I cannot stress enough that this might be the most important doll I've posted about.
Meet Jafra, the Palestinian fashion doll.
Information on her took a bit of digging, but as far as I can tell she debuted in either December 2015 or January 2016. She was initially available for purchase through her website, and after a year began to be (and still is as) sold at Hamleys in Jordan, UAE, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. In 2021 the Palestine Museum began selling her for $49.99 each, and is now completely sold out.
Each doll wears a detailed thobe, the longer one in front for their bridal collection. The thobe is a traditional Palestinian dress with tatreez (embroidery) which uses color to indicate what region the wearer is from. During the First Intifada in the 80s, it became a symbol of resistance against Israeli Apartheid, and of Palestinians' connection to their land. (Credit to Handmade Palestine and @nickysfacts for this information)
As far as I can tell based on discrepancy in stock photos, the dolls with embroidered thobes were considered collectors items with a higher price. Meanwhile the details might have been printed for playline/budget releases, likely to lower the price for better availability.
Jafra's dream is to "empower all the beautiful girls from the Middle East". She lives away from her homeland, but hopes to design and build her own house in Palestine. She grows Chamomile and Thyme in her garden, studies architectural design in college, and always tries to volunteer and help others. Her thobe binds her to her home country, passed down from her ancestors.
"Jafra is beyond a doll... beyond an idea. It's a deep-rooted tradition mixed with history and memories"
I hope I have made it abundantly clear that I do and always will support Palestine, and encourage anyone who considers this genocide a "war against Hamas" to unfollow and block me immediately. You have been given every opportunity to educate yourself and sympathize with the innocent Palestinians suffering at the hands of Israel, and your ignorance does not deserve a listening ear over them.
To my followers, I implore you to do your daily click. Contact your representatives. Attend protests. Donate or buy an e-sim if you can. We need to let our government know we are not going to fucking stand for this, and support Palestinians however remotely possible.
A ceasefire WILL be reached. Palestine WILL be free. No matter what actions Israel and its disgusting supporters commit Palestine WILL NEVER DIE.
Ramadan Kareem, and Free Palestine.

Ep8 "What Can The Damned Really Say To The Damned" rewatch thoughts (Part 2)
Here's my second set of things I noticed on my third rewatch! Part 1 is here if you missed it...
11. On Claudia's first visit to the forest, we can briefly see a red mark on one of the trees. When brightened up, it's clearly a handprint, in fresh blood. Edit: ah, it’s not blood but paint from the kids painting their hands and slapping trees to show how far they could go into the forest!
12. I totally missed that the BBC radio bulletin talks about looted art being loaded onto trucks to be taken back to Paris! So that’s how they knew to jump in a truck and be taken all the way there rather than just random hitch-hiking.
13. Morgan mentions that Louis's photo of Grace was printed onto albumen, by a glass-plate camera, and I was intrigued by this and wanted to learn more. If you're also interested, have a read of this Wikipedia article.
14. I thought I must've been missing some sort of reference in Daniel's “Maybe you’re just frosting the pie?” line (about Louis remembering Claudia dreaming), but Google has no evidence this is a saying? So it looks like this was just a Daniel-ism? How odd.
15. Ohhhhh it's a factory they're all camping in! That makes sense, with the thick walls and boiler room, but I couldn't quite work out whether it was a church or meeting hall or what.
16. Claudia is singing the Anna Anna nursery rhyme that the children just taught her in order to lure the pissing soldier into the woods. Nice touch!
17. Both soldiers from the woods are in Daciana's castle. First we see one in the room that Louis and Claudia pass through before the one on the table by the fire that she calls “a burnt tray of bread”. Guess this first guy just dies after a while? Or maybe Louis and Claudia finish him off?
