangled with the strap of her sand-coloured crocheted bag in this picture. The bag is decorated with a green bow with a floral pattern on it! She's wearing a flower crown with white, pink and magenta coloured flowers on it, they are made from wire and nailpolish (an old birthday present from a friend of hers). The star of the show is the patchwork dress: made out of green fabric with a gingham pattern (there are darker green patches and lighter green patches), green gingham patches with flowers printed on it, creme coloured patches with pinkish roses on them and green patches with pinkish roses on them. Mixed with it is a white fabric with violet coloured hearts and green ornamental swirls on it and a cream-coloured fabric covered with strips of lace. The lace fabric has also been turned into bias tape for the binding of the neckline and the arm holes of the dress. The dress is decorated with side gores made out of the white fabric with violet coloured hearts on it. The gores are decorated with a thick green lace. Yellow lacy sleeves of a shirt are visible under the bodice of the dress and a amber coloured bracelet can be seen on the left wrist. The woman is standing in front and among some lush greenery (trees and bushes), adding to the elfen look of her outfit.
Picture 5: A full body shot of the above described woman. She's standing on a path next to some hedges and trees. The picture is blurred - like you were trying to take a picture of some otherwordly fae perhaps...?[/id]

Part 8 of A Treatise of Embroidery, crochet, and knitting with illustrations
By George C. Perkins, Anna Grayson Ford, and M. Heminway & Sons Silk co circa 1899
Please note, this book was written in 1899, and as such uses a racist term to refer to the dyes that were used for the thread. If you'd like to read more about this period in time, the term, and the stereotypes that the Victorians had, I've actually linked the wikipedia article here that goes more in depth. It's not the end all be all of it, but it's a good starting place for anyone wanting to educate themselves on the topic.
The alt text for the page on the left containing the actual embroidery pattern is written below:
Page 31. Lessons in Embroidery.
This is the chart for the embroider by letters/numbers diagram on this page.
La France Rose. (Pink.) Flower: 580 is shade number 1, 581 is 2, 0582 is 3, 582 is 4, 583 is 5, 584 is 6, 585 is 7, 586 is 8, 0432 is 9, and 432 is 10.
Leaves and stems.
Green:
570 is Shade letter A, 571 is B, 572 is C, 573 is D, 436 is E, 437 is H, 438 is I, 439 is K.
Old Red: 233 is M, and 234 is O.
Rose Design.
Materials. — M. Heminway & Sons' Oriental Dyes, Japan and Spanish Floss.
La France Rose. — 580 to 586, 0432, 432, a645, 0645. Leaves. — 570 to 573, or 0428 to 430, or 436 to 439 Japan Floss ; 233, 234 Japan Floss. Scallop. — 691 Spanish Floss ; also 370 Japan Floss.
Description. — Work the top petals of rose with 0582, 582, shading darker underneath where the leaf turns over with 584, 585. The turn-over leaves make of the lighter shades, 580, 581. A very little of green, 0432 and 432, can be used with effect in one of the lower petals, running the green into the light pink. Also in the fallen petals of rose use these greens with yellow, a645, 0645.
Leaves. — Shade the same as Design No. 138 on page 37, using the red-brown, 233 and 234, for thorns and stems.
Scallop. — Long and short buttonhole with 691 white Spanish Floss, shading with 370 Japan Floss.
In any La France design containing buds just bursting, use darkest shades of pink, 585, 586
There is an illustration of a doily captioned Design No. 239— Double Rose. 22 inch. It has three large roses and one small one paired with one of the larger ones flowing clockwise around the doily. there are also some petals shown scattered from one of the roses as well.
There is also a diagram for the rose captioned Spray of Design No. 239. Showing Slant of Stitches. The stitches curve in the direction of the leaves and petals. I will list off the shade letters/numbers as follows:
The stem begins in D with a thorn done in O emerging on the right, and another one a ways above it emerging on the left. A small sprig of three leaves emerge from the right.
