B is so cute. He came to me, very serious, asking if we could talk. And then, equally serious, laid out a proposal for a trip to Costa Rica at a nice resort. The caveat was that the trip would cater specifically to pickleball-players. So he would be pickle-balling all morning every day of the trip, with optional afternoon play. And he hastened to tell me that he would still have lunch and dinner with me daily and that we could make afternoon plans most days, and that there were options for partners of players who didn’t pickle themselves, like massages and scuba diving and such.

And I was like. Hold the phone, my love. Are you saying you want to take me to a veritable paradise for a week in which the only planned part of my days are meals, and I’m otherwise free to swim in the ocean and lounge poolside while reading and writing and I don’t have to worry that I’m ignoring you because you’ll be occupied having fun with your nerdy sports friends?

And he was like “…yes?”

So anyway. I now have a writing retreat/reading vacation to look forward to that happens to coincide with B’s pickleball retreat.

Some activities from the last few days! I got my friends to do a little run we me after work last week.

I made the blackberry caramel tart for a friend's birthday! I'm so happy with how it turned out.

its so funny being Sort Of into pickleball

my husband plays three times a week (at least) and i go along with him on a friday because i love him and its pretty fun but its £8.50 each time and i only like it enough to pay that once a week

and everyone is SO CONCERNED that i only go once a week - they’re always like ‘oh so when are we gonna see you on thursdays? are you coming to the college on tuesday?’ and im like oh haha just fridays for me thanks

and every time my husband is there without me he gets asked ‘where’s fletcher??’ and he has to be like ‘oh he only likes it once a week’ and it just doesnt compute

Sparkstember Day 30: 'A metaphor is a pickleball court...'

So literally on the afternoon of Hello Young Lovers day I was reminded of this absolutely (and intentionally) ludicrous article from the New York Times last year and it struck me and reading the words MALE and LONELINESS next to one another set off the Metaphor alarm in my brain. So rather than hold this one over until next September 20th, here it is now before the pickleball craze is just a forgotten cultural reference.

I'm sure this was talked to death back in the early days of the fandom back when both were big, but do we think Bill Cipher would love or hate the citizens of Night Vale? Like it's such a weird place already that Weirdmageddon wouldn't be that far from a particularly interesting week, and if it's not enough he could always go to whatever new Desert Bluffs Kevin set up in the desert otherworld (idk if that's still a thing, I'm so behind on wtnv again). Though he may find himself in a turf war with the Smiling God in that case and I'm seriously not sure who'd win. But like, if Bill was capable of chilling out a bit and going for lower-grade weirdness and slightly less sadism, Night Vale would probably tolerate him pretty easily. (Unless he messed with the resident scientist of course.)
