When McGee wrote his book, Deep Six, he based all the characters on the other agents and coworkers at NCIS. That’s fine, it’s perfectly normal to take some inspiration from real life. What’s not normal is to write basic clones of your coworkers, except to emphasize their worst aspects. Furthermore, what’s worse, is that the character that McGee based on Jimmy Palmer, the character uncreatively named Pimmy Jalmer, had fantasies of copulating with corpses.

What kind of person do you have to be to write that kind of slander about a coworker? If he’d bothered to come up with original characters, that would be one thing. But he didn’t. His characters weren’t even remotely original. He didn’t bother to hide the fact that he was basing them off his coworkers. Everyone at NCIS knew exactly who he was talking about.

Imagine how that must have felt for Jimmy. To go to work with these people everyday, knowing that they had all read this book where a character based on you wanted to sleep with dead bodies- it must have been humiliating. And what had Jimmy done to McGee? What had he done to deserve that kind of treatment from McGee? Nothing. He had never bullied McGee, never insulted him, never been rude to him. Jimmy was perfectly polite to McGee and how was he rewarded? By McGee bullying him. Because that’s what it is. McGee decided that Jimmy Palmer was weaker than him, and therefore could be bullied by him.

What McGee did to Jimmy in his book was inexcusable. It was uncalled for. It was beyond unnecessary. It was disgusting. It was defamation of character, plain and simple. Jimmy deserved better. He deserved to have a coworker who could be arsed to show him some basic human decency, but McGee couldn’t be bothered to do that.
