For any photosensitive people going to see The Wild Robot, please be aware that the movie begins with several bright lightning flashes. Like as soon as the opening DreamWorks segment is finished.
There's also another sudden flash of lightning after the beaver accuses the main characters of stealing his design about 25 mins or so into the movie.

It's time again!!! IT'S EPILEPSY AWARENESS MONTH!!
I've updated it a bit and added a section on non-epileptic seizures and in the content creator and game dev section, I made it clear that this also helps non-epileptic people with photosensitivity too!
Happy Disability Pride Month!!
It's that time of year again where I share the Epilepsy presentation I made last year!!
There's information on many types of seizures, first aid and how to make content more accessible if you are a content creator or game dev!
Spreading awareness is super important and it does make an impact! I've managed to help make 2 games safer even if it's only a little bit.
This is all from my own personal experience and information from a year ago, if there are any updates that need to be made or information that would be helpful from your own experiences, feel free to let me know!!
Also reminder do NOT use the #Epilepsy tag as a warning for flashing lights. All you're doing is sending those flashing gifs or videos straight to Epileptic people who want to look at that tag to find other people with Epilepsy!

Under The Lights, the short film by Miles Levin about a boy with epilepsy and his experience at prom is going to get a feature length film version if they can hit their crowdfunding goal!
This is one of the biggest attempts at an epilepsy awareness campaign in a while. And the short film was brilliant. They managed to convey the idea of the photosensitive trigger visually in the film without ever actually risking triggering photosensitivity.
If you want to support it, you can do so at the link below:

If you are going to utilize accessibility features on this app please use them properly.
If you are going to use content warnings then actually warn about the possible triggering content instead of just a keyboard smash because you think that's quirky (p.s it’s #flash warning not #Epilepsy, when you tag Epilepsy it makes it so people can’t even search the word Epilepsy without a bunch of flashing gifs coming up)
If you are going to add an image description it needs to be an actual description of the image and not just a bunch of random emojis. These image descriptions are there so visually impaired people can still enjoy pictures and content.
One last thing, reconsider using alternative fonts as they can make it difficult for automatic screen readers to interpret text

do people who disregard photosensitivity realize that seizures can fucking kill or do they just not care. do people not realize that their "aesthetic" "cool" flashing lights that happen without SUFFICIENT warning... are fucking capable of killing people. i dont even care if i sound pissy right now because i am pissy, im sick of feeling like myself and others with epilepsy arent even afforded the right to be an afterthought to most people. im not even photosensitive but ffs this shit makes me so angry.
seizures themselves can be deadly if they go on too long, theyre essentially electrical overloads in the brain, you know, that organ that controls the entire rest of the body? and seizures can result in injuries or death from falls. from choking on our own vomit. from drowning in our own bathtubs, if we think we might be safe to bathe and then get proven wrong. maybe someone just wanted to watch a video or movie while they took a spa day.
did you know that epileptics are more likely to die younger than those without epilepsy, with all those risks and more? and have you heard of SUDEP? sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, death without a known cause, a rare but very real possibility for us. it kills approximately 1 in 1000 epileptics a year, if not more since it may not be accurately tracked. thats thousands of us dead a year. we do not need you to add to our death rates.
"all these things are known risks, epileptics just have to be more careful-" epileptic people should not have to be on constant fucking high alert. how about instead, people just learn to give a shit about life threatening disabilities? it takes so little effort to just offer a CLEAR and VERY OBVIOUS warning AHEAD OF TIME, for a SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME, before your stupid flashing lights. or just dont add them at all. are they necessary? are they really necessary? would you really fucking rather photosensitive epileptics have to be constantly on guard, IMPOSSIBLY on guard, rather than you just considering their safety? nobody can anticipate every instance of unexpected flashing lights they might come across. but you, creators, are able to provide warnings, and if for any reason you arent, then hire someone else to edit the warnings in or just get rid of the fucking lights altogether.
again, my epilepsy is not photosensitive, but i will never stop being protective of my photosensitive siblings. my own life is scary enough with the form of epilepsy i have, i cannot imagine how terrifying it must be to have to maneuver through the world with photosensitivity, and i dont want careless assholes to go killing my fucking community because you dont give enough of a shit to worry epileptic people. i am pissed off and emotionally exhausted and the shit with elon musk having a flashing gif on his twitter account was the straw that broke my back today so youre getting a pissed off PSA. everyone better start doing a whole damn lot better.
link to the CDC page about SUDEP
link to the epilepsy foundation site page about seizure risks
people without epilepsy are encouraged to reblog but know that i am already angry and will not tolerate bullshit on this post. give a fuck about other peoples lives and safety or im blocking you.

