"For the first time, genetically modified pig kidneys provided “life-sustaining kidney function” during the course of a planned seven-day clinical study—a first step in addressing the critical crisis worldwide of kidney donor organ shortage.
The University of Alabama’s pre-clinical human study at Birmingham also advances the science and promise of xenotransplantation as a therapy to potentially cure end-stage kidney disease—just as a human-to-human transplants can.
“It has been truly extraordinary to see the first-ever preclinical demonstration that appropriately modified pig kidneys can provide normal, life-sustaining kidney function in a human safely and be achieved using a standard immunosuppression regimen,” said UAB transplant surgeon scientist Jayme Locke, M.D., director of UAB’s Comprehensive Transplant Institute and lead author of the paper...
The peer-reviewed findings published last month in JAMA Surgery describes the pioneering pre-clinical human research performed on a recipient experiencing brain death...
The pre-clinical human brain death model developed at UAB can evaluate the safety and feasibility of pig-to-human kidney xenografts, or transplants, without risk to a living human. It is named for transplant pioneer Jim Parsons, an organ donor whose family generously donated his body to advance xenotransplant kidney research, like the latest patient did.
A Critical Need
Kidney disease kills more people each year than breast or prostate cancer, while more than 90,000 people are on the transplant waiting list. More than 800,000 Americans are living with kidney failure and 240 Americans on dialysis die every day. The wait for a deceased donor kidney can be as long as five to 10 years, and almost 5,000 people per year die waiting for a kidney transplant.
Groundbreaking Study Details
The 52-year-old study subject for this research lived with hypertension and stage 2 chronic kidney disease, which affects more than one in seven U.S. adults, or an estimated 37 million Americans. As part of this study, the subject had both of his native kidneys removed and dialysis stopped, followed by a crossmatch-compatible xenotransplant with two 10 gene-edited pig kidneys, or UKidney.
The transplanted pig kidneys made urine within four minutes of re-perfusion and produced more than 37 liters of urine in the first 24 hours. The pig kidneys continued to function as they would in a living human for the entirety of the seven-day study. Also, the kidneys were still viable at the time the study was concluded.
“In the first 24 hours these kidneys made over 37 liters of urine,” said Dr. Locke. “It was really a remarkable thing to see.” ...
Gene editing in pigs to reduce immune rejection has made organ transplants from pigs to humans possible. The natural lifespan of a pig is 30 years, they are easily bred, and they have organs of similar size to humans. Genetically modified pig kidneys have been extensively tested in non-human primates, and the addition of UAB’s preclinical human research model—the Parsons Model—now provides important information about the safety and efficacy of kidneys in human transplant recipients."

“I gathered all vaccine ingredients into a list and contacted Poison Control. After intros and such, and asking to speak with someone tenured and knowledgeable, this is the gist of that conversation.
Me: My question to you is how are these ingredients categorized? As benign or poison? (I ran a few ingredients, formaldehyde, Tween 80, mercury, aluminum, phenoxyethanol, potassium phosphate, sodium phosphate, sorbitol, etc.)
He: Well, that's quite a list... But I'd have to easily say that they're all toxic to humans... Used in fertilizers... Pesticides... To stop the heart... To preserve a dead body... They're registered with us in different categories, but pretty much poisons. Why?
Me: If I were deliberately to feed or inject my child with these ingredients often, as a schedule, obviously I'd put my daughter in harm's way... But what would legally happen to me?
He: Odd question... But you'd likely be charged with criminal negligence... perhaps with intent to kill... and of course child abuse... Your child would be taken away from you... Do you know of someone's who's doing this to their child? This is criminal...
Me: An industry... These are the ingredients used in vaccines... With binding agents to make sure the body won't flush these out... To keep the antibody levels up indefinitely...
The man was beside himself. He asked if I would email him all this information. He wanted to share it with his adult kids who are parents. He was horrified and felt awful he didn't know... his kids are vaccinated and they have health issues...”