Starting from the upmost leaf which is curled and emerges from the leftmost side of the sprig, we will go row by row.
1st Row, the furled underside of the leaf: A 2nd row onwards, the upper side of the leaf: C, B. 3rd Row: B, C. 4th Row: M, D.
Next leaf, Sprig tip leaf, rows from tip to base:
1st Row: C. 2nd Row: B, A, B. 3rd Row: B, A, A, C. 4th Row: M. 5th Row: C, D, D.
last leaf, bottom leaf but the rightmost leaf on the sprig.:
1st Row: D, A. 2nd Row: C, D, B. 3rd Row: B, B, B, A. 4th Row: A, A. 5th Row: M.
Back to the main stem, we go upwards and there is a thorn done in M just before another sprig emerges from the left. This one does not have any lettering so I would go by the previous pattern or improvise. It does show the lines of the stitches curving with the leaf.
The Stem continues in D with two more thorns on the right side done in M. The receptacle of the flower, aka the green part where the petals emerge from, starts in M and then transitions to C.
There are sepals, the tiny leaves around the flower base, with one on either side. The tips are twisted to reveal the underside and done in A, while the bases are done in B.
Onto the actual rose,
Right bottom outer petal which is opened and nearly totally sideways, done in rows working upward from the bottom to the top.
Row 1: 10, 4, 2, 2. Row 2: 9, 3, 5, 5, 3. Row 3: 5, and the curled over top part of the petal is 3.
Left Bottom outer petal:
Row 1: 2, 3, 7, 6. Row 2: 5. Row 3: 2, 4, 4, 7.
onto the next set of petals, there are three this time emerging from the bottom two:
Left outer Petal:
Row 1: 3, 7, 6. Row 2: 2, 5, 6. Row 3: 2, 4, 3. Row 4:3. Row 5: 3, 5. Row 6: 5. Row 7 has just a slight furl to it which is done in two.
Center Outer Petal:
Row 1: 3, 2, 3, 4. Row 2: 3, 4, 4, 3, 5, 6. Row 3: 5, 6. Row 4 is alternating furled and unfurled bits: 3 unfurled, 3 furled, 2 unfurled, furled and has no number but is likely 3.
Right Outer Petal:
Row 1: 7. Row 2: 5. Row 3: 4. Row 4: 3, 2. Row 5: 2.
Next row of petals, we'll be going right to left this time because the rightmost petal is actually sort of cutting in front of the previous petal and the center outer petal that we just did.
Right Center Petal, both sides furl and join at the center in a point, the left furl says 2, so I would guess the right one is also done in that as well even though it's not numbered.
Row 1: 6, 5, 7. Row 2: 5, 4. Row 3: 2.
Center Petal:
Row 1: 6, 7. Row 2: 5, 5, 4. Row 3 2 is a furled edge that goes diagonally upwards towards unfurled 3, 4, 3 is the unfurled tip of the petal, 2 furled rightmost bit diagonally upwards towards unfurled 3.
Left Center Petal. The edge of this one is completely furled and goes diagonally upwards to a point and comes down. It is done in shades 3 and 2. For the rest of the petal:
Row 1: 5, 6. Row 2: 3, 5. Row 3: 4. Row 4: 4. Row 5: 3.
Now there are three petals left to do and they emerge at a diagonal offset from the previous 3. With the next set, each petal is wider than the previous one, and the first petal is the small centermost petal of the rose while the next two are the outer petals, with the last one emerging from the center of the second to last petal and the corner of the Right Outer Petal we did earlier.
Center Petal: Row 1: 5. Row 2: 3, 4. Row 3 is furled but has no number, I'd go with either 2 or 3 judging from elsewhere in the diagram.
Center Outer Petal:
Row 1: 2, 2, 3.
Outermost petal:
Row 1: 4. Row 2: 3. There is some slight furling around the 3 which is unfurled, one of which is labelled 1. *******
The next few updates will be single page updates since the alt text is very long!