18. In the Dubai bedroom, there’s nothing on Armand’s bedside table (nothing!) but on Louis’s side there are so many well-thumbed books, cascading from the nightstand onto the floor…
19. The TdV programme is for “Des Cris Dans Les Ténèbres!” (Shrieks in the Darkness). I love that the actual item is in French, but the posters up all around Paris are in English, because Louis would’ve translated them into English and that’s how he remembered them! The details! 🤌
20. In the truck scene, Louis is still healing from Daciana’s attack. It made me wonder how long it would take to drive (pre-motorways!) from Romania to Paris. So I looked it up, and using modern roads, but avoiding motorways, it'd take 31hrs straight. But they’d have to break to sleep somewhere safe in the day, and many of the roads and bridges would likely have been bombed and required detours, so I think we can assume it'd take several days to get there. So if Louis still isn't healed by the time we see them outside Paris, he is one seriously malnourished vampire. 😔 The blood really was bad there!
And that's my list of weird things I noticed in the first episode! Part 1 is here if you missed it, and do let me know in the notes if there's any of these you missed, too!

The French Journal
A Novel by Annabel Vallie
“Nothing ever ends poetically. It ends and we turn it into poetry. All that blood was never once beautiful. It was just red.” - Kait Rokowski
August.
Sunday, 6th August.
These last few days I have been savouring the simple moments that generally are ignored in life. Platting my hair until the end, until my split ends are roped into an orange braid. Brushing my teeth for four minutes, double the recommended time, letting my unfocused mind’s focused hand go over every tooth. Lingering on the tail ends of scents that float around, taking in every hint, every note; the top, the heart, the base. holding every hug, running my fingers over printed words read.
Sitting on the plane I’ve waited months to board I feel nothing. I was expecting a rush of pure freedom, but it didn't feel real. My body, just matter moving from one country to another. My mind filled with the doubt about my choice, the worry of what I am leaving behind, and the unknown of what lay ahead. I choose not to worry, not to think. My emotions are already delayed from the goodbyes whispered into tightly knit hugs. I do not feel anything but a patient waiting. I slow endless, tired wait. A slow-burning flame, patient for oxygen.
The flight from Brisbane to Dubai took fourteen hours, I couldn’t say it was a bad flight. The couple next to me, flying to England struck up a conversation in which we realised that they grew up in the town I was flying far away from. The Regional town that kissed Fraser Island on a map. The town where everyone knows everyone and clearly, it follows you out. When I arrive in Dubai, a motion-censored bottle sprayed a small layer of liquid over my palms as I walked to the gate of my next flight.
I brought my hand up to my nose to scratch an itch, that lay beneath a freckle. The faint smell of sanitiser lingered on the pads of my fingers, reminding me of the days when my mouth, muffled by cotton masks for hours on end would stifle words that longed to be spoken. My breath prayed for release, and my lungs wished for sweet, pure air. That was a year or two ago when the world stopped, and my memory froze with it. Technically that means I feel as if I am thirteen, instead of fifteen (My actual), But my soul and mind have been forced to a much older age. Older than my body shows.
After Dubai, the plane to Paris took seven hours and I spent the time, filling it with two and a half movies where the plot was underwhelming, sliped in and out of consciousness. Switching terminals from one to two, the first thing to greet me was a small white and powered blue macaroon shop. The little colourful creations were piled behind the clear glass and even in the cold tinted airport light, they were radiant and glowing with colour. I bought two for five euros (Ten dollars Australian), Caramel and a rose. They were the best I had had, perfect for my first food in France. Taking a photo and sending it to my mother I am reminded of the first time I had the dessert. I was ten, my mother had brought me into the city for the day and in the Queen Victoria building there was a small macaroon shop, quite like the one in the airport. We bought a box of six and shared, three each.
Another flight took me to the City of Nantes, where I will be living for the next six months. When I got off the plane a small woman holding a sheet of paper detailed, ‘Bonjour Annabel’ in purple pen greeted me. When I got to her I stood a full head taller than her and most likely double her weight. It's not that I’m fat, just strongly built, tall and she was quite the opposite. Her name was Camille and I was to live with her and her son Henri, the boy standing next to her. He was a bit shorter than me, about a year younger than me, and had a surfer look to him with dirty blond hair and tan skin. Camille had short, styled hair, large eyes and a pointed chin. It was an odd feeling seeing them. I spoke to Camille over text a handful of times, we were still strangers nevertheless. Maybe I made it awkward, but we hugged for a brief moment like two people who only know each other through a mutual friend. Crouching down slightly to accommodate her height I lightly held her back and pulled away after a short moment.