1. The IRS plans to crack down on 1,600 millionaires to collect millions of dollars in back taxes

The IRS announced on Friday it is launching an effort to aggressively pursue 1,600 millionaires and 75 large business partnerships that owe hundreds of millions of dollars in past due taxes. The newly announced tax collection effort will begin as soon as October. “We have more hiring to do,” Werfel said. “It’s going to be a very busy fall for us.”
2. The NGO African Parks announced it would purchase the world’s largest population of privately owned white rhinos

3. Mexico supreme court decriminalizes abortion across country

Mexico’s supreme court has unanimously ruled that state laws prohibiting abortion are unconstitutional and violate women’s rights, in the latest in a series of victories for reproductive rights activists across Latin America.
Wednesday’s ruling came two years after the court ordered the northern state of Coahuila to remove sanctions for abortion from its criminal code, a decision which prompted a tortuous state-by-state process of legal battles. So far 12 of Mexico’s 31 states have decriminalized the procedure.
4. The first human organ created inside an animal opens the door to manufacturing ‘spare parts’ for people

For more than a century, scientists have tried to transplant the kidneys of animals into humans. For more than a century, they have failed to get those organs functioning. Now, researchers at the University of Alabama are claiming a first. They have taken the kidneys of a genetically modified pig and successfully transplanted the organs into a brain-dead patient with the permission of his family. Scientists have tried this before with some success, but what sets the current case study apart is that the pig kidneys quickly made urine and cleared the patient's body of creatinine. Creatinine is a broken down part of a waste product produced mainly by our muscle cells and it can only be removed from our bodies via our kidneys through urine. So these are crucial measures of kidney function required to sustain life. No one had succeeded in providing reliable measurements to both before.

About halfway through dungeon meshi and all I can think is that there must be 3,000 fics of the party going to Hannibal's dinner party. Laois is super excited to try human lung when he finds out. Marcile is very angry but instantly changes her mind at how good the food is. Senshi is criticizing Hannibal's technique for human kidney because Hannibal used a barley altered recipe for pig kidney which doesn't take into account subtle differences in flavor. They're eating the Island Lord.

Cheery, always smiling, and sometimes overly enthusiastic about their work, the Nurse is an apprentice to the Medic, and is proud to proclaim that they've learned all they know about the practice of medicine from their mentor - a statement that should terrify anyone who ends up on their operating table. Although their disregard for human life is nowhere near as flagrant as the Medic, their ideas of "improving human life" is more akin to finding a way to give people super-powers through painful experiments than actually performing any type of healing.
Recently the Nurse has found himself infatuated with the Spy, after a fervent, impassioned operation removing a bullet from his kidney. After all, nothing could be more intimate than digging through a man's inner workings with your bare hands, so ever since that day the Nurse has been dedicated to convincing the Spy to be his one and only guinea pig scientific partner. Of course, the Spy isn't anywhere near stupid enough to agree to that arrangement, but a few of the Nurse's experiments have ended up being genuinely useful, plus he feels like a small debt is owed to the Nurse for all the med bay visits, not to mention he's always a ray of sunshine to see... Maybe a few experimental procedures is worth it.

Expanding off my last post (Sanji gets turned into a pig by a Circe-esque sea witch for being his usual idiot self) to say that at some point the Sanji pig does something particularly annoying and Zoro gets pissed off and tries to kick him, and immediately Nami is yelling like “ZORO!!! That is animal abuse!!! 😱😧😡🤬”
And Zoro starts spluttering and says, “But it’s the shit cook!!” but it doesn’t matter, Nami is still rushing up to the pig and hugging it like it’s a baby. Zoro has never seen a pig look so smug. It’s ridiculous. Sanji is suddenly getting more attention from Nami than he ever has in his life and it’s because he’s an adorable pig. Zoro doesn’t stop glaring at him the rest of the day. He’s not fooled, okay? He knows that pig is just the same asshole Sanji has always been.
And yeah. Zoro gets that having beef with a pig does seem a lot more silly than having beef with a full human being who can match him in combat; he gets it, okay? It’s a pig. But the pig is Sanji, and Sanji is a shithead, so he’s not about to start giving the pig special treatment just because it’s a pig. Yes he cuddled the pig all night even after it kept kicking him in the kidneys for no reason. Why the fuck is that relevant? Shut up.

