i should try drawing Ocobans (well. just Sammy.) again but with other species as contrast, bc i think that'd help me with emphasizing the torso length.

definitely want to draw them with a Sigurayan and Hocotatian (probably Kit and Louie) to have all the Weird Long Proportion guys together, but i think having someone with more normal proportions who's around the same height would add something . dont know who to use tho

@captnumbers my calling it 'lore' might be stretching it a bit, but the first 3 games have a very direct continuity; [pikmin 1] olimar crashes on pnf-404[it's just post-earth], olimar, in the good ending, reconstructs his ship and goes home [pikmin 2] then he finds out his boss has gone turbo bankrupt so he goes back to earth again to treasure hunt to get them out of the hole. i have not actually played pikmin 3 past the demo but you play as a different squad hunting a different sort of 'valuables', and when you get to earth it's very directly stated in the beginning, in a mission log file that olimar left behind, that he died in one of his treasure-hunting ventures. [as far as i've heard this turns out to not actually be true later on? i don't know through what means or anything though]

pikmin 4 starts out like "olimar crash landed on pnf-404, befriended a dog, and then called a rescue team". and then the game is you playing as that rescue team. which uh... well...

in the pikmin 1 BAD ending, you sort of just run out of air and die there. not LITERALLY dead bc he gets turned into a pikmin kinda thing so he's still Alive in whatever sense, but he very much gets permanently trapped alone on an alien world. so yknow.

i don't say this to exaggerate and be edgy, that feeling is very much intentional and central to the first game's tone/experience. pikmin is by no means presented as a horror game, and things only continue to get more hopeful as you progress, but the notion of You Are Alone Here, And You May Not Make It Out never lets up until you DO make it out.

so to take that and be like "its ok!!!! olimar has guys coming for him he'll be ok!!! you gotta save olimar!! you're the star rookie you can do this you cool hero!!" feels uh. maybe in poor form with how the series established itself.

while the gameplay is objectively good and i'm totally fine with a lore rewrite in theory, pikmin 4 essentially turning the whole series into 'olimar's happy little rescue squad' is actually leaving way more of a bad taste in my mouth than is probably fair...

also that one Pik3 thing where Brittany's comments on the grapes include how Charlie was rumoured to paint his dog the same colour. Came up with a name that starts with F (Alph, Brittany, Charlie, Drake, Elizabeth, F_). Spunky lil guy. Maybe a childhood dog bc now his life is solely devoted to Elizabeth the Duck (and maybe also saving Koppai).

some dingo bc he's so funny. i give him different eye colours every time because uhhhh. ummm. People from Ohri can change eye colour, yeah. I definitely totally absolutely don't just lack consistency and wanted to try different colours

Hermikmin headcanon (Piklopedia says that Rock Pikmin and Ice Pikmin are both basically a Pikmin parasite living with an external shell and the Rock Pikmin's are dubbed Hermikmin). Brain said "WHAT IF BULBMIN??" and thought about the bean-shaped concept Pikmin and how long limbs would help with such dense shells.

also an idea for Moldy Pikmin bc the Toxstool is a super cool enemy

Why would you add vents to escape caves if you can leave them at any point without losing anything anyway??

I kinda get the feeling they added that last minute. Maybe this game was meant to be harder?

Or maybe they added it so that players can choose how to play on their own.

Tbh if you would have told me that I'd do the sage leaf trials a second time some months ago, I'd have killed you on the spot.
