Incredible things about the Chappell Roan VMAs performance

This is the first time she's had a really big budget to work with for one of her live performances and she put it to amazing use

Her look and theme for this performance felt like a subtle but significant break from her long-running "thrift store drag queen" concept. Her makeup was a lot subtler than usual and there's nothing drag queen or thrift store about knights and chainmail. But at the same time, Chappell has always been willing to go over the top and we're now seeing that with a bigger budget, she's able to go way more over the top in more ways than ever before which is SO exciting

You can hear her audibly catching her breath a few times during the song (probably from running around in a fucking suit of armor while singing) but despite that she STILL managed to absolutely nail the high notes for the "I told you so" part at the end

I don't know if she did this on purpose but despite not even having another woman on stage with her she still managed to give the lesbians more than they could have asked for considering that there is nothing lesbians love more than a woman with a sword
