Saul Lieter
Saul Lieter was a jewish photographer that didnt decide to become a photographer from the start, he fell in love with abstract art and photography and so decided to leave his home and travel to New York. His work was not always noticed until he passed away. His photographs started to attract more attention due to his composition of each photograph. he photographed with a film camera and would also prefer to use out dated or expired films to give the effect on his images. he would use his surroundings to manipulate light into his photographs and also add colour to his films. he wasnt interested in the human emotions or expressions like the other street photographers, instead he focused on the colour of his environment, like neon lights or yellow taxi cabs. he would often use the smokes that were on the street or a foggy window to add interest into his images and thats what really drew my attention.

this photograph was shot through a foggy window/ glass and the way that everywhere was all blurrd up except for the yellow truck is in some way really beautiful, creatin gthis soft feel to the image. but then also having the harsh straight lines in the words written on the glass contrast the softness. I really enjoyed this image because its so simple, from the composition, to the subject and even the colouring is so simple with just that soft pop of yellow against the grey tones, but its still able to be such a beautiful and interesting piece.

he focused alot of his photographer to reflections, whether its of a clear window or a foggy window or even ones with raindrops. in all the photographs there was a sense of colour either from an object like the cab or the bus or if it was just from the film like the picture at the top. these photographs when taken normally would not have been interesting to look at but because he allowed an interruption to come between his photographs, that it made the image more appealing to me. the glass or the reflection distorts the image making it abstract, its merging different objects even scenery's into one image.
