So, I've been thinking
I was remembering, or should I say, recapitulating chapter seven of the show and I was also thinking about the plot twist of Zatz being the next or the true Puma Warrior of the prophecy and Picchu's sacrifice.
More specifically, in the scene where Picchu sacrifices himself for his friends (his family by choice), he gives Chimi his...medallion? This thing:
In this scene, I personally would liked Picchu to give the medallion to Zatz. Let's just think about it, the plot twist itself is well built but I feel that they should have put more meaning into it. I mean, it would be Picchu who would give Zatz the title of Puma Warrior, and already for chapter 8 where Zatz's past revealed to us, where he comes and his origin, it would make more sense why he give it to him and also why he had a puma as his battle cat and why he was the one who went to look for and talk to the barbarians.
Really, I would have loved to see Picchu hand the medallion over to Zatz, saying something like "Take care of them for me...".
He was literally giving him his trust, and Zatz would obviously be going to make good on that promise.
I'm also not saying that it was a mistake that Picchu gave his medallion to Chimi, the truth is, it was a great success because Chimi was the one he loved the most. It does make sense why he gave it to her.
"Don't forget me..."
I'm satisfied with the final result, however.

Maya and The Three: a general analysis
Today, I bingewatched Maya and The Three (will be shortened to Mat3 from now on), from episode 1 to 9, generally because of a good friend of mine, @rainbowcutie1789 . If not for her, than I'd probably would not even know anything about the show. And by the way, this was a part of a game of Truth or Dare that I played with her (I dared myself and her that we'd watch our favorite shows. She watches my favorite, I watch her favorite), She's watching Ren & Stimpy, by the way (she likes it quite a bit)
This post has (spoilers) for the show, but Let's start!
Plot
Mat3 is a linear show consisting of 9 episodes, and its plot is Maya going on an adventure with the three warriors (Rico - The Rooster, Chimi - The Skull and Picchu - The Puma) as a part of the true Prophesy (hence why the main group are at times called "The Prophecy Friends") to defeat Lord Mictlan (the main antagonist of the show). The show will probably take around ~4:30-5 hours for ya.
Characters
Maya - the poster girl of the series*
*a poster girl (out of "poster boy") is when a character (usually the main character, female in this case) becomes the character that the show is generally associated with and appears as the main focus in promotional material such as, well, posters.
Maya is one of the main characters of the show and (as I said) the poster girl of the series. She's half-human, half-god (so a demigod), being the biological daughter of Lady Micte, the goddess of death and King Teca (guess who he is). She's raised by King Teca and Queen Teca (her stepmother). It's basically confirmed in the show that she falls in love with Zatz, one of her former enemies, former emissiary of Lord Mictlan and the son of Camazotz.
In a nutshell, Maya's generally a brave, adventurous girl.
Great MC and poster girl, 9/10
Zatz - The Prince of Bats, poster boy of the series?
Zatz is the prince of bats, being sort of the poster boy of the series, but mostly because of his handsome design, with a generally glorious, but Gothic-like appearance, as he derives from The Underworld (hell?). As I said, he's Maya's romantic partner, that's why I put him right next to Maya in this post.
Can't say much about the guy, but he's a chill dude, 9/10
Rico - The Rooster (hehe he's like Rico from Brawl Stars)
Rico's generally my favorite character in this show because of his personality. He's just a silly talkative guy! He's a magician and he can use two types, one from his apparently sentient staff Estefan (hehe, get it?) and his more powerful and dangerous type, peasant magic. He's generally a really expressive character for me, that's why he's my favorite.
He was cowardly at first, as we learn from his backstory that
(SPOILER ALERT) when he was at his (likely first) magic talent show, he made fun at by other people when he tried to do magic and he used his Peasant magic, in turn destroying the Luna Auditorium as a whole.
He did start to embrace his magic and used his peasant magic and eventually Estefan.
I love him! Such a silly little guy! 10/10 character.
Chimi - The Skull
Chimi comes from the jungle and was raised there, as she was feared by her people for being albino (and thus, having a very pale look) (being called "Monstruo Blanco" (White Monster))
She's grown to be an excellent archer and somehow speaks perfect English, despite being raised in the jungle?
She paints her face like a skull, likely for her deceased mother, hence why Picchu calls her "Bones girl".
