✰ matt giving you a piggyback ride when your feet get tired

your feet were so sore.

the trail you and matt were hiking on felt like it dragged on forever, the twists the path took around every other corner were exhausting. it’s not that you weren’t used to hiking—this particular trail was just long.

matt was walking ahead, leaving you behind to drag your feet. each step felt like needles digging into the skin, making you wince as your body started to limp slightly.

suddenly you stopped, taking a deep breath as your body shifted on each foot. “matt? baby i don’t think i can keep going.” you called out, your words getting his attention, making him turn around.

he noticed the way your body shifted, the pain written on your face. he frowned, striding over to you. “why didn’t you say anything sooner sweetheart? you look like you’ve been hurting for a while.” he said, bringing his hand up to gently rub your arm.

you shook your head, sighing. “i didn’t want to ruin the walk. i mean, i haven’t had a problem before.” you admitted. matt just shook his head, his face softening. “you wouldn’t ruin the walk baby. here-“ his body shifted, turning around before getting down onto one of his knees. “-c’mon, get on.”

your eyes widened. “what? matt no, i can’t ask you to do that.” you protested, taking a step back. his head turned to look over his shoulder, “i’m offering, now c’mon. i’m not gonna make you walk the rest of the way if your feet are hurting you.”

you went to open your mouth again in protest, but quickly decided against it. so you stepped forward, your arms wrapped around his shoulders as you wrapped your legs around his torso. his hands quickly grabbed your legs, holding them as he stood up, hiking you higher.

you couldn’t help but giggle as he situated you in his back before he began to walk. “feel okay back there?” he asked, and you nodded letting out a small ‘yeah’ in return. you could feel the dull ache in your feet after getting your weight off them, it hurt. but it made you sigh in relief.

“how about i give you a massage when we get home sweetheart. does that sound nice?” matt said, gripping your legs a little tighter.

you smiled. “that would be perfect.”

WELL, I DID THIS. It fought me every step of the way, the simplicity of it is deceptive. BUT, I did it! I don't know where I got the idea of The Doctor giving Ruby a piggy back ride, but wherever it came from it stuck and I painted it.