Watch out for the Inside Out 2 trailer if you're photosensitive. There's a short part with a bright flashing red light against a dark background towards the beginning. I just don't understand why movie companies are constantly using strobe lights in their movies all. The. Time. So tired of it

FUCK this glitchy/flashy/shaky/static effects trend that every person who makes any sort of media is getting into and putting everywhere without any trigger warnings whatsoever!
You are making it impossible for people like me with seizure, vision, photosensitivity, etc issues to engage with any media (especially videos and/or reels taking over) AT ALL!
So tired of it, fuck the ads everywhere (even here now!), fuck the reels taking over, fuck this flashy effects trend, fuck it all.
Sincerely, someone with severe vision, photosensitivity, and seizure issues, who is being forced away from every form of media for the sake of their own health.

Thank you Disney and Marvel Studios for issuing this warning for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. When strobe lights are the most objectively dangerous thing that can be put on a screen, a warning is always welcome. This sign was posted at our local AMC Theatres location.
Image ID: a printed paper sign reading: “ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA contains several sequences with flashing lights that may affect those susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photosensitivities.

International epilepsy day falls on the second February every year, this year it falls on the 12th. If you consider yourself a disability ally or are curious to learn more about seizures, I'd really appreciate you doing even one simple thing to learn more about epilepsy on this day.
A few ideas are to watch this short film on epilepsy, trigger warning for injury and like a tiny little bit of gore? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfy4_mq_yX8
Learn about the different forms of seizures, especially non-convulsive ones like atonic and absence seizures.
Learn about drug-resistant epilepsy
Learn about historical figures who likely had epilepsy like Harriet Tubman and how their disability impacted them.
Learn seizure first aid, one in ten people will have a seizure in their lifetime and this information could be life-saving.
Tag any posts with flashing lights with #flashing lights and really aggressive neon colors with #eyestrain.
If you're posting this content on YouTube add text that says what time the person can skip to for the flashing lights/eyestrain to be done.
If you're posting on tiktok have at least a 5 second period with big text that says "flash warning/eyestrain warning" before the flashing lights start.
If you're posting on instagram make the first slide something with large text that reads "flash warning/eyestrain warning".
Learn someone's epilepsy story. You can find some of these on epilepsy websites like epilepsy society and epilepsy foundation.
Donate to an epilepsy organization such as the ones mentioned above!
If you know somebody with seizures, reach out and ask them if there's anything you can do to accommodate them.
Never wear any sort of accessory with a flashing light on it such as a headband or glasses.
If you have seizures or epilepsy feel free to add on to this list!

Happy Epilepsy Awareness month! [2023]
Happy Epilepsy Awareness Month 2023!
For those who don't know what Epilepsy is, it's a chronic condition that affect people and their daily lives. It also affects the human brain by the disruption from the normal electrodes, can come in from pseudo Epilepsy (Which mimics the seizure from high amounts of stress, not recorded as Epilepsy activity in an EEG, but still causes it such as low blood sugar, anxiety, etc, rather than electrical brain activity.).
This chronic condition can come from development in childhood sometimes by head injuries, genetics, along with some other causes. Seizures are also deadly to humans and animals no matter what type they have, it is considered dangerous. (Complex partial, grandmal, absent, and drop seizures) are really deadly depending on the circumstances and the environment around them. It CAN also a disability to not only children, but in adults as well, since it affects daily life, needs to be monitored by peers, or in some cases forget or have cognitive delays.
I have Epilepsy which is complex partial on the left side of my brain that could also be generalized. I have both Epileptic and Non-Epileptic Seizures, and while the Epileptic ones are mostly under controlled, the Non-Epileptic seizures are more harder to control due to my anxiety, stress, depression, and emotions. I have mostly Absent seizures, and due to to the condition, have a little bit of some cognitive delays from childhood.
For Those out there who are struggling, they are not alone and there is others who have different experiences fighting their battles.

Hello I have a question for people with epileptic seizures, and most preferably, people with a Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) Implant
There is a story I’m working on with an epileptic character, and I would like to bounce some ideas off someone with the condition.

#OnlyonOneNETnewsInvestigates: The Epilepsy Episode of Pokémon Anime breaks their silence in Japan and was concluded for a National Breach of Televised Incident [#ClassicNews]
AN IMPORTANT FAIR WARNING to our NEWS READERS: The following news article may seriously contain a suggestive photosensitive epilepsy content. Readers discretion is STRONGLY ADVISED! Also, Reporting our news article without a consent is strictly punishable by law. We are frankly NOT responsible in our small news organization experience for any of it’s wrong doing. Thank you!
TOKYO, JAPAN -- Over 25 years of its controversial classic episode in Season 1 as Pokémon: The Original Series per classification of The Indigo League broke their silence on national television overnight, both before on Christmas Day in mid-December 1997 and mid-April of 1998.
Japanese kids and teens were targeted nationwide, with some occasional future adults suffering their adverse health effects including epileptic seizures, vomiting, irritated eyes and other related symptoms, due to the use of a flashing strobe effect upon its first and only airing.
The investigation was now concluded as JOCX-TV 8's Fuji TV in Tokyo from a morning news programme called "Nice Day". Our research team tells us exclusively to OneNETnews, the episode entitled "Electric Soldier Porygon" which can be found from a partial lost media in Japanese TV listings of Episode #38.

