Lodging is one of the three pillars of the CapitaLand Group’s businesses, with the other two being Fund Management and Investment / Development. Mr Goh is concurrently the CEO of The Ascott Limited, an appointment he has held since 2018. Mr Goh has been with the CapitaLand Group since May 2007 and has taken on various leadership positions in Ascott such as Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director of North Asia and Regional General Manager for East and South China. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expanded its WhatsApp service to those who speak Arabic, French and Spanish. The easy-to-use messaging service, which was already available in English, has the potential to reach 2 billion people and enables the WHO to get information directly into the hands of those that want it. The messaging service will provide subscribers with the latest news and information on the COVID19 pandemic, including details on symptoms and how people can protect themselves and others.

It also provides the latest situation reports and numbers in real-time to help government decision-makers protect the health of their populations. Accor Signs 24-Pool Villa Resort in Phuket, Thailand

Accor has signed a 24-pool villa resort in Phuket, Thailand. The V Villas Phuket - MGallery is being developed on a hilltop near Ao Yon Beach, approximately 1 hour by road from Phuket International Airport and 20 minutes from Phuket Town. The resort, scheduled to open in H2 2020, will feature five F&B outlets, a swimming pool and a spa & wellness centre.

Khun Vichaya Poolvaraluk, owner of V Villas Phuket - MGallery, said, “V Villas Phuket is destined to be an unforgettable destination with its privileged location high up on the hills overlooking the Ao Yon Bay in southern Phuket. The hotel also provides direct access to one of the area’s last hidden and beautiful secluded beaches. Like its sister property in Hua Hin, it will offer an unparalleled level of service and privacy including dedicated butler service. One standout feature will be the hotel’s dining concept with a restaurant and outdoor deck facing the azure blue water and a roof top bar offering a 360 degree view 50 meters above sea level for what promises to be a stunning sunset spot.” Accor currently operates 89 hotels in Thailand and has a pipeline of 10 hotels scheduled to open over the next five years. Bangkok Airways Makes Major Changes to Domestic and Int. Flight Schedules

Bangkok Airways has made the following changes to its domestic and international schedules, in response to weakening demand caused by concerns over the ongoing COVID19 outbreak. Aerobility to Expand Fleet with Former MOD Vigilant T1 Gliders

The MOD’s Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation has sold 63 decommissioned Vigilant T1 aircraft to Aerobility, an UK-based charity which provides flying experiences to those with disabilities and injured ex-military personnel. The first batch of 10 motor gliders will be modified and refurbished by German company GROB Aircraft SE – the original manufacturer and Design Authority – to meet civil certification standards. The remaining aircraft will be engineered and recertified in the UK, where the charity has identified a qualified engineering partner in Southern Sailplanes, based in West Berkshire. Hampshire-based Aerobility will initially more than double its fleet with eight Vigilants thanks to a grant from the Department for Transport (DfT); meaning they will be able to help about 2,600 people into the air every year compared to 1,000 currently.

Clive Walker, head of the Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) in DE&S, said, “I am very pleased to see the RAF Vigilant T1 gliders move on to a new lease of life, in particular supporting the excellent work of Aerobility in creating flying experiences and opportunities for those who might otherwise never get the chance to fly.” Glider modifications will include new engines, propellers and refurbished cockpits, and the charity hopes the first glider will be ready to fly in the summer of 2021. Aircraft that aren’t used for flights will be refurbished and sold to generate revenue for the charity, pay for the ongoing costs of their operational fleet and help them branch out into other parts of the British Isles. Aerobility’s CEO, Mike Miller-Smith MBE, said, “Acquiring these aircraft will help us transform the lives of an even greater number of disabled people by giving them the unrivalled sense of freedom through the magic of flight. We are extremely grateful to the Ministry of Defence, Department for Transport and our various partners for supporting us in this ambitious project. Not only will it help us build capacity for our future operations, it will enable us to expand the charity to support more disabled people and to do so at additional locations around the UK.” The sale will create four full-time engineering jobs, one project management role and one administration position at the charity. They will also need a full-time co-ordinator and a part-time flying instructor, with all positions being filled by candidates with a disability where possible. Accor Opens Second ibis Styles Hotel in Vietnam

Accor has expanded its portfolio of hotels in Vietnam with the opening of a second ibis Styles in the country. Overlooking the long sandy Back Beach, the ibis Styles Vung Tau is just a two-hour drive from Saigon. The hotel’s 250 guest rooms range in size from the 24 sqm Standard Room to the 46 sqm Premium Family sea view room with balcony. In addition to a rooftop bar, the hotel also features a restaurant designed similarly to a street food concept with an open kitchen and a spacious terrace with various selections of Vietnamese food and international cuisine.

The hotel also has a rooftop pool, 24-hour gym, a kid's club, and two meeting rooms which can be combined into a ballroom for up to 200 people. “Vung Tau has long been a popular beach getaway for locals from Ho Chi Minh city, and in recent years we have also seen arrival of travellers from other regional countries. With the opening of ibis Styles Vung Tau, we look forward to welcoming guests looking for an economy-priced hotel with all the modern travel necessities including a stylish design, premium bedding and fast Wi-Fi,” said Mathieu Le Besq, General Manager of ibis Styles Vung Tau. Susan Doniz to Join Boeing as CIO / SVP IT and Data Analytics

Boeing has appointed Susan Doniz as the company's chief information officer and senior vice president of Information Technology & Data Analytics, effective in May 2020. Susan will report to Boeing President and CEO David Calhoun, serve on the company's Executive Council and be based in Chicago.

