How cool would it be to have an open world Steven Universe MMO or RPG game.

Hear me out:

Fully customizable character creation. Physical AND story based. Like being able to be a Pearl to another gem or a past or present commander of other gems. The story is in your hands.

Quests of your own choosing; whether it be to be a villain or rogue gem creating a new colony, or simply working or attending little home school. Or a default storyline of some kind.

Fully fledged canon characters with relationships that can be developed, be it in a bad way or good way. Also with romance options of course ;)

Perhaps you could travel to new planets with randomly generated and unique features.

Being able to fuse with other characters, NPCs and real online players if you're on multiplayer. (I think there would be a single player and multiplayer option)

Private lobbies to play with friends online or local, with customizable relationships with their characters as well.

A game like this would definitely be pretty hard to make and harder to make it well. It's nice to dream though.

Thoughts on the Pearls bonding

The thing is that I shipped Jaspearl because I was hoping the two would overcome their trauma together since their traumas were caused by the same person, and they were both extremely devoted to Pink Diamond. So, my hope was that Pearl would be a source of support for Jasper to heal considering the fact that Pearl is, allegedly, the one who was closest to her. Pearl was right there when Pink Diamond decided to start the war, become Rose Quartz and continue living her life like that. And Pearl would know best how to explain to Jasper why Pink Diamond chose to do what she did. 

But, Steven Universe Future proved me wrong. First of all, Jasper made it explicitly clear that she’s healing in her own way, and that it’s completely valid. She has always been an independent gem, and I find it 100% in-character for her to choose to remove herself from the rest of (gem)society in order to find herself in things she really enjoys doing like fighting and beating things up. I know this isn’t the last we’ll see of Jasper but I find this good closure for her. The last thing I’m hoping from Jasper is seeing her interact with Lapis and properly talking things out in regards to Malachite. As for Pearl, I was completely taken by surprise by her and Pink Pearl’s development. I wanted Jaspearl development for the sake of giving closure to Jasper, but I never fully realized that Pearl herself hadn’t gotten full closure yet. I did not realize, for a single moment, that Pearl and Pink Pearl had never talked before, cause to me it always seemed like a given that they would have already had a conversation as soon as Pink Pearl was healed and reverted back to her normal self. I was given something that I didn’t quite expect, and that was having both of Pink Diamond’s pearls healing together because, as they bond and fuse, they understand each other’s traumas the most. They can relate to each other the most. And they can keep healing and growing together as there isn’t anything that is standing in their way anymore, and there isn’t anyone else around that understands them as they themselves do.

This is why I found myself thinking, to my own surprise, that if they remained a permafusion, that it would only be natural and completely logical. Because they finally found each other. It doesn’t matter if you read this development as romantic, as a sisterly bond, or as a close friendship bond, the fact remains that they will be inseparable from now on, and if a romance does end up happening between them, this episode served as a solid foundation for that happening.

I’m unsatisfied with Pearl and Volleyballs relationship

It’s just.... I feel like it erased so much of what makes Pearl Pearl ya know? She’s always been very serious about forming bonds and hesitant to create new ones. They didn’t know each other, and they knew different Pinks before. I understand that their fusion may have helped them understand each other better, but I still feel like they should have more time to develop the same friendship Pearl has with the others, and to allow Volley time to adjust to life on earth. Idk. I feel like there’s a little bias since I’m a big jaspearl fan, but I feel like if Garnet wasn’t an established relationship from the beginning, I would feel the same about Sapphire and Ruby’s relationship.

Sorry for the absurd delay, haha. This one was fun! o3o

I: How many fandoms have you written in?  Do you have a favorite?

Oh jeeze. UHH. So I… definitely started writing extremely bad Land Before Time fanfiction when I was first learning to write… Therefore I have no idea how many. And would probably be afraid to find out, haha.

That said, it looks like I’ve… somehow got a good ten or eleven fandoms I’ve inexplicably written for floating around on sites I can still find hosting them. But a lot got eaten in the ancient times of Geocities.

I think I probably had the most fun in the Yuugiou fandom, as a writer, since I am a lazy person who wrote very little Gundam Wing fic and never published any of my Slayers garbage. :’D But I did much better work in the Steven Universe fandom. YGO was a really fun sandbox with an insane amount of creativity and a lot of challenges and contests. I am also possibly biased because that’s where I met me wife.

E: What character do you identify with most?  Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?

Oh jeeze, uhhh. Well, Pearl gets a lot of my projection these days. I have a Rose Quartz Ex of sorts that I was super incredibly codependent on and totally defined my identity around shortly after my dad died in high school. We were together a few years, but the last year she was seeing a guy on the side, and I knew about it, but I knew which of us she’d pick if I ultimated her, and tried to wait her out, and—kind of funnily enough—he ultimately visited for an event, and she decided to leave with him, and I helped them pack his van with her stuff, and she left. So Sugar really came for me with Pearl and Rose’s backstory, even so far as Rose Quartz Ex asking me to take care of her kid if she died.

Just Be Conscious probably gets the most of “me” in how I write Pearl for it, since it’s a human AU and I needed to re-translate canon into a college setting, but I tried to make some bigger backstory changes for her so it wouldn’t just feel like I was writing myself. Art of Bureaucracy is another college AU that I lifted some direct life experience into Pearl for, and I think some of my reviewers spotted the exact lines where I did. 

There was a very self-indulgent fic-turned-RP that I’ll never get to finish or post where I kind of just crammed even more of my unmitigated angst onto Pearl, and that one was at least canon-based, but it’ll never get finished. 

A lot of Amethyst’s personality and dynamic with Pearl comes from @thoughttrainderailed being stuck with me since we were in middle school, though, and I am in fact in love with my best friend, so the Pearlnet with a side of Amethyst screaming “GAAAAAY” across the room? That’s just how it be like.
