You know. I am a little worried about this awful pattern. See, she picks someone, and they adore her. Rightfully so! And then I appear, and I pick them too. And I don't deserve to be adored like that. Not like she is. But we have shared... five partners now? I think it may be more than that, actually. I shouldn't want her leftovers. But she certainly has good taste! Well, most of the time. She did date me, after all.

eavesdrop :eyes:
You've made your way to Ghouston again, to check in with Dirk about your hand, to see just how far along he is in rebuilding it. He says he wants to look at the old wiring again-- and it is old.
He works carefully, with surgical precision, eyes focused on the skeleton Kareem built ages ago, sending small volts through the wiring to test your reflexes (they're shit, you've discovered), watching as electricity reacts with the magic that Cyther Kaiser had written into your skin. Frustrating, but fascinating. It wasn't going to be a clean build, but the more Dirk learned, the better his prosthetics would be.
At least, that is how both of you consoled yourself.
"We should get some… I don't know, a warlock? To scrub your arm of spells."
"Oh, Cyther Kaiser would be devastated if he learned his Uncle Dirk was upset at his handiwork." You smirk, and he sends another pulse through your arm, almost in retaliation.
"Yeah, well, I can be 'The Dirk formerly known as Uncle' if he gets pissed. He can get over it and readopt me later, if he feels up to it. Your kids have more uncles than just me, don't they?"
"They used to have many. Rufioh and Theodore and Saturn and Phylus and so many more… But now, it's just you, and Sollux."
"Sollux. Which one?"
You smile warmly, and he looks up at your face for a moment, waiting for an answer. "Ghosty. But you know, with a two instead of an 's'."
"Par for the course for those guys." He smirks, and you follow suit.
"It is rather interesting what holds across timelines, across lifetimes…" A gentle musing, and there is silence from Dirk as he pokes further into your forearm, but you know he's able to be attentive to both his task and you. "He is Sollux, like so many of his alternates, but so very one of a kind. He's kept his quirk, and wrigglerish humour-- at least with me, but he's grown so much since I saw him. He kept a place for our friendship, too. I am grateful he brought that along with him."
"You think he would've left it behind?"
"I think… I wouldn't fault him for it if he had. Considering I left everything behind."
A small pause between the two of you as you press your own lips together tightly, and he delivers another zap to the wires. "Not everything. You brought love with you, there and back."
"I can't imagine a life where I do not love him. He is one of my best friends, one of the oldest, one of the ones I fought to keep close for sweeps. I told him I had his portrait painted early on, so I wouldn't forget his face. I never forgot our jokes, how easy being with him was, how fun it always was… He's different from when I knew him well, though. I suppose, so am I."
"Addie…" The soldering iron is placed down for a moment, and he makes sure orange meets teal, that your eyes are locked together. "That's a good thing. You grew up, apart, and then back together. He wants that, even if you think you shouldn't have that. He's a good friend. And so are you."
You hold his gaze for a little, and you know he can feel your heartbeat, a quickened pace for a moment, then a slower count once he's said his piece. Your good hand reaches for him, squeezing at his wrist, and he smiles softly with you, then rolls his eyes.
"He can be a good friend all he wants, though. I'm the better one, and I'm the best uncle, too."
"Try telling that to him when he fully lifts you above his head to toss you like a ragdoll."
"Oh shit? He can do that?"

memory is weird. today I forgot what toothpaste is called in my native language for like five minutes but I can remember the order of classifications of species off the top of my head simply because I happened to learn a good mnemonic device for it 7 years ago from Northernlion while I just happened to be studying the topic for a class.
for those curious, it’s ‘Donkey Kong plays cool or fun games, sir’ (Domain, Kingdom, Phylus, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species).