I can see you: Chapter 8 The Meeting
The Riverside Country Villa is enormous. Pen thought as she drove past the ornate kissing gate.
Once her white P.T. Cruiser drives through the beginning of the long gravel road, Pen sees two over-the-top rose bushes in a maze pattern and a line of palm trees between the road and the four acres of the villa's landscape.
The romance writer's mouth dropped when she saw the house. No, Pen couldn't say it was a home. In front of her is a place where she could picture herself getting married in her dreams.
The villa is the 1800s-style Recegnecy mansion that Pen loves writing in her stories.
The three brown pillars hold the triangle rooftop while the three-story brown brick building is cover by vines with pink lotus flowers and white roses. In front of the house is an imperial stairway made of stone.
The one thing that destroys the place's exterior, well in Pen's option, is the middle, where a modern Dutch door replaces the original door.
The small wooden door looks out of place with the stone brinks surrounding it. But Pen has to accept that sometimes regency materials are hard to come by in modern times.
After stopping for a few seconds to stare at the mansion in disbelief, Pen felt like a little girl jumping for joy. Knowing she would be living one of her dreams for one week is exciting but also inspires her to write. Sadly, she has to wait until she gets the WiFi to access it.
Nevertheless, Penelope Featherington is certain that this vacation will change her life. For the better, who knows?
"I am staying in a Regency mansion," Pen whispers in awe.
Pen turns the car's engine off, unbuckles her seat belt, and opens the door without looking away from the villa.
It takes her a few seconds to notice several other cars already parked in front of the quad with a fancy fountain in between. Some are rentals from near the LAX airport, but the one that catches her eye is Eloise's Mercedez bins.
"Pen!" She hears before seeing Eloise from the top of the imperial.
Pen laughs as she sees her best friend running down in her direction in her long Bridgeton blue and crochet beanie Pen made her for Christmas two years ago.
"Ooff" escapes Pen's lips as Eloise hugs her like she didn't see her yesterday.
"Eloise, I don't think your friend can breathe!" They hear an unrecognizable tenor male voice shout from above.
Pen's body begins to stand stiff from hearing the most musical voice in her life, while her best friend changes her position to a side hug to face one of her older brothers.
Within seconds of searching for the source behind the voice, she sees his beautiful blue eyes, tousled curly hair, and tan skin.
SingleManTraveler and Colin Bridgeton walk down the stairs quickly, but in Pen's point of view, he looks like one of those romantic characters who is slowly looking at her with a smirk of a smile on his medium-sized lips.
Colin's navy blue eyes stare at Pen with amusement behind them while she realizes how short she is as he walks closer to the two ladies.
According to her doctor, she is five-one while all the Bridgetons are taller than her.
Colin Bridgetion is a whole foot taller than her. To be exact, six feet tall!
Oh my goodness, he is hot, Pen thought while she took this time to see what he was wearing.
Unlike everyone in the family, Colin was wearing a less expensive outfit.
A pair of navy blue Levis, white Converses, a causal t-shirt, and a black pair of sunglasses on his curly hair; the whole outfit made him look like a model.
As for her, Pen decided to wear one of her favorite outfits.
A regency dress in the color green with blue lace, and her hair is back to its original color, red, pin-up full-on natural curls, and green flower wedding pins.
"Ah, hello, Miss Penelope Featherington! It is nice to see the face of the woman who sent such wonderful messages from Instagram." Colin replies like he just told the most perfect joke of the century.
Pen's blue eyes widen in shock from his greeting while Eloise asks," Pen, What is my brother talking about?"
Neither of the two explains to the third wheel in their conversation just what they are talking about.
Penelope stopped working like those memes from Tumblr, and all she could think was, Fuck. He read her instragam messges. She is so screwed.