The blame was put on a scene depicting an explosion, encountering to 2 missiles as detonated with a Thunderbolt move, followed by 5 seconds of flashing red, white and blue lights from the eyes of the most popular character named Pikachu, who was an electric rodent-like creature type of Pocket Monsters. Pre-Kalos Correspondent (Ash Ketchum) reached out for a comment to OneNETnews, shortly immediately after the lock-in classic taping episode.

Despite a lot of emergency calls, JOTX-TV's Tokyo 12 (now currently known as TV Tokyo Ch. 7) was first to air the said episode; as well as the rest of TXN Network affiliates and other selected first-run syndicated TV stations in Pokémon anime. The show went on hiatus for a few months where the ongoing talks for a controversial banned episode nationwide.

Several moments after the new classic episode ended at exactly 6:51pm on Tuesday night (December 16th, 1997 -- Japan local time), over 700 children and teens (partially excluded themselves for adults) have tuned in that night and was rushed to a nearest hospital all across Japan. The predecessor generation of millennium spiked their televised ratings to nearly 20%, as according to the Video Research Survey (VRS).

In a public press conference the following day as one Programming Division Manager of TV Tokyo Ch. 12 named Hironari Mori told Fuji News Network (FNN), the damages are done unnoticed after a massive Photosensitive Epilepsy incident on national TV for kids and teens altogether: "When it comes to the ugly situation that took place no matter the root cause, this happened because people watched something we put on the air. So I'd like to end by saying that, we apologize for what happened. We don't know how this is all going to play out, but if we can't figure this out by next Tuesday night (December 23rd, 1997), we're thinking we'll have no choice but to have the show taking a break next week", Mori said in a translated Japanese dialect. So far, there were been no demands for damages from the parents, but added that the network was considering compensation for the families.

TXN morning variety news presenter of Oha Suta and a Japanese voice actor named Koichi Yamadera, the televised viewer advises to limit what you are watching for epilepsy problems and other health-related concerns during the banned episode of Pokémon anime: "As you all know after the last night's airing on Tuesday night of Pocket Monsters, some people started to feel bad and even collapsed. Well, a lot of people are working right now to figure out how in the world something like this happened. We would like to ask you to please hold off on watching videos, either to rewatch the episode or because you missed it the first time, until they find a clear cause for what happened. Because if something like this were to happen again, all the people who love Pokémon, where everyone else too, would really sad", Yamadera said also in Japanese dialect.

Fuji TV releases a full statement during the said morning news programme: "The so-called Pokémon Panic occurred in our living rooms, with the repercussions continuing to be felt everywhere. We understand the techniques used in that particular episode are common in the animation industry. We do not fully understand the exact relationship between the show and the various symptoms that have appeared. But we here at JOCX-TV 9's Fuji TV are prepared to meticulously check any animation we're planning to air in the future to make sure it is safe to air".
Nintendo's powerhouse of flagship gaming franchise of Pokémon in Japan was no effect of it and was not connected through the anime for now. The English dubbed of Episode #38 in the United States of America (U.S.A.) will not air a banned episode and was later skipped for worldwide syndication as a safety pre-caution.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast-forward to late-June 2019, a smartphone case holding a virtual normal type known as Porygon was reportedly featured as an easter egg during a new game trailer of Pokémon Masters. There will be a little probability, for a return of the said Pokémon and was soon to be lifted once the anime will be re-debuted in a different generation.
TV Tokyo will soon charge with injury caused by corporate negligence, including all Pokémon animators and the entire production staff of Oriental Light and Magic (OLM). The anime itself automatically cancels out if proven guilty after the Series Premiere of Season 1 as according to the National Police Agency (NPA). But right now in the present, Pokémon anime continues to move forward for more new seasons. There is no sign at all for cancellation in the animated series, which is due to a popular demand.
Since both companies between TV Tokyo and OLM complies all the broadcast standards & laws, the Corporate Negligence will be stripped out in court for total violation and for a permanent closure of the said Japanese TV network. After almost 2-3 decades of the controversial epilepsy episode, the investigation has now been concluded forever.
The management and staff of TXN Networks including TV Tokyo publicly apologize all the national viewers in Japan, as well as the first-run international syndication. Pokémon anime assures their viewers with great care and the responsibility of the animation industry. Porygon is history of existence of Pocket Monsters in the world of anime.
