Wedge-tailed Eagle swimming in the Pieman river
One of the most incredible experiences of my life... As we were going down the Pieman River one eagle flew about 5 metres above us, followed a second later by two more. They were chasing it and finally attacked in front of our eyes. The eagle fell in the river and started swimming to shore... amazing. Read the full article

Corinna... Dawn on the Pieman River. I stood on the Fatman Barge and gazed up river towards the approaching day. @lifecatchme and I shared this perfect sunrise together on our recent trip to the West Coast of @Tasmania. So still and calm, we waited for the light. It was that moment of peace when words a few and for me I am most peace. I can exist as myself before my responsibilities start ticking away and comfortable routine takes over - the next time I'll feel this relaxed again is when I'm falling asleep... what is your favourite time of day? #Corinna #Piemanriver #Tasmania

The last wisps of mist hang over the Pieman River as the boat returns to Corinna after a sunrise cruise. ... You want reflections, the river is the place to be. Garry, our boat captain for the morning stopped the boat and let us slowly drift into dock so that we could enjoy the mirror views of just how beautiful the river could be for sunrise. ... The sun had competition with that still, glassy river. _________________________ The boat you see is the Arcadia II. Kate, @loves_laughs and I did our Pieman Heads cruise on her. Build from Huon Pine, and at 75 years old, she holds the attention whenever you see her on the river. #discovertasmania #ruggedluxury #tasmanianstorytellers #piemanriver #corinna #sunrise #arcadiaII #westcoast #tasmania (at Corinna, Pieman River)

Pieman River... So our new mate Garry (he clarified that Garry has 2 R's) took us up the Pieman in the Sweetwater. He took us to Nancy Creek where people still prospect for gold and which is only assessable by water. We explored the labyrinth of submerged timber in Whyte River. The clear summer sky didn't offer us a colourful show but as the sun rose higher, the tops of the rainforest were painted gold. The boat moved along the river, the sun breathed the promise of the new day. On the approach back to #Corinna, Garry stopped the boat and allowed the river to return to glass. He let us drift along with the outgoing tide. "By the time we get back the sun will be completely above the hill" he said. I knew then that his connection to nature was as deep as mine, the rhythm of the seasons, delight in the daily and still unique sunrise and to treasure the things which can't be purchased - to me, that's the essence of Corinna. #PiemanRiver #DiscoverTasmania #reflection #rainforest #sunrise #TasmanianStorytellers @lifecatchme has an incredible picture of the river including the golden treetops, I think it's beautiful!

Pieman River - when @lifecatchme and I visited #Corinna this weekend we were welcomed by Garry. He shook our hands and the first question we asked him was where could we shoot the sunrise. He offered us the options of a 2 hour walk up a mountain in the dark (neither of us had the shoes) or we could drive up to a plateau and watch the dawn stretch across button grass plains. We were all for that idea!! We caught up with Garry at dinner time when he asked us (rather excitedly) if we wanted to go up river to watch the dawn. We met him at a chilly 6am, he had a smile and no shoes. In the chill before dawn, fog blankets the rainforest and the river is washed with mist. This moment was sacred and timeless. Can you feel the chill in the air and smell the forest? #TasmanianStorytellers #DiscoverTasmania #Piemanriver

Stillness and Movement..watching time go by. ____________________ I'm back in Hobart after a four day road trip to Tassie's West Coast with Kate @loves_laughs ... and now I've got a real desire to go back and discover more about the incredible Tarkine region that I was in. A region of trees, mountains, rivers, coastal beaches, all wild and natural. Very little in 'modern' amenities yet richly overflowing in space, time and beauty. Geez, I have a lot to process. Hehe....be prepared for some 'essays' as I go through the last four days! _________________ This is a shot from Sunday's sunrise river trip on the Pieman River upstream from Corinna. Moving along the river as the sun began to rise I watched the almost glass reflections in the water of the surrounding banks. It was a most tangible experience of watching time go by! ___________ Corinna is an Eco Wilderness town. Don't go expecting to be connected via the Internet here, there is none. But go and get surprised at how connected to nature you'll get! _______________ #discovertasmania #tasmanianstorytellers #ruggedluxury #corinna #piemanriver #reflections (at Corinna Wilderness Experience)

Lovers Falls Walk... On the banks of the Pieman River, the dense rainforest is punctuated by many creeks and smaller outflows. I was quite intrigued by this doorway surrounded by the thick Leatherwood foliage. A quick 10 minute walk along boardwalk takes you to Lovers Falls - delicate, misty Amelia Creek floats softly to the pool below before drifting dreamily to the river. The falls are accessible only by water. You can hire a kyayk or canoe from The Tarkine Hotel or bring your own watercraft- we had the pleasure of cruising here on the Sweetwater and our skipper Tony gave us a brief history of time. We cruised about 10 kms down the Pieman River and were astounded by the beautiful glassy water and reflections. The trees grow down to the waterline and upon entering the rainforest, you can appreciate the steep, slippery, mossy terrain is no place for mere mortals. I'm glad that this place could never be tamed. #Corinna #LoversFalls #PiemanRiver #DiscoverTasmania

So much of @tasmania 's West Coast is about trees, forests, rivers and water. Today, Kate @loves_laughs and I experienced all these elements, culminating on a sand blasted ocean beach at Pieman Heads. A four hour round trip on the Huon Pine boat the Arcadia II leaving Corinna for the 20 km trip up the Piemen River, we berthed and then walked a coastal path to reach this beach. It. Blew. My. Mind. _____________ On the beach were huge logs, ocean washed and battered over many years, some partly submerged in sand. Then the biting wind carrying sand that bit into my legs and somehow made it into my mouth but was totally invigorating. And, the ocean! Tannin stained to a dark drown as if inked. The waves breaking on shore were being blown back with the sea foam almost tendril like being thrown into the air. It was wild. It was wonderful. It's the West Coast. It's the Tarkine. _____ The Arcadia II does this trip daily, 365 days a year. It's a great way to #discovertasmania and hear the stories and lore of this area and recount them as #tasmanianstorytellers experiencing #ruggedluxury ... #piemanriver #corinna #westcoast (at Pieman Heads)

Pieman Heads... 20 km up river from Corinna on the West Coast of @Tasmania. The heads are pounded by endless wind and waves from the Roaring 40's trade winds and the sandy shores are littered with huge driftwood logs. We got here at low tide and the sand formed dunes and sculptures around each log. Remember the beautiful Arcadia in my last picture? We rode her all the way here and were treated to bestest ever ham wrap made by deckhand Lis... Together with skipper Tony, they provided entertainment and the history of this wild and beautiful place. #TasmanianStorytellers #discovertasmania #corinna #piemanriver

Arcadia II - Heavenly in more than just her name. This lovely lady is approximately 75 years old and is the oldest huon pine passenger boat in use today. She was built in Hobart and worked there until she rendered Qualifying Service and was enlisted in the war effort in World War 2. She ended up in New Guinea and into the Phillipines until she was repatriated back to Australia. Here she is, sleeping elegantly upon the Pieman River this morning. She runs the river on an almost daily basis, granting shore leave to passengers at Pieman Heads. The four hour cruise is an educational, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable way to explore this beautiful wilderness country. #TasmanianStorytellers #DiscoverTasmania #piemanriver #corinna