"Nothing, Eloise! Let us bring Miss Featheringtion in, shall we?" Colin disregards her question before walking behind the two ladies.
"We are talking about this later." Pen hears Eloise whisper in her left ear while her petite body is pulled up the stairs by said best friend.
She nods okay without saying a word before glancing behind them to see Colin following them with her luggage and giving her a mischievous grin on his handsome face.
Colin then gives her a wink of a smile, and Pen looks away before feeling her face turning cherry red.
"Yup, I am fucked." Pen thought as the three walked the stairway into the mansion.

original idea, no purple, too small
all granny squares, decided to add purple to make it bigger
2nd idea laid out
joined granny squares (front)
joined granny squares (back)
finished and bordered (front)
finished and bordered (back)
colors: ivory, light rose, cosmetic pink, eggplant
finally finished my first actual crocheted blanket! took forever cuz i was procrastinating on the border but i started it in near the end of december 2022 and finished the squares and joining them in january 2023
took a procrastination break for a while, got more yarn, learned how to make 2 different scarf patterns
my only regret was not knowing there was machine washable and dryable yarn
also not knowing why the yarns for this one are different despite being the same size (4)??
like, some of them (specifically the white) are thinner and some are thicker, i can feel the difference, not sure what that’s about
flashback to the first full thing i made as practice
learned from THIS video for joining the squares
#art mine#2023 art mine#crafts#crochet#shapeshiftinterest#granny squares#still feels like i'm tying them off wrong but i've gotten better at it maybe?#unraveled the first project so i could reuse the yarn as practice

My Trolls AU
Introduction of the Troll Tribes (My Version)
Pop Nation/Pop Garden
Pop City (Nation/Empire): These Pop trolls live in a place that's kind of like 'Pop Village' but bigger/more populated and is called 'Pop City', King Peppy still rules. Pop City still lives in the Dark Forest, it's a little further from Bergen City, I would say in the Center of the Forest. The Pop trolls grew another Troll Tree, which is referred to as Pop City or Pop Central. And also have advanced technology combined with nature. It's a little metropolitan wonder, where the most famous and powerful trolls live. Due to the powerful and ancient magic of the Pop String.
Pop Garden: The Pop Garden was glowing thanks to a pink light shining over it, and everywhere you looked, there were dark, light, and even average pink colors everywhere. The place was full of plants and bugs, like butterflies, caterpillars, bees, dragonflies, ladybugs, and grasshoppers. The garden has different kinds of flowers, a lot of them, like sunflowers, roses, santans, gumamelas, daisies, daffodils, etc. Not just flowers, there are also different kinds of plants, like vines, shrubs, succulents, ferns, mushrooms, and others. There was a pathway for Trolls to move around while gazing at the plants. There was also a big fountain where they could sit around it, and Pop Trolls could play their Pop music.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Techno Reef/Techno Water Amusement Park
Techno Reef: Techno Reef is an underwater location with LEDs and bright lights, based on macramé and optical fibers. Techno Reef is of high technology, with many LEDs providing lights that surround the dark oceanic floor. This is considered to be well-suitable for the Techno Trolls' parties. Most of Techno Reef is also made of crochet. This is due to the powerful and ancient magic of the Techno String.
Techno Water Amusement Park: Techno Water Amusement Park was literally a water amusement park. It has many water slides with different styles, showers, fountains, water game booths, floatie slides, dunk tanks, and several swimming pools. A few of the pools are kiddie pools with small water slides, some have medium pools, and some have pools that look like rivers, but in the middle of the park was the biggest pool of all, connecting to the other big pools. The Water Amusement Park has many shades of blue, like the slides. It also has stores, like water gun stores, where it can rent water guns for kids, bottled water stores, water balloon stores, pool shops where MMTs can buy swimming equipment and toys, and clothes storage where Trolls can keep their clothes to wear their swimming clothes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lonesome Flats/Country Farm
Lonesome Flats: Lonesome Flats is located in a desert, and is loosely based on a Wild West theme. Lonesome Flats is a sandy and harsh place in the Troll Kingdom. The Country Trolls settled in a deserted area after the isolation from the Pop Trolls. Lonesome Flats appear to be of low technology, as there aren't much of advanced devices in it. It resembles a quilt, with different stitches patterned on the ground and buildings. It's mostly comprised of hot colors (e.g. orange, yellow, red, etc.), which matches both the desertic nature of its location and its Wild West theme. This is accomplished by the Ancient Magic of Country String.
