If you're up to it I wanna question that facebook eroded the sense of friendship. There's an article titled "25% of Americans have no one to confide in" from 2006, which is before facebook. The seminal book on the topic, Bowling Alone, was extrapolated from an essay written in 1996, before the Internet. American friendship was on the way out already.
Yep. The concept of Friendship in America has indeed eroded over time having started a long time ago due to various social influences which become exponentially stronger to coincide with the exponential influences of technological advancement and social perspectives Iām glad you agree and you didnāt send me this stupid ask as a gotcha because youāre terrified of admitting you have a tech addiction like everyone else and there is a stress point that has been hit in our current population.

Is there some kind of Tumblr rumor about emdr and repressed memories? I have seen a lot of people talk about that but like, that is not what emdr does.
idk man, I attribute my few recovered memories to EMDR, but it didnāt happen in session. It happened afterwards, during the integration process. EMDR has been tied to recovering memories for some, but youāre right, itās not the goal and it isnāt a main feature. Iād be willing to bet most people donāt even experience it. Itās more of a side effect than anything.āØ
One of the main functions of EMDR is integration- of personality, of life experience, of Self and I have no fucking clue how to describe it in a way that doesnāt sound like new age bullshit. But with all those lines of neural communication getting opened up, it only makes sense that some memories might reassert themselves. But yeah, itās not like after a few sessions of EMDR your therapist hands you a gift basket full of all the memories youāve repressed, and says congrats youāll never question anything about your past again. Some things are just lost.
On a side note, Iāve only recovered memories from before the age of about 10, so that might be significant. Like, if you didnāt experience major trauma until later in childhood/adolescence this whole recovering memories thing might not even apply. Hard to say, and from what I can tell thereās not much decent research about it.

Do you remember and could you point me at the source that states interacting with the LGBT community is more linked to negative outcomes for trans women than for trans men or non binary people who aren't trans feminine? That lines up with what I have seen but people argue against the idea or claim the opposite could be true.
Thereās a handful out there, but the Trans Pulse surveyās one I know off the top of my head. Itās around the start of the bottom quarter, under mental health/depression.Ā
All in theirĀ trans men/trans masc category benefited from social supports and support for their identity. No conditions on that, it only aids in their mental health. Those on the trans woman/trans fem side benefited from social support as well, but only significantly when they werenāt engaged in (any) community, or at least very minimally.

Thereās one or two other sources out there iirc coming to the same conclusion, just canāt remember what they were. Oneās American, though.Ā

Or, in one memorable case, both!Ā

When someone makes belittling discriminatory remarks in public, it isnāt like a personal slight that I can forgive completely. I can forgive disrespect toward myself but I canāt say that hurting other people is ok on their behalf. So many people take a free pass on being a thoughtless dick because their one friend with the slightly atypical background forgives them. Remarks made about a broader group of people arenāt my wounds to forgive. You are partially responsible for informing the attitudes of your friends but not everyone is your friend.

More DC 25th century headcannon: They use the International Fixed calendar, which makes Booster incapable of keeping track of dates or time in the 21st century where all months have different lengths. Ted tries to explain Friday the 13th to him, "But every 13th falls on a Friday."
BLESS THIS HEADCANON

I think that the concept of gender headcanons came about specifically when communities shamed creators for self insert and Mary Sue accusations, and I say this because there's little difference between a "female version of the protagonist" and a self insert done by a woman, for example a "female Kirk" is probably indistinguishable from a "self insert Star trek original character" but we got taught that self insert is embarrassing and that gender headcanons are cool or progressive.
Yeah, that aspect definitely did play a part in fandom embracing genderbends, for sure.Ā

I think that Godiva in Jurgen's New 52 JLI was supposed to be a counter part to Booster--not as morally suspect, not as confident or powerful, but in it for the fame and willing to put on a fake persona or pretend to be stupid for the public.
Oh right. I forgot about her. Itās a shame that run didnāt last longer.

@leeshy-loo-squid-squad said:Ā Itās just an excuse to derail criticism because most people stop then oUT of fear of being called transphoBic. Iāve always equaled gp written and read by not Trans women the same as lesbian porn for and by men or straight girls being all over mlm.
Yeah, pretty much. If they claim itās helpful for trans men and afab NB folks, they get to wield the cissexist priority those folks get in LGBT spaces over trans women to further silence us and distance themselves from claims of transphobia. After all, how can they be transphobic if theyāre helping trans men and nb folks? (of course, accusations are often on transmisogyny, by trans women, but we and our oppression is always de-centered toĀ ātrans peopleā andĀ ātransphobiaā as a way of marginalizing us and our voices)
But yeah, itās a pretty similar dynamic in some ways as the way dudes create and consume lesbian content, and the way straight women and some bi women create and consume mlm content. itās always perfectly clear to the affected groups that the fetishistic content is not made for them, is harmful representation, and itās always a struggle to get those creators to care enough to stop/change
@pianowaterfall said: Do you feel like fetishized lesbian packing is also be transmisogynist or more of a neutral kink?
What, like, cis lesbians and afab NB lesbians packing in order to get sexual gratification from the act? Like Erika Moen does? To play on the taboos of having a hidden penis, to press their bulge against someone and earn taboo-fueled arousal? Yeah, thatās generally transmisogynistic in how it tends to manifest and play out (they can always fall back on saying āHey, itās not realā & remove it, and benefit from that, whereas trans women with visible bulges or even having the outline of our genitals be visible, can get us hurt or killed or fired or evicted or arrested, etc., itās not something that can be fetishized without the attached context of trans women and our bodies, and what dangers there are in being a woman with a penis).Ā
Like, thereās a vast difference in how trans men and trans masc folks use their packers, and how people who aren't male-aligned use them. Iād say around ~90+% of that distance can be chalked up to fetishization and cissexism.