The first impression of Camille I had was driving from the airport to her flat. Her car was a small two-door mint-green Peugeot that you wouldn't look twice at while on the road. It didn’t have air conditioning, which meant the car was hot. Being in the middle of summer it didn't make the initial moment of getting in the heated box pleasant, but after a while with the windows down I didn't mind. She drove like a madman, with her hand gripping the clutch firmly, foot on the accelerator. As if she was ten minutes late for everywhere she was going.
Their flat, although riddled with peculiar decor and furniture, all came together to make the space very homely and comfortable.
Camille then took me to a room which was her daughter's (She was in New Zealand for an exchange, like myself), and left me to unpack. Looking around the space, I noticed and focused on the random crafts and a few toys left on her bed. While looking around, the only thought I could hear was ‘What have I done?’ the doubt blocking out any other spark of hope and excitement possible. The room had bits and bobs scattered around it, making it someone else’s. The little personal details stared back at me, shouting for me to get out. The small stickers on her mirror shamed me for intrusion and the makeup left out cried in fear of replacement. Reality seeped through my skin, washed over me like a king bathed in oil. The warm, slippery, thick liquid covered me, clinging to my flesh, filling my mouth and nose, making it impossible to breathe.
What have I done?

Majd Fadl Arandas (1994–2023)
The Palestinian artist’s images document and celebrate life in the Gaza Strip, excavating pockets of optimism and resistance amidst loss and destruction.
Majd Arandas was murdered by an Israeli airstrike near his home in the Deir al-Balah Governorate in the central Gaza Strip on Wednesday, November 1. Remembered by friends and colleagues as a "kind and gentle soul" .
The 29-year-old self-taught artist loved to take photographs of the Mediterranean sea and Gaza. The importance of the artist’s work lies in the urgency of documenting and celebrating Palestinian life, excavating pockets of optimism and resistance amidst loss and destruction.
His love for Gaza shone through in his photographs, seen in his steadfast portrayals of joy and beauty.
Whimsical compositions by the sea depict young boys jumping and playing. In a series of works focused on his grandmother, a survivor of the 1948 Nakba who was displaced from her native village of Isdud, Arandas portrays her as a symbol of strength and perseverance in Gaza, zooming in on her weathered hands harvesting olives against deep fertile earth.
Traces of personal and cultural histories can be seen in the crisp light of ripe olives and the details of intricate embroidery adorning her hanging dress.
Arandas had a network of colleagues and friends around the world whom he never met due to the restrictions of living under siege. Photojournalist Rita Kabalan explained that the conditions of the Israeli blockade prevented him from many opportunities, and that he was killed “just as people were starting to take note of his work.”
As Israel continues its deadly attacks on Gaza the West Bank and Cisjordania, Arandas contributed prints to a fundraising sale organized by the Dubai-based gallery Gulf Photo Plus.
The artist’s father, Fadl Arandas, recounted the circumstances of his son’s killing, explaining that Arandas ran to the top of the building when the bombing occurred to identify its source and then quickly left to help his afflicted neighbors. It was only a few minutes until they heard a second explosion of an Israeli missile that struck Arandas with shrapnel in the head and claimed his life.
“He dreamed of traveling to see the world,” said his brother Mou’ayad Arandas. “He was killed doing what he loved to do: helping people.”

Choosing the Right Printing Technology for Your Business Needs.
In today's dynamic business landscape, selecting the appropriate printing technology is crucial for ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. With various printing options available, making an informed decision requires careful consideration of several factors.
Understanding Your Printing Requirements
Begin by comprehensively evaluating your business's printing needs. Consider the volume of printing required, the type of materials to be printed on, and the desired quality and speed. For instance, a small office with minimal printing needs might find a basic laser printer sufficient, while a printing company specializing in high-quality graphics will likely require advanced digital or offset printing solutions.
Types of Printing Technologies
Laser Printing: Ideal for high-speed printing of text documents and basic graphics. It's cost-effective for office settings with moderate printing demands.