Country Farm: The Country Farm has orange land with lots of crops in rows. The place was almost similar to Lonesome Flats and Country Corral, but instead of a building and house, the whole place is a farm. There are barns, fields of crops, and farm animals roaming around. Though Trolls came here to work to provide food, most of them are Country Trolls. They were harvesting fruits and vegetables, raising the animals, and selling their harvest at their stalls.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Symphonyville/Classical Heaven
Symphonyville: The area of Symphonyville goes across hills and mountains. Out of all the locations of Troll Kingdom, it has the highest elevation overall. For the Classical Trolls, Symphonyville is the most unique and beautiful place. Symphonyville appears to mostly use traditional technology and has instrument and floral patterns on hills and mountain surfaces. It's a calm place, suitable for the Classical Trolls to play their soft music. Most of Symphonyville has golden and yellow tones, as well as some other colors with a tint of gold on them. The Classical Trolls reside in groups at cave-like structures, each of which matches the respective instrument each group plays with the exits shaped like it. This is accomplished by the Ancient Magic of Classical String.
Classical Heaven: Classical Heaven was like a heavenly place where many Classical Trolls flew around instead of walking. The floor looked like clouds, but it was as solid as the ground below. The floor was actually cotton fabric with artificial clouds all over the place so the Classical Trolls or other trolls from other tribes could step on. The place has plenty of gazebos with orchestras of Classical Trolls in each of them with their respectful conductors leading them. The place also has shops and cafes for the MMTs to take a break, relax, and have fun. Classical music was played in the air as the MMTs just stopped and listened calmly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vibe City/Funk Bar
Vibe City: Vibe City has a surreal, science fiction-esque landscape with bright neon signs. It is the only moving location in the Troll Kingdom, making the Funk Trolls the only nomadic Tribe. The entire city is found within a giant UFO-like vehicle that's clamshell-like with some outside balconies. The outside shell is made from platinum records, arranged like overlapping sequins. Thus, Vibe City is also the most advanced location of Troll Kingdom in terms of technology. Their contact with the other troll kingdoms means there is a much higher level of technology throughout Troll Nation, leading to troll mass media, troll cell phones, and troll internet. This is accomplished by the Ancient Magic of Funk String.
Funk Bar: The Funk Bar was glowing thanks to a purple light shining over it, and everywhere. There were dark, light, and even average purple colors everywhere. There were also glowing words and letters made of neon lights. The bar has a slight resemblance to Vibe City, but smaller, and has many Funk Trolls around. Funk Bar also has beverage stores, souvenir stands, and album shops. The song "Superstition" was heard in the background.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volcano Rock City/Rock Field
Volcano Rock City: Volcano Rock City is an ash-covered wasteland with lava and flowing volcanoes. The skies are dark here due to ash clouds. Volcano Rock City is a hot area, with lava flowing everywhere. It appears to be of high technology and is made from leather and denim. Most of Volcano Rock City is of black, orange, and red colors, presumably to match the Rock Trolls' designs. This is accomplished by the Ancient Magic of Rock String.
Rock Field: Rock Field was like an ash-covered wasteland with small lava pools, and thin trails of flowing lava. Some rocks around are sharp, most of them are igneous rocks since they are from magma that cools down. All around, Rock Trolls played their guitars, drums, keyboards, cymbals, and other Rock instruments hard and loudly before smashing them down as the other Rock Trolls cheered with them. Some MMTs can roast their food above the lava pools like hotdogs and marshmallows.