Hello internet stranger! I have a headcannon question for you about the hit 2007 valve game tf2!
Do any of the mercs have a “major” incident (ex: Burning, breaking a window, illegal organ donations)? And what things have been banned from the base because of that incident?
Soldier's list for this is pretty long. Soldier is not allowed to use the microwave, Soldier is not allowed to drive, Soldier is not allowed to create a raccoon uprising, Soldier is not allowed to run around the base naked and covered in honey, Soldier is not allowed to tackle people without giving them fair warning, Soldier is not allowed to... et cetera, et cetera. Does he ever follow these rules? Certainly not!
Pyro's access to flammable material is heavily monitored when they aren't at work, and there's a fire extinguisher right outside their dorm room. Their walls are covered in burn marks, but with the diligence of a certain next door Friendly Engie, we haven't had a repeat of the Great Teufort Fire since '68!
The real reason why Medic operates without anesthesia is because no one trusts him enough to go to sleep on his operating table ever since Scout's liver and pancreas went missing after what was supposed to be a simple kidney stone removal. Of course, he replaced them with newer, better, probably less human ones afterwards, but not everyone is as eager to be a guinea pig as Heavy is!
Sniper isn't allowed to drive off into the wilderness for the weekend without leaving a note of where he's going, the first time he pulled that off there was a lot of chaos and Miss Pauling lost 3 years off her life stressing over why one of the mercenaries was just gone without a trace, meanwhile he just wanted to get away from it all and spend his weekend off camping. So much for 'be professional', right?

BLU Spy headcanon and Sniper pee
What if… BLU Spy was from rural France originally, and not the city?
Because the way he acts, you would assume he’d throw a hissy fit over getting dirt under his nails or something minor like that…
But what if it’s an act? As stuck up as he is, he pretends to be grossed out and prissy about everyday messes to keep up his image. And the only thing that actually grosses him out is human waste like Sniper pee?

Think about it. He doesn’t tell people his name or where he’s from, he doesn’t let them see his face, and he tries to stay aloof. Even to someone as friendly as Soldier. Wouldn’t it make sense to play a part that doesn’t fit your background, so people couldn’t use your behavior to extrapolate your origin?
Animals are not clean, they poop and pee wherever it seems right to them and it accumulates. Farm animals included. And beyond that, gardening and farming requires you to get your hands up in the dirt. But that’s nature, animals don’t have souls and human intelligence. We know what viruses and diseases are; livestock, wildlife and pets do not.
So, in the absence of his suit or reasons to pretend to be a germaphobe, it wouldn’t bother BLU Spy to clean up a horse stable; they need their feces to be taken away so they don’t get worms. It wouldn't bother him to give food scraps to pigs or chickens, and it wouldn’t bother him to get the eggs from the coop.
Walking around cow patties in a field, helping a farm animal with a difficult delivery, and fertilizing a garden or field would not bother him. Killing a farm animal and preparing it to be cooked would not make him squeamish.
But Sniper is a grown man who throws his pee at people intentionally. And to BLU Spy, that’s extra nasty because how does an adult think that’s acceptable behavior? It’s waste; it’s water with all the toxins and ammonia and refuse that your body doesn’t use for energy. And it can make you sick if you get it in an open wound [likely on the battlefield] or drink it, which Snipes may well do.
And it’s probably worse considering the fact that Sniper takes those kidney enlarging pills; they may not be filtering waste out of the body like they were meant to do. I think that when RED Medic brought him back, he replaced his messed up kidneys with some from an exotic animal, since he wouldn’t have gotten the chance prior.

