Maybe I should wait for the PDF, but I’ve been thinking about password managers lately and might forget to check for that. My problem is that if there’s one thing I want to never ever put on the cloud to potentially get compromised, it’s my password information. But if there’s one thing I don’t want to lose access to, it’s also my password information. This seems to rule out both local options like KeePassXC and remote ones like Bitwarden.

I've started to become somewhat annoyed by the "there is no cloud, there is only someone else's computer" thing (this is a general thing, not specifically directed at you but you reminded me of it).

The risks of putting things on the cloud are that the internet or the provider will go down and you'll lose access to your data OR that the data will be compromised because the information is essentially public because it's on someone else's device.

Losing access because the provider crashes and burns or because there is a global internet outage is a distinct possibility, however with most password managers it is very very easy to download a copy of your data, which you can then store as an encrypted file on your desktop.

With companies like Bitwarden and Proton, which have open source encrypted cloud storage, your risk of compromise from being on someone else's computer is essentially zero. It IS important to make sure that you're finding a provider who is actually encrypting your shit and is not holding onto your password, which is why Bitwarden and Proton are the providers I keep recommending (privacyguides.org has recommendations here; bitwarden, protonpass, and keepassxc are all on the list, all of these are extremely safe options).

And that's where I have the problem with the "other people's computer" thing. I would have zero problems with storing a properly encrypted file in the comments of a facebook page. If a document had good encryption I would post it on livejournal and not worry about people getting into it. If you are working with good encryption, there is zero risk of compromise when keeping your shit on someone else's computer.

So I actually think the solution for either side of this conundrum is the same: If you're worried about losing access to your password manager because a service shuts down or the internet blows up, download a copy of your data to your desktop and store it in an encrypted folder on your computer. If you're worried about losing access to your password manager if your physical hardware is damaged in a disaster, export a copy of your data, save it as an encrypted file, and upload your encrypted file to gmail for all it matters - they will straight up not be able to get into it.

But that's also all kind of beside the point because a major feather in Bitwarden's cap is that you can self-host. It doesn't need to go on someone else's cloud, you can put it on your own server and never worry that someone else is going to tinker with your password manager.

Either way, you are sort of worrying beyond your means because if you're not using a password manager right now you are almost certainly at greater risk of credential stuffing attacks than anything else and need to put out that fire.

I'm not upset that blu-rays are being phased out. Formats all become obsolete and then die out.

My worry is there is not an adequate replacement for physical media. If you stream a 4K movie, it is usually over compressed and has a lossy audio track. Usually the quality *improves* when you move on to the next thing. But in this case, only the convenience is improved.

And there is no way to truly own the media you buy online. Even on Amazon when you "buy" something, that just means you have indefinite access to the file on their server. But if they lose the rights to that content or decide to delete it for tax purposes, you lose it too.

There is a service called Kaleidescape. It allows you to download blu-ray quality movie files onto local storage. Unfortunately the service has way too many caveats. You can only play the movies on their proprietary equipment. If they go out of business you will lose all of your movie purchases. And while they have a lot of mainstream, big budget movies, their selection is far from vast.

Oh, and their hardware starts at $8,000 and each movie is between $10 and $30 to purchase. And if you want to save more than 125 movies, the cost balloons to nearly $20K for the hardware.

The quality issue will eventually solve itself. New codecs like AV1 and H.266 will allow files to be compressed without losing any quality.

But I have no idea what to do about being unable to truly own your media. No studio will agree to DRM-free downloads that you can store anywhere and play with any device.

Maybe they can create a system where you can register any device you own and be allowed to play the file on those registered devices. So you get a file you can download, but the DRM requires verification you own the device it is being played on.

Perhaps they could designate a few cloud storage services as approved download platforms. You are free to shift your media from cloud to cloud, but it must always stay on the cloud and be registered to you. That way if a cloud storage company bites the dust, you still have the option to move your media to another place.

It's not as good as DRM-free local storage, but I don't see studios agreeing to anything else.

In truth, people are probably never going to buy movies in the future. If you have the option to rent for $3 or buy for $20, people probably aren't going to see the value in spending that much to own a movie.

Maybe the solution lies in some kind of law. If a platform no longer wishes to host a show or movie and they can't sell it to another streaming service, then they must give up the rights and allow the Library of Congress to save and distribute it.

I'm not hating it is still your art and I still enjoy it just please understand there are environmental consequences to AI as well. the equipment to host AI services still needs to take up physically space in a server to run it and training an AI model consumes tons of electricity and leaves a big carbon footprint. whatever your choices just please stay informed. I'm not an artist so I'm not going to tell you how to do your art I just want you to know this because a lot of people using these things are uninformed about it.

I use it in my own computer using my own resources. I live in the forest and I have very few physical possessions, (I’m sure everybody critizing this don’t use Google, Youtube, Instagram, Amazon, planes, cars, plastic…)🙃

I know too from first hand that most people who NEVER used Ais nor even tried or studied how they can work are also not informed, but they feel free to give lessons about things they dont know. 👀👍

In my case I NEVER speak about what I dont know:

1st: to not be an ignorant.

2nd: to not cause disinformation and to not offend those who actually know about it.

Thanks for the insights, Im aware of them much before the trend, is my work, not a hobby.🙏

I have this in my pinned, but i'd just like to formally ask.. please don't upload my art to pinterest!