woo I've got 3 of 4 crochet projects done! I'm taking a quick break before i return to the final one, but here's what I've been working on for the past month!
brief explanation: a friend of mine talked me into putting together some crochet stuff for the fiber arts part of my local fair! all submissions are due may 26th (including photography and art, which I'm going to figure out after I'm done with my crochet work) so I've been scrambling ever since finishing up with my dcrb stuff
the first of the projects is an elephant themed handbag. it's technically a bit of a collab with a friend of mine who came up with the initial idea and is going to be dealing with the interfacing and the lining, so I'm going to have to sort out how to represent that in the submission but
here's what it will look like, minus the ears, tail, and feet. i photographed it before sending it off to her! i also made a trial bag ahead of time
i also made this to trial run my design ideas. it's got some major flaws though i do actually like the head shape more lol even though I spent a LOT of time trying to make the final one work properly.
project 2 is these parols! if you're unfamiliar, an actual parole is a star-shaped paper lantern made in the philippines as a christmas decoration. now i can't make paper lanterns but i can make these, which i did, based off of a design i worked out last Christmas to make some as a gift for my mom. most of these were made using lily sugar and cream yarn which was a Huge Mistake lol.
project 3, which i actually finished a while ago before finishing up the parols are these...things. it's a bit tricky to explain but basically i made these both for fun and as an experiment to test out the capabilities and limitations of chatgpt. if you're somewhat familiar with me, you'll know I'm a programmer by career. which means i have to keep abreast of technological developments NOT because i need them for my job, but because i WILL get pestered by other people who think i know the answer (a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, that). plus, machine learning is a bit fun cause it's a) it's fun to see it flop and flail around cause it doesn't actually know shit and b) it's a fascinating reflection of the world we've created and the failures and limitations of the structures we create to define and control it.
which is to say that i asked it for various patterns with varying levels of specificity and oversight and crocheted what it gave me with varying levels of "forgiveness" (damn thing doesn't even tell me where to sew or attach things most of the time). IF my submission is accepted, I'm hoping they'll let me submit some explanations to go with lol. and also after finishing the last pattern, which i generated maybe 2 weeks ago, I've finished off the project in solidarity with WGA and the newly unionized "AI" content moderators.
(the most powerful tool i think i have personally is my ability to explain why chatgpt and it's siblings are so limited in their ability and why people ought to be careful implementing them in any meaningful way)
so now that I've adequately proved that i am not a tech bro, actually. observe: my children
the absolutely comical moray eel
i requested a separate jaw piece and that it be long and thin. it gave me this in the silliest way possible.
yes the fins are all wrong and the body is weirdly twisted. i don't know why it gave me a trapezoidal panel. it didn't even tell me to make a tube out of it or how but idk what else i couldve possibly done. anyway, i love him
next, a small collection of flowers.
one looks like a sunny side up egg but pink. chat gpt claimed the one on the left was specifically supposed to be a rose, which is genuinely funny. it's a flower doily, at best, and not even a good one at that.
poppy, orange
im actually quite impressed by these, especially the poppy petals and the leaf of the orange (though the orange is rather flat... i squished it in a bit for the sake of the picture. also check out that stem. wild.)
mystery patterns 1 and 2
these were supposed to resemble actual things, when i was done with them. they do not.
my beloved pill quail
the pattern actually had the dots misaligned because it miscounted the number of stitches in the round, making the instructions mathematically impossible. for the sake of not accidentally creating a physical impossibility and plunging the world into a spontaneously generated black hole, i decided to fix it instead. though that didn't stop my poor quail from literally being capsule shaped, having coffin shaped wings, and the largest quail beak ever. i actually was very specific about this pattern and had to ask it for modifications and answer regenerations a lot (if you do this, you'll find that the average crochet pattern it makes is JUST outside the bounds of it's character limit), so the fact it turned out so funny looking will never not be hilarious to me
mushrooms
for the first, it actually just gave me a panel for the stem, but not cylindrifying it made no sense. for the second it literally just gave me two balls but the nature of crochet balls is you can kinda squish them into shapes.