This is an interesting interaction for a few reasons.
The sewage they’re currently walking in is up to Soldier’s knees and almost Spy’s.
Soldier is talking about trench warfare, which is notorious for wet sloppy ground and rats causing gangrene and other illnesses. But the way he talks about it makes it sound less terrible than the situation they’re currently in. I think he was just trying to make conversation, not tell Spy to get over himself because he’s been through worse.
2. Soldier is looking straight ahead while Spy is looking into the water to watch his steps.
Sewage pipes are meant to take feces, pee, and toilet paper away from people to keep them from getting sick. But animals such as rats and random trash end up in the sewers; and given their location, they may well step on a fallen gun, bullets, or an engineer’s tools by mistake.
They’re both being smart in different ways; Soldier is watching for enemies ahead, and Spy is watching for objects that might go through his shoe and cause an infection. Or cause him to slip and get more sewage on himself.
3. In WWI, trench warfare was concentrated in France.
The Germans were trying to take Paris, and the French fought fiercely in the countryside between the city and Belgium, which had already fallen and been razed. WWI had more trench warfare, because the inventions needed to break a stalemate between two trenches of enemy soldiers had to be developed during those years. Chemical warfare like the use of Mustard gas was not condemned legally until after the war at the Geneva convention.
Meanwhile, America was ever the land far away that didn’t suffer the same effects on their land. Their soldiers died, their elderly and children did not. Their farms were not scarred with razor wire and trenches and bullets. But those scars were concentrated in France.
So to Spy -who did not live through the first war, but did hear the stories, and of the rebuilding, and live through WWII- Soldier is the one who hasn’t really been through it. War is hell on all soldiers, but it was a wildly different experience for a foreigner to come in, help, and go back to the land of plenty, than to be a citizen of one of the countries invaded by the N*zis.
4. In WWII, France fell to Germany in stark contrast to their valiant performance in WWI. The Resistance and anyone who tried to save persecuted undesirables were about the only people who showed courage.
I won’t go into so much detail here, since this will be relevant in my Emesis Blue fanfic later, but you should know that the country of France was not heroic and brave in WWII. It brought great shame on their people, even if it was mostly forgotten by the rest of the world later.
So in a way, Soldier being someone who kept up the fight against the Germans makes him “better” than the French military, alongside his platoon. But he would also be unaware of the wider hardships faced by the people of France during those years, as someone who was rushing to stop Germany and on the frontlines. He didn’t live in a village or city in Europe, living the misfortune of the civilians who called that country home. And he didn’t live through the years after the war, when these countries had to rebuild.
Him looking forward and ignoring whatever might be in the water is a good representation of this. So is the fact that he’s the one in front, setting their pace, while Spy is lagging a little.

Read the thousands of peer-reviewed studies that have evaluated the biological consequences these chemicals can have on the body, especially when being injected.
Injecting foreign substances directly into the bloodstream—viruses, toxins, and proteins—has been linked to various diseases and disorders. These include conditions like atypical measles, cancer, leukemia, multiple sclerosis, and even SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

It is more than enough evidence to show that vaccine mandates are completely anti-scientific.
How can you make an informed decision if you do not have all the information?
We have also seen a shift where flu vaccines are now mRNA-based. But does a "vaccine" really prevent a virus or its recurrence as we expect it to?
The annual flu shot is, at best, a partial defense, aimed at last year’s strain. Does it truly help against the ever-mutating new flu, or is it just a temporary fix?
My concern is that this mindset—that a vaccine is a quick fix for everything—is flawed. The immune system may struggle to handle these types of agents, leading to breakthrough infections and potentially higher mortality rates.
For those who are vaccinated, I respect your choice. I simply ask for the same respect in return for my decision not to vaccinate. My reasons are personal and grounded in a belief that the government should not dictate my health choices and my family's.
Have you heard about Pfizer’s side effects?
Have you read the Pfizer documentation? Ask yourself if a drug with 32 pages of side effects is right for you.
The list of potential vaccine side effects released by Pfizer is alarming, ranging from autoimmune disorders to serious conditions like multiple organ dysfunction and sudden respiratory failure. Yet, this information was kept under wraps and only recently made public. Shouldn’t we be informed of the risks?
Do we even know the medium- or long-term effects of these vaccines?
Are they still in clinical trials? Is there a control group? What about Antibody-Dependent Enhancement (ADE) – has it been adequately tested? And why are ingredients like formaldehyde and mercury, known toxins, included in these vaccines?
Do you truly think this vaccine is 100% safe?