Inkjet Printing: Versatile and capable of producing high-resolution images, making it suitable for small-scale graphic printing and photo printing.
Digital Printing: Offers flexibility for short print runs, variable data printing, and on-demand printing. Well-suited for businesses requiring quick turnaround times and customization.
Offset Printing: Known for its superior quality in large-volume printing. It involves a more complex setup but delivers high-quality prints for brochures, magazines, and marketing materials.
Considerations for Selection
Print Volume: Assess the quantity of printing your business regularly requires. If it's high, offset printing might be more cost-effective despite the setup costs.
Quality Requirements: Determine the level of print quality needed for your materials. Inkjet and digital printing usually offer better color accuracy and resolution compared to laser printing.
Turnaround Time: If your business frequently needs quick prints, digital printing provides faster results as it doesn’t require the setup time that offset printing does.
Budgetary Constraints: Evaluate the initial investment cost, maintenance expenses, and overall operational costs of different printing technologies. Sometimes, a higher initial investment may result in long-term savings.
Consulting with Printing Experts
Engage with printing industry professionals or vendors to gain insights into the latest printing technologies and their suitability for your specific business needs. They can provide valuable guidance based on their expertise and experience.
Conclusion
Choosing the right printing technology involves a thoughtful analysis of your business requirements, considering factors such as print volume, quality, speed, and budget. By understanding these parameters and consulting with experts, businesses can make informed decisions that optimize their printing processes and enhance overall efficiency.

PHOTOSHOOT: MARINA FOR NOTION MAGAZINE
In a captivating fusion of past and present, Marina Diamandis graced the lens of renowned photographer Simon Harris for a dazzling 1980s-inspired photoshoot featured in Notion. With her signature charisma and an audacious wardrobe curated by the talented Namalee Bolle, Marina transported us back in time while showcasing her inimitable style.
Makeup by Maria Asadi and hair by Jay Doan, respectively.
For look n. 1, she wore a Chic Freak Spring/Summer 2015 blue & pink lycra swimsuit with mesh inset (similar pictured) which she paired with the Tara Starlet Victory high-waisted red wool wide-leg trousers with V cut-out at the waistband, and a pair of star-shaped dangle earrings by OMG Babez.
Marina then donned a stunning white & black polka-dot gown that oozed vintage charm. The dress, carefully curated from Dubai-based label Bambah‘s Spring/Summer 2015 collection, featured a timeless boat neck and striking balloon sleeves, capturing the essence of 1980s glamour. The gown's mermaid skirt gracefully cascaded to the floor, adding an element of drama and sophistication to the ensemble.
To complete this captivating look, Marina adorned herself with a touch of 1980s opulence. She elegantly sported a statement gold metal choker. This exquisite accessory, plucked from Gogo Philip's Fall/Winter 2015 lookbook, added a touch of decadence and extravagance to her ensemble.
Next, M wore the Nympha Turbo Lover long-sleeved mock neck mesh top featuring an all-over neon sign motif!
She also chose to don a pair of pink sequined pants adorned with a playful flower pattern. These eye-catching pants were sourced from House of Holland's exuberant Spring/Summer 2015 collection.
The choice of the vividly hued, sequined pants added an exuberant burst of color and energy to the shoot. It perfectly encapsulated the exuberance and daring spirit of the 80s fashion scene, where individuality and bold choices reigned supreme.
Her large crystal statement earrings are by OMG Babez.
The final look shows Marina sporting this House of Holland Pre-Fall 2015 orange paillettes mini dress with V-neck, and a pair of black lace pants by Motel!
She accessorized with the Moschino Cheap & Chic pink bouclé biker jacket and a pair of clear rectangular sunglasses by RockOptika.
Last but definitely not least, in a behind-the-scenes photo, M is seen wearing the Motel La Baby V-neck jumpsuit in "La Boheme" print ($74.00 - sold out).
The sick multicolored mosaic platform peep-toe pumps are from Mary Benson's 2014 collaboration with the 70's rock n roll cobbler himself, Terry de Havilland.