the "flower basket"
i asked it for an idea to put into the fair, it gave me the flower basket—a small, deflated ball. 10/10. the biggest failure, which is why I love it so
the water lily
it did not adequately tell me how to put the petals onto the circular back panel (which it called the flower). I'd say what i did is probably what it was going for, but it's literally incapable of going for anything. that's not how text predictive models work. and fun fact! no water lily patterns on the internet look like this
self-representation
if chatgpt looked like a little crochet guy, it would look like this, according to it. (once you get past it insisting that if has no visible/physical form) apologies for the very mediocre glasses—i did not get into this hobby to embroider. i am very specifically not good at that. also it's feet were literally too big to have it NOT be sitting. and i did ask for the size safety eyes i should use, which is why they're so small lmfao
and finally:
Ert the hedgehog. it told me i COULD add spikes by using a crochet hook to add yarn at the top of its head. it did not tell me how. so i did that...for at LEAST as much time as it took to make the rest of it. Ert is my newest scapegoat whenever i have a problem. also i forgot to style his spikes for this photo lmaoo
bonus:
#new post#crochetposting#i think i shall put any crochet related projects in that tag now#ok I'm gonna zone out for a bit and then get back to project 4#i was at work nearly 12 hours yesterday so I'd like a bit of a break lol

I haven’t crocheted for a month (I kept intending to start a knitting project and then not doing it, then I was focused on editing my Bang fic, then I got sick,) so I asked the household for inspiration.
Unfortunately I asked after we were reviewing the GDQ Game List for possible prize submissions (Dad’s got a lot of scrap wood he’d like to get rid of.) I don’t think there was clear recognition that I was looking for the creative equivalent of stretching those muscles back out.
Thus, suggestions like “Kirby” and “Dusa from Hades” (which was vetoed by my ophidiophobic mother, fair enough,) and me concluding I will be making at minimum a Cartoon Zergling from Starcraft. (Bonus: Bro assures me that since it’s Brood War, some of this hot pink yarn I am DESPERATELY trying to use up will work perfectly.) Also on the list of possibilities: Fawful, Amy Rose, more Pikadumplings, a Met from Mega Man, strawberries.
Me, scrolling Etsy: Okay I found a baby octopus no-sew pattern with a little hat for three bucks.
It was agreed that yes, baby octopus with a little hat is the obvious choice.
#crafting with Regalli#also this hot pink is the right color for Cure Dream’s hair and DEVIL. THIS IS THE DEVIL SPEAKING.#I WILL NOT CROCHET A FULLY TRANSFORMED PRECURE#I REFUSE. I HAVE LIMITS.#I may have something wrong with me enough to willingly try Nomura designs but there have to be limits SOMEWHERE#(if I started I would eventually want my girls. Grace and Star and Milky at minimum. Summer and La Mer most likely.)#(and they are all WAAAAAY more complex than I’m willing to go in yarn. Too many subtle shades of pink. too many PATTERNS.)

Crochet Rose Mesh Bag
Here's how I made my first crochet bag:
I found this vintage(?) linen yarn in a trift store recently and thought it'd be perfect for this project. Its texture reminded me of leaves on a vine or a rose bush.
I had this fabric laying around for a couple years. The color matched pretty closely and the roses inspired me to add more pink details such as this crochet rose. I wish the zipper was a different color but my local craft store had limited options and I was impatient lol
I forgot which pattern I used for the rose, but here are the patterns for the bag and the puff flowers on the handle.
I adjusted the pattern for the bag to make the sides cave in (I have no clue what I'm talking about if you couldn't tell already) so here's another picture of the final result 😅