"Susan is a proven, customer-focused technology leader with extensive global experience across multiple industries, including commercial aviation," said Calhoun. "She brings deep insight and skills to digital transformation, data analytics and artificial intelligence – all essential to our long-term growth strategy as well as our continuous drive for operational and safety excellence. She brings as well a passion for STEM education and diversity and inclusion." Susan will succeed Vishwa Uddanwadiker, who has served in an interim capacity since October 2019. "I'd also like to thank Vishwa for stepping in to take on this assignment during an important time for Boeing and for his support during this transition," added Calhoun. "Vishwa demonstrated tremendous leadership, and we look forward to his continued significant contributions to the company." Susan joins Boeing from Qantas, where she has served as Group CIO since January 2017. In that role, she oversaw technology innovation, development and integration, digital capabilities and cybersecurity across the group's companies, including Qantas Airlines, QantasLink, Qantas Loyalty and Jetstar. Susan has more than 25 years of global technology leadership experience, including strategic roles at SAP, Aimia and Procter & Gamble. Susan holds a bachelor's degree in applied science and engineering from the University of Toronto, and serves as vice chair of the Digital Transformation Advisory Council of the International Air Transport Association. AirAsia to Resume Manila - Saigon Flights; Launch Clark

AirAsia has confirmed plans to resume flights between Manila and Saigon, and will also increase domestic operations within Philippines. The Saigon service, which will commence on 29 March 2020, will be AirAsia’s 16th international destination from Manila. AirAsia Philippines CEO, Ricky Isla, said, “We are pleased to announce our newest services to Ho Chi Minh city after being held over for eight months. As an ASEAN airline, we aim to increase regional connectivity and to provide more business and leisure opportunities in Vietnam to our AirAsia guests.” To celebrate the resumption of its Saigon flights, AirAsia is offering all-in promotional fares from as low as P1,499 for BIG Loyalty Members from 24 to 27 February 2020, for travel between 29 March 2020 and 30 September 2020.

AirAsia will also launch a new route from Clark to Tagbilaran, and increase the frequency of multiple existing domestic routes from Clark and Cebu in time for the busy summer period. The Clark-Tagbilaran route complements AirAsia Philippine’s existing route to Bohol from Manila. Flights to and from Bohol now operate at the Panglao International Airport, replacing the old Tagbilaran airport. The pristine beaches of Panglao are just 15 minutes away from the new airport. Ricky Isla said, “Our new route from Clark to Tagbilaran and increased flight frequencies to the top summer destinations in Philippines are in support of the Department of Tourism towards stimulating domestic travel and encouraging everyone to explore our beautiful islands.” To celebrate this new route, AirAsia is offering all-in promotional fares from Clark to Tagbilaran from as low as P990 for BIG Loyalty Members and P1,057 for non-members from 24 February to 15 March 2020 for travel between 29 March to 30 September 2020. Green Light for MotoGP in Buri Ram, Thailand

The Sports Authority of Thailand has confirmed that the MotoGP, scheduled to take place in Buri Ram from 20-22 March, will go ahead as planned. With the COVID19 outbreak affecting a number of locations and events worldwide, especially in south east Asia, the decision required official confirmation that it could proceed.

After consulting with the Ministry of Public Health's Department of Disease Control, the Sports Authority of Thailand has officially communicated, on behalf of the Royal Thai government, that there is no major risk and that strict preventive measures are in place. The FIM Grade A and FIA Grade 1 Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram in the north east of Thailand opened in 2014 and hosted the Superbike World Championship in March 2015. The state-of-the-art circuit hosted its first MotoGP in 2018, and then again in October 2019. The ThaiGP attracts teams, media and fans from around the world, bring much needed income and media attention to this beautiful part of Isaan. SWISS Takes Delivery of First A320neo

Swiss International Air Lines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo aircraft at a delivery ceremony in Hamburg, Germany. Named 'Engelberg', the plane (HB-JDA) is the first of 25 aircraft SWISS will receive between now and the end of 2024, of which seventeen will be A320neos and the other eight, the larger A321neo version. The new twinjets will replace older Airbus A320 family aircraft in SWISS’ fleet. Thanks to the advanced technology of its Pratt & Whitney engines and its aerodynamic sharklet wingtip extensions, the Airbus A320neo consumes up to 20% less fuel than older comparable aircraft types.

The aircraft are also equipped as standard with noise-reducing vortex generators. As a result, a departing Airbus A320neo has a noise footprint on takeoff which is around half the size of the footprint produced by older aircraft of similar size. “Our new Airbus A320neo family aircraft will substantially further reduce the average age of the SWISS aircraft fleet,” said SWISS CEO, Thomas Klühr. “Once they are all delivered, our aircraft’s average age will be one of the youngest in Europe at around nine years. These billion-franc investments will further enhance our environmental credentials too.” The new SWISS Airbus A320neo also offers substantially more travel comfort to both Business and Economy Class passengers, thanks to its newly-developed seats from Italian manufacturer Geven. With their ergonomic pressure distribution over the backrest and the seat cushion, the new seats deliver a tangibly pleasanter sitting experience. And the horizontal placement of the literature pocket above the seat table is also designed to provide more personal space. The new seats can be reclined to 20 degrees (instead of the previous 12) during the taxi, takeoff and landing phases. And Business Class travellers can even recline their seat to a full 26 degrees during the cruise phase of flight. SWISS will be deploying its Airbus A320neos on its short and medium-haul routes of up to 4,200 kilometres within Europe and to and from destinations in North Africa and the Middle East.