We must ask ourselves, do we trust the pharmaceutical companies and their relationships with organizations like the CDC and FDA?
The FDA requested 75 years to release data on the Pfizer vaccine—why? Why did it take only 108 days to approve this vaccine, yet it supposedly requires decades to fully understand its effects?
Do you believe that SARS-CoV-2 has been isolated?
How well-informed are you about the CDC, FDA, pharmaceutical companies, and their donors? Do you think their qualifications are reliable?
These are important questions that deserve honest discussions. And, I believe it is crucial to acknowledge the existence of these alternative perspectives and engage in open discussions to gain a more comprehensive understanding.
Our health and freedom are at stake, and I urge everyone to think critically and seek out all the information before making decisions.

Raising Stripe
chapter 2
If anyone in fourth grade had been told Kenny McCormick would grow up to study genetics, they would have laughed. Everyone who knew Kenny knew he only had two things on his mind: women and food. They were right of course, but in his freshman year, Kenny's beloved little sister, Karen, had landed in the hospital. Karen had contracted an aggressive infection that had ruined her kidney function. Kenny had fortunately been a match and he worked hard to pay off the hospital bills.
The experience had been life changing for Kenny. His sister had been fortunate to find a donor in him, but visiting her at the hospital had introduced him to people that had been waiting for years for a viable match. He found himself paying more attention during biology class and reading medical magazines during Karen’s doctor appointments. When he graduated, he was determined to pursue a career in genetics. Unfortunately between gaining guardianship of Karen and paying off lingering debt, Kenny had no money to pay for college.
Undeterred, he approached the eccentric genetics professor, Dr. Mephesto, and explained his circumstances. The doctor agreed to take him in as a lab assistant and Kenny was excited to be able to study genetics under Dr. Mephesto.Despite working hard to prove himself to the doctor, Kenny was only tasked with odd jobs and chores. During lunch and breaks he would study and write down ideas for projects. Kenny tried to share his research with Dr. Mephesto, but unless it included butts the professor was uninterested. Overtime Kenny gave up on engaging with the professor and began to secretly work on his projects.
Kenny decided to focus his projects on the reason he became invested in genetics, organ transplant. The patients in the hospital had been kept waiting for years due to limited numbers of compatible organs. Kenny knew he couldn't make people give up their organs so he decided to look into growing human organs in animals. Dr. Mephesto had already done the groundwork by growing extra butts on all types of animals, so Kenny only had to do minimal work to achieve his goals. He successfully grew human ears, noses, and all sorts of body parts. Kenny kept his research a secret and continued to complete Dr. Mephesto’s demands.
This morning Kenny was tasked with picking up a new lab rat that had been donated by the local vet clinic. He was pleasantly surprised to see a healthy looking guinea pig. Usually lab animals donated by the clinic were critically ill or disfigured. He didn't question it and made a note to set it aside for his personal experiment. He knew the doctor didn't keep track of all his lab animals so hiding the little guy wouldn't cause any trouble.
When he arrived at the genetics lab he placed the new guinea pig in a cage in his private room. He began to sweep and mop all the rooms in the building. He fed all the lab animals and cleaned their cages. He organized the professor's notes and filed them in the correct folders. He was well invested in his work when the doorbell rang.
Kenny was pleasantly surprised to see his old classmates, Tweek and Craig. He wished he could say he was more surprised to receive a punch from Craig.

Right now, kidney failure treatments involve hours spent hooked up to a dialysis machine, or a donor transplant – which are scarce. But there's hope of a new option in the not-too-distant future: an artificial kidney implant. Scientists have developed a bioreactor device that uses human kidney cells cultured in the lab and mimics some of the key functions of a kidney. It's been successfully tested in pigs for a week with no obvious side effects or issues. The team, led by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), is hopeful that their device can be adapted to include a broader range of kidney cell types and be paired with another instrument to filter waste from the blood.
