Understanding

life is a metaphor with my family for the rag the rag next to the kitchen sink,

They scrub, rinse, and ring me dry,

I’ve done my job, cleaning their things to keep them happy,

Not literally, emotionally.

My mother was not my mother,

Just woman who took her life out on me,

She’d ring me out trying to get every last fiber out of me,

Ripping holes right through me until all the corners frayed,

Leaving me out in the sun to dry so everyone can see me.

They pass in their suburbans and sports cars on Sunday morning,

Picture perfect family,

“Look at him, no wonder that families so messy, he’s full of holes.”

No one asks where the holes came from or how they got there. I must’ve been the only one born with them.

So every Sunday I’d ask the questions to this guy in the sky who would give me no answers,

My Mother would force pills down my throat and swear to me he was listening,

You don’t come with holes you come whole and the family you keep keeps that hold,

Apparently not anymore,

Because now you hold me over your garbage can, all I can remember is all the messes I cleaned up for you.

always hoping you’d stop taking me for granted instead of putting me face down on the marble always cleaning up your messes,

I tried so hard to make you happy but the mess would come back because you’d always bring it back in,

In the heat of the south I lost my mind,

That mess became a mountain which became the skeletons in my closet and the elephant in my room,

From the beginning I could see my fibers bending and breaking, tearing and fraying, I knew this would always turn out this way.

So throw me away.

Then as a group we used different items to create different patterns and used a light projector in a dark room to get a more detailed background as you can see in the pictures to me it looked like something from either Alice in wonderland or a album cover and as you can see it projected onto my face to create a sort of pattern on my face

Disrupt 19-11-23

Taking inspiration from Aideen Barry's OBLIVION project, I combined what I learned in the Photosop Animate workshop and the Photogoraphy workshop to test out some moving image ideas. Using our own cheap projector in our apartment, I projected an animation I made previously over the faces and bodies of my friends. I played around with the angles, the focus on the projector, the exposure on my phone camera and the size of the projection. I edited the clips together in Clipchamp.

This is a storyboard outlining the flow of the story with ideas for audio as well as visual.

This was our basic setup.

These are sketchbook pages planning out the prep for shots like these. Also featured are plans to go further with the idea, on a bigger scale with more people featured.

These are some stills showing the difference in the hard and soft edge lights and the different compositions. I really want to experiment more with lighting and editing and push this idea as far as I can.