Cool ass character, 10/10
Picchu - The Puma (hehe, his name is like Pichu the Pokemon)
Picchu is the barbarian of the main group. Mercy is his motivation, as he thinks that it's something that he wouldn't give, but it's who he was. He also doesn't really have that much knowledge in English, so he messes up with the language quite a bit.
A Barbaric, but kind guy, 9/10
Lord Mictlan - The Main Antagonist of the show
Lord Mictlan has a badass design and I absolutely LOVE how he can just split his face in half at times. He is the main antagonist though.
10/10 design, 9/10 character.
Minor Characters
Here, I'll mention some side characters of the show
Grand Bruja - I'm only mentioning her because she has a goofy design, with her using her nose for battle once.
Grand Brujo (not to be confused with his daughter, Grand Bruja) - also has a goofy design
Ah Puch - there are three of Ah Puch, I love that.
Camazotz (Zatz' father), Vucub - They have badass designs.
Zyanya - Camazotz' wife and Zatz' mother. She has a funny name. (Not meaning to offend her)
Now, the qualities
The Qualities
The animation and visuals are absolutely amazing! There are moments in the show where the characters just pop out of the movie format and get to the borders of the 16:9 format, mostly in action scenes.
Speaking of the action scenes, they are SICK. I love them.
The animation in general is expressive and smooth, always what I like about something!
The character designs are great all around, from beautiful, to badass, to goofy. The visuals are basically movie-standard!
The voice acting is great! Not much to say more about it.
The show itself
The first 8 episodes are great, with episode 1 introducing us to the Teca and Maya herself, episodes ~2-6 introduces us to the Prophecy friends, as she's figured out, again, the true prophecy after (spoiler alert) she sees symbols on her brothers' graves, them being Rooster, Skull and Puma.
The ninth episode, The Sun and The Moon, however is the final one and is about the main group and their allies defeating Lord Mictlan. It's AMAZING, it's an episode that rivals with my favorite episode of Ren & Stimpy, "The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen". Both episodes hold special places in my heart, albeit, the Yaksmen episode has a more special place but Mat3's ninth episode is close.
General rating
It's a really great show that would take you only around ~4:30-5 hours long with amazing visuals and lovable characters!
10/10 series!

Sadurday
oh come on did you really think I wouldn't have any time for our weekly sadurday???
Next topic....Picchu!!!
OK for some reason I had trouble finding the GIF of Picchu and his parents hugging when he died so pretend it's up there.
Picchu died a warrior's death just like he wanted. I'm gonna be honest right here but ummm well I kinda...didn't cry when he died cause at that point I only cared for Maya and Zatz!!! But he wanted a warrior's death as you all remember since he gave mercy to that bog warrior that bog warrior killed everyone but Picchu to make him feel horrible for what he did, and he did feel horrible about what he did until he learned that mercy is not something you do but something you give. He died by giving his friends time to get out of the underworld and went at it with the gods you then see Picchu pretty much in heaven with his parents and Zatz's skull puma, Collmillo. 😥

I have a theory regarding the origin of Zatz
Have we noticed that there is a small possibility that Zatz is descended from Puma on his mother's side? It is possible that they belong to a sort of lower cultural class or even distant relatives taking into account the fact that their mother's dialect is quite similar to the cougars than the bracelet she gives it to before saying goodbye. a symbol of a cougar on one of the beads and not to mention that when Picchu sacrifices himself to save his friends we find out that Zatz's animal partner was actually a PUMA which was something that surprised even Picchu.
Many also asked me why Zatz's parents were being chased by those unknown black warriors in my head. There are three possibilities, the first would be that those warriors are part of the same marauding organization that was responsible for the death of Picchu's family and that probably also was looting villages or even knowing of the existence of a newborn demigod baby present, another possibility would be that those knights were sent by Mictlan himself who could be furious at the absence of his general and as punishment for his disobedience he was responsible by the death of your child's mother/his partner (I don't know if wife is the correct term) and finally criterion to pluck out your child's eye, in the third and last possibility Zatz you considering a threat or even a white El monstro blanco like that with Chimmi for being born with white skin and hair (which he inherited from his father, who despite having a mohawk, he also has white hair) or for being the son of the god of bats (by the way for me the reason Zatz's skin is pale is because technically tied he is half vampire and vampires are common to have pale skin, even access dark in the flashback I'm pretty sure Zyanya's skin didn't look as pale as her son's).

I think my sister loves me😊. Look what she got me for Christmas!
