Obscure Animation Subject #121: Shorty McShorts' Shorts

This is Disney’s own take at doing a series of test pilots in one banner similar to Oh Yeah Cartoons and What a Cartoon. This take was done relatively later in 2006, which is late, but since Nick has Random Cartoons which is a series of test pilots from the 2000s, I don’t see why not.

And the result, HOLY CRAP ITS TERRIBLE! I can’t believe that almost every cartoon from the series are just poorly made and look cheap. The writing is also very barebones, with boring stereotypes and so forth. This show isn’t even funny, the humor is mostly just cool and hip stuff that’s so dated, and didn’t I even forget the animation?! Almost every short is animated in flash and it’s just lazy for the most part. Even seasons 2 and 3 of Johnny Test have better animation than these shorts!

So yeah, it sucks indeed. The total runtime of the series is just over an hour, and yet it feels like a slog to get through. I can’t recommend this to anyone unless your curious or something. The fact that one series was greenlit, but not greenlit by Disney just shows how much of a failure this is!

Thinking about the character José from the Disney Shezow pilot and what he would look like in the modern style. Like make a episode where he returns and Maz gets jealous.

Also have all three Edd boys voice in the same cartoon since Double D and Ed's voices are in it. Eddy's not there. But it would be cool if all three voice actors came back to voice together.

Forgot José was in love with Shezow in that pilot and didn't know Shezow was Guy Hamdon the whole time. That got changed in the modern one.

i 🩷 posting stupid 1st draft scripts of random things. please take five pages of my very own Shezow reboot pilot. the hyperfixation is getting badddddd bad i need to be rescued, badly. next thing you know i'll be posting my suit redesigns.

anywho....

this isn't perfect script format, i'm still learning, but i've been enjoying this writing style a ton! definitely something i want to do wayyy more.

the text is way too descriptive of camera angles but i dont really care. i had like a very clear idea of how i wanted this to look in my head and couldn't draw up a storyboard (maybe i will one day, though) so i just typed it all out. word vomit ftw y'all.

This is your occasional reminder that Cybersix and Shezow already exist and are already great as they are but if they rebooted it should be with the creators so they can give us the stories they always intended and it's all of our duty to keep them the fuck out of the hands of meddling media.

And Cybersix needs to be released with official translations in more languages. I'd like to read it some day.

You know, if we made the intended audience older we could get in to the stuff with former BFF Tara not knowing the Shezow she was friends with has died and the new one who doesn't recognize her is a replacement. And they should bring back Jose from the pilot to have a crush on you. The foundation is there.

I don't usually do shit like this, but my love of Shezow compelled it. Shezow wasn't a "sissy/crossdressing" kink thing. Obie Scott Wade has said before, the reason he made Shezow was because he grew up watching Shazam and wondered what would happen if Billy accidentally said "Shezam" and if it would turn him into a female superhero instead. I don't know why there are so many odd rumours about Shezow when he's been so open about it

Yeah I couldn’t find anything to support that ask either. I prefer to not view all my childhood show creators as bad people. Maybe I didn’t look hard enough, and if anyone has evidence to support these rumors I’ll look into them.

I think the rumors come from the over fetishization of media, everything has to have an ulterior motive, they just can’t be whimsical or innocent. People are also a bit jaded when it comes to the creators of childhood media these days, with so many being not good people.

Also couldn’t find anything to support that ask saying SheZow was supposed to be a trucker?? The pilot was similar to the show and it makes much more sense for a show marketed to teenagers to be about a teenager. Children’s shows are almost always about children so they can relate to the main character, I probably wouldn’t have loved SheZow as a kid if it was just some dude.