A Mon Alone
I come across this while browsing the internet in search of some lesser known star wars stories. I thought I would share it here.
A Mon Alone was an adventure for the Living Force roleplaying campaign. It was written by Morrie Mullins.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/A_Mon_Alone
I'll write summaries of the characters backstories.
Tumblr media
Gorak, a female Trandoshan
She knew she was raised as a slave in a starship and mocked by Wookiees for being short, pink-eyed and specially for being albino.
(Kind of like Feresk Tssat, aka Frisk, from Star Wars Squadrons. He has pale pink scales, which isn't the same as albinism.)
Tumblr media
She was rented for a week by a huge Wookiee, but she could not recall what happened.
Tumblr media
(Does this imply what I think it implies or did I spent too much time on the unholy part of the internet ?)
At that time, she was also regularly beaten, which served to increase her skin's hardness.
Eventually Gorak was freed, and she met slaver Phylus Mon, a Chevin. He offered her a job at his zoo, food and clothes. However, upon hiring her, Phylus Mon injected an explosive near Gorak's heart. This mechanism was a security measure that Phylus Mon used in every one of his slaves. (Phylus Mon paid his slaves and insisted in calling them employees - but at the same time, all of them knew they could not leave his service or they would die.)
Tumblr media
(Did the writer of the Suicide Squad read this ? What was first ?)
Gorak's job included handling violent animals, apparently because of her own experience with violence and because of her phylosophical views on the innate violence of the reality After years working on it, and specializing in Acklays and Rancors, Gorak developed the ability to identify most species by their odor. She is a Trandoshan after all.
She also developed claustrophobia.
In around 20 BBY Phylus Mon decided to take Gorak in a mission. Gorak was not informed of the details, but she was introduced the other members of the team.
She disliked Nalz the Spiner.
She sexually liked the Barabel bounty-hunter Yerj, although the feeling was not mutual.
However, the last team member was the Wookiee Kaarror, for whom she felt an innate hatred.
Gorak and the other minions attacked the Almas Sith fortress in Cularin system. The fortress entrance was being protected by six Jedi, but Phylus Mon sent no less than thirteen minions. Phylus Mon's team killed four of the Jedi and defeated the other two, even although Gorak and Kaarror spent the whole battle insulting each other from different sides of the field.
Tumblr media
(This DND party needs some team training! I would watch the show just about them going on crazy adventures.)
In the fortress, Phylus Mon performed a Sith ritual to transform Gorak and the others in Sith battlelords: After a dangerous, life-threatening process, they were supposed to rise as powerful military commanders that could use Force powers to deal with insubordination of their troops. However, something went wrong with the ritual: Gorak and the other prospective Battlelords were stripped of their Force-essences, which would be stored in a large crystal.
Tumblr media
(Well, it went as well as I thought it would. Don't do creepy rituals!)
Phylus Mon left the fortress with the crystal, but without Kaarror and the other empty bodies. Those bodies would then be found by a search team sent by the Jedi in the Almas Academy. The bodies were sent to the Academy. There, the Jedi tried their best to recover the lost essences and restore them to their previous state.
Tumblr media
(Well the ending is a downer. I guess they're just waiting to be saved to this day.)

How old was Phylus when he started fooling around with me? Not like it makes any of this better. It might make things worse, actually...

Now honestly, what traits from your past lovers do you look for in current ones?
The things I want in lovers are consistent, and have never been traits affixed to one individual. I wanted my past lovers, in all quadrants, to be attentive, kind, passionate, romantic... And I still do.
--
But I look for people who share Theodore's wisdom and effortless elegance, too. Kanaya has generosity beyond measure, beauty every layer down to her core. Rufioh was so free and fearless and fun, more than anyone I might ever know. Mandy was dedicated, courageous, breathtaking in a thousand ways. Phylus and Saturn were not the best for me, but they still cared, offered their power and influence, offered protection in ways I only dreamed of duplicating. Even my husband was a wonder: creative, bright, so quick-witted, and truly might've been the most charming man in Asidea.
I've found those traits, again and again. I see so many of them in every lover I've had since. Ghosts, in a way. Reminders that I was so in love then. Reminders that I am so in love now, and the things that mattered then are still important.
I do not compare them to each other. I don't want to. But sometimes the similarities line up a little too well...

Thinkin bout goat eyes.
I lov goat eyes.
Phylus is my little frog. Goldie is Goldie Fish and she was pert of a plotline I discontinued but she remains with me.
Pan is a kindhearted farmer who always leaves his surplus crops out on the borders of his property so travelers don’t go hungry.
Cerello is a kelpie.