This art book is FULL of facts! I’ll share some too. Not all of course. If you want the full descriptions, character and landscape facts, and creator commentary. You’ll have to order it yourselves. I’ll only share the ones I found most important and fascinating. For those who won’t get the book.
Eagle Claw’s three skulls represented Maya’s brothers.
Chimi was Jorge’s nickname for Sandra when they started dating in high school.
Rico was named after Puerto Rico.
Picchu after Machu Picchu.
Jorge came up with Picchu while playing D&D and listening to Conan the Barbarian soundtrack.
Chiapa has a skull spot for every victory he’s had.
Zatz was designed to be complementary to Maya. Her hair is black, his hair is white. Her colors are warm and organic, his colors are cold and unnatural. Most of her shapes are circles, most of his shapes are triangles. His iris is red since it’s Maya’s most dominant face paint color and he only has an “eye for her.”(😍) His name is based on his father’s. His armor is based off his father as well.
Zatz’s fangs mostly show when he’s really angry. His hair is also shaped like bat wings.
Camazotz was designed after Zatz. His relationship with Zyanya is a love letter inspiration from 1946 Beauty and the Beast.😋
Mictlan’s body is made out of the blood of fallen warriors. He believes all mankind is ultimately wicked like himself.
Xtabay is actually the headdress, her body is an illusion.
The Ah Puch are the celestials. (I knew it!)
Colibrí was meant to reflect Maya’s situation. Her palace was amazing but it was still a cage for her free spirit.
The Gran Brujo was inspired by Mr. T. He was Rico’s grandfather too. The Gran Bruja is his aunt. (That I didn’t know!)
Skulls on skulls on skulls was pretty much the direction Jorge gave the Jungle Lands. It was his chance to go skull crazy, so he did.
The Jungle Lands’ King was slightly based off old man Xibalba in The Book of Life.
For the Golden Mountains, since Maya would eventually turn into the sun in this world, they decided to stay away from the classic image of the sun that Incan culture is known for. Instead they made the kingdom obsessed with the image of pumas to set up Picchu, and later Zatz, as the “Puma Warrior” from Maya’s true prophecy. (It seemed obvious Zatz took over for Picchu as the Pump Warrior of the prophecy.)
Picchu’s parents both carried golden axes which he inherited till he rejoined them. (Aww)
Jorge from the start wanted to go against the implication that “barbarians” don’t have kindness or empathy. Picchu’s arc of forgiveness and eventual redemption is one of his favorites in the story. (I can respect that.)
The golems of Mictlan’s army were made from the divine gate.
The Underworld was littered with the remains of ancient fallen gods Mictlan had slain. (I looked closely, they are😨.)
Mictlan’s throne room is meant to look like they’re standing inside the mouth of a giant serpent, foreshadowing the final showdown between Maya and Lord Mictlan.
The door to the throne looked closely upon can be made out Mictlan’s foreshadowed transformation into a giant two headed serpent.
The massive obsidian claw of the Underworld staircase, referencing Mictlan’s claws, that is reaching out to grab a giant skeleton spine is meant to sell the idea that the Underworld was not a good place and souls could never escape.
The colors of the scenes imply the mood settings. For example: Picchu is introduced into a cold color palette to make him feel even warmer. Once his parents were gone all color disappears. Maya and her friends slowly bring him back into color.
Foreshadowing his eventual transformation into the moon, the romantic “dance fight” between Maya and Zatz was meant to look like a moonlit ballroom sequence. “Except with dancers trying to kill each other while falling in love” - Jorge (Ha! I love his playful humor😂!)
When Maya and Zatz kiss for the first time, the colors warm up just a little. (😊)
In the climax of the final battle. Our heroes fight back and bring warm colors back into the darkness of the fight.
Lastly Mictlan eats all the gods’ hearts and finally transforms into a giant two-headed serpent as the sky gets really red again and all is lost. Green becomes the color of Mictlan’s power. Maya riding Chiapa like a knight on a horse, faces all these reds and greens. She manages to get inside the serpent and just before the reds and greens consume her, she makes her final sacrifice and saves the day. The golds and blues of Teca return as Maya becomes the warm sun. As the sun goes down on her story, like a candle, the light goes out and Maya sleeps triumphantly forever.
That is until the sun and moon both get a second chance at life
There are tons more facts on all the characters, the settings and landscapes, and also a foreword from Zoe Saldana. Plus Jorge commentary on his story and everything is actually pretty funny😄! I highly recommend it.