I absolutely don't mind my art being saved for reference, the issue is with pinterest itself. People don't generally attach credit on there, and users tend to think of anything on pinterest as totally sourceless and free to use/copy. It's disheartening seeing my original work floating around and being used with no credit, or credited to the wrong person, or having people tell me they've seen my art all over but had no idea I made it.

(It'd be one thing if it were just hobbyists, but unfortunately this extends to the professional sphere as well-- I have been given moodboards with totally uncredited art to reference off of even doing professional design work.)

And besides, with pinterest you have to deal with low quality uploads, things being randomly removed, obnoxious ads everywhere... aside from the convenience of it being online, it really just isn't great for art archiving anyways! I think it's very worthwhile to have an offline art reference folder, and if you don't have one you should get into the habit of actually saving things. You can always save my art to your computer, or print it out to have it physically (as long as you aren't using it for-profit). Under the cut I have some image organizing software recommendations.

Tagstudio - free image and document organizer with tagging functions.

Hydrus network - another free media organizer with tagging functions. works like a locally-hosted booru. Has a little bit more of a learning curve and has the option to set up a server to share files over a server, but you can use it purely offline. (also yeah it's geared towards imageboard users but you don't have to use any of that to work with it)

Notion - freemium (free for one user), can be used online/cross platform and shared more like Pinterest. more of a general notetaking/organizational app, but you can create moodboard sites using templates.

Infected/Kasper Full Body

Au Headcanons Below (Some a tad graphic, be warned.)

Kasper's background remains relatively the same, Being infected from a virus script. Leaning more into a parasitic bug computer Virus than a illness virus.

Infected's virus has nearly taken fully effect, and covers the majority of his body. His wings and antennae are based off of the Emerald Cockroach Wasp.

Kasper's body is really only just a host until Infected's wasp body can fully grow. During the meantime Kasper's body is easily able to be harmed, especially infected parts.

Infected was quarantined by Unpleasant, which was probably the best idea the Gradient ever had. The two are unofficial roommates. Unpleasant having been ordered by DrRetro to take care of Kasper due to Unpleasant being immune.

Infected does not like Unpleasant due to this. He's delusioned to think that it's really all just a common cold, and that it'll pass off... eventually.

Kasper's virus is physically contagious to objects and people. Due to Kasper's ability to travel around servers, as any robloxian in this au can do, DrRetro believes Infected to really only be a ticking time bomb of an issue.

Poob lives nearby, living in the same appartment complex. Poob is also immune to said virus.

Inanimate Fansanity Fanzine Project!

Ive always wanted to organize and host a zine, i thought its be pretty cool. and since II has ended, why not take the opportunity to make an II themed zine?

For this project, we’re calling for WRITERS and ARTISTS from the II fandom!

Every major character will receive their own page in the fanzine, and there will also be room for analysis pages and for-fun content (such as games and coloring pages)

This was just a silly concept my brain conjured up, so it may or may not have the possibilty of being made physically, but when it is complete all of the digital files will be made available!

The cover will be a collaborative project and feature all of the contestants + hosts + cohosts drawn by different artists.

This project is purely for fun! Artists and writers of all ages and skillsets are encouraged to partake! I will try my best to ensure everyone who signs up gets a role ^^!! The only requirement is that you must have a Discord (for contacting) and must be +13 (as per Discord usage TOS). As of right now there is also no deadline, but we do set to finish the project at least within a few months at the latest!

If you’re interested in participating, please fill out this google form! Roles will be assigned in 3 days, but you are still free to sign up even after that point in case we need extra roles filled (but know that it’s not guaranteed once the window closes)!

What do you do when you just find out you're intersex? What's the next step or a good way to get involved with and learn more about the community?

Hi anon!

Welcome to the intersex community. I'm glad you're here.

There's a lot of different things you can do to start learning more, meet other intersex people, and get involved in advocacy.

This post has a long list of different articles, videos, and books all about intersex politics, art, and history. @intersexbookclub also runs a monthly intersex book club through Discord.

If you're in the US, there are multiple different intersex support groups you can get involved with. @interactyouth is an intersex organization for intersex people aged 13-29. They have a Discord server, monthly meetings, resources, and just recently hosted a youth retreat. InterConnect is an intersex organization for people of all ages, and also has virtual support groups and regional meet-ups. Intersex Justice Project is a groundbreaking intersex organization that prioritizes intersex justice, working specifically to provide resources for intersex people of color and fight against the intersection of colonialism, racism, and intersex oppression. Intersex Awareness is a grassroots group that does a poster campaign during every October for intersex awareness day. The LA LGBT center hosts virtual Club intersex meetings twice a month, and if you're local to LA, they also have some more resources. If you live in Houston, the Houston Intersex Society has tons of resources, including a lot of resources for intersex people of color, and is currently trying to get a physical space. If you're in Minnesota, Tigerrs (@tigerrsmn)has an intersex support group and a ton of other local intersex resources.

If you're outside the US, this post has a list of a lot of other intersex organizations in other countries.

If connecting with an organization feels too overwhelming, I think that following intersex people on social media can be a great way to start getting more connected to intersex topics! There's a lot of people linked on the very first post of articles and videos that I posted, and you can always look through the intersex tag on here. I know the intersex reddit is also fairly active.

If you like making art, I know that for some people, making intersex themed art can be a great way to feel more connected to your intersex identity.

It can absolutely be a journey where you learn a lot about yourself, unlearn a lot about society, and it can come with a lot of emotions! Definitely feel free to move at your own pace and access the resources that feel the most helpful to you, with no pressure to rush into anything before you're ready.
