31: Samhain
Well loves, we made it, Every damn day (except that first one, which I'll rectify when I consolidate) Thanks to @slowsweetlove for providing the Austin based jungle-gym for me to play on. And thanks to all ya'll for hanging out with me , and Austin and sometimes Callum for October.. Hawtober? Hmmm...
Those of you that like to read my mind smut, I'll be taking a digital break for a while. Y'know: touch some grass, do some knitting, bake some bread, paint, declutter, put up some preserves or something cool like that.

Warnings: missing the man, finding the man
You haven’t seen hide nor hair of Austin since those two weeks in New York. He had pretty much moved out of his hotel and into your apartment for the duration of his stay. He took you to plays, made you dinners and made sure a day didn’t go by without showing you that you mattered to him. That and he made sure your pussy stayed wet. You’d not had so much sex in your entire life. It was amazing.
Then he was gone.
Before he left, you two had agreed that, for now at least, you would keep it a ‘no strings attached’ kinda relationship. You had a whole bunch of work in the coming months and he was filming. He had explained that when he is working, he sometimes can’t really do anything else and usually his phone is taken from him. He had texted you, off and on for a while, but it had been radio silence for some time. You knew he was filming in Hungary then here stateside somewhere. It was surreal and sometimes you felt like those two weeks were from someone else’s life. The lingering fear that it would be another ten years before you saw him again was kept only at bay by Callum.
Cal had been far more communicative. He even popped into New York a couple times. Honestly he was far better at maintaining a friendship than Austin.
“Yeah, it’s not like he doesn't care, he just gets caught up in creating character and the artist aspect of it all. Time kinda doesn't mean anything when he gets like that. If you can handle that, you’ll be ok,” Cal had told you once at dinner.
Funnily enough, neither of you were as driven to fuck without Austin there. You joked how he was the sexy lynchpin.
Did you fuck anyway? Yeah, of course you did. But it was way more of a ‘friends with benefits’ feel than it had been with Austin.
Today though you are in the most unlikely of places. You are in Ohio for your cousin’s wedding. It was also Halloween, or Samhain, as she called it.
“It’s pronounced sow-een,” she kept telling anyone near with ears. She had this love affair with Halloween, excuse me, Samhain, so her wedding was gothy and occult themed. It was the only time she felt she could get away with it. Still there were grumbles from the relatives. Skulls, ravens and ouija boards outfitted each table, complete with Tarot decks and black candles as wedding favors.
She had arranged a palm reader and fortune teller the way other people had DJ’s and photo booths. The venu was out in a barn on her friends’ farm. You had come out that afternoon to help set it all up. The wedding wasn’t until after dark, of course.
Her little sister, who was in her mid teens, had brought over a Ouija board and plonked down on the table where you were sitting and tasting the special "black widow" cocktail complete with black glitter and a red spherical ice cube. You thought it was a drink that tempted fate, and hoped it wasn't predictive of your cousins marriage to be.
"Play with me," she had asked, "it's not fun alone."
You agreed, what harm could it have really.
She asked things like:
Are there spirits in the barn? 'no'
Has anyone died in here? 'yes'
Am I crazy? 'no'
Have I met the person I'll marry?
The planchet wandered to ‘no’ for her and practically zipped to ‘yes’ for you.
“Oooo, who is it! You have to spill, I’m dying to know!” she said wagging her eyebrows. She idolized you, living in the big city and making your own way in the world. You had promised her a trip to New York for a graduation present. She was definitely one of those black sheep of your midwestern family. Destined for something far bigger than marrying a local boy and popping out kids.
“I don’t know, could be anyone,” you laughed, “I live in a city with eight million people.”
“Ok, ok! Let’s try this. Ouija Board, where is this man?” she asks.
O-U-T-S-I-D-E came the answer.
“That’s unhelpful,” she made a sour face, “unless he’s like a forest ranger or something. Know any forest rangers?”
“No,” You just laugh it off. Ouija Boards were supposed to be for talking to the dead. You are pretty sure that you aren't going to marry someone dead.
It was then that you heard the tell tale sounds of an old motorcycle in the driveway.
“Oh yeah, they said there was a movie being filmed about motorcycles and that they might be using the front drive to turn around in,” your little cousin says, walking towards the barn door. “Isn't that so neat, a movie, here!! I wonder if it has anyone famous in it. OMG that’d be lit!
“I dunno, I’ll ask” you hear a deep voice outside.
You turn just to see the silhouette of a tall man in the bright square of the barn door.
“Excuse me, is there a restroom I could use here?” the timbre of the voice is unmistakable if layered with a Chicago accent.
“Austin?” his name drops out of your mouth like a spell.
It’s bewitching, the way he strides into the barn, his heels thunking on the old wooden floor. The lights finally uncover his features, and Austin only has eyes for you.
“Is it you? Is it really you,” he says disbelievingly.
“Me? It’s fucking you!” you retort, or try to. He is on you in seconds, gathering you in his arms.
He smells like cold air, motor oil and cigarettes. He kisses you, tasting faintly like whiskey. The world falls away and it’s only you two.
“I’ve been missing you,” he says, placing his forehead on yours.
“Me too, so much,” you breathe back, hardly believing this is real.
You stay there for the span of two breaths, until your little cousin squeals, “Oh my god it was right, he WAS OUTSIDE!”

wherE THE HELL DID WADE KEEP THE GLASS FLOWER. HE HAS NO PANTS. NO POCKETS. HE'S TRANSPARENT SO WED SEE IF IT WAS IN HIS WATER. WHERE DID HE KEEP IT?
It's possible that water people shirts have pockets on the inside i guess but still???
When Ember's light does the thing while she's fixing the leak with the glass
"More time for hanky-panky" how was that allowed?? Like it's not that bad, it's funny, but still???
Alkali theater. I feel like that's a joke relating to elements but I'm too lazy and stupid to figure it out lmfao
In the movie theater Ember gets excited about something in the movie and lights up, then notices that people around her are bothered by her glowing and crouches down and pulls her hoodie over her head further, suppressing her glow. Wade notices and his smile fades a little.
Ember is so smart?? Her quick thinking and ingenuity??? Also she and Wade's ability to ad lib off of each other when trying to keep their secret from Bernie (in the scene where they pretend Wade is a food inspector) is another Yes for their relationship lol
Ember can be seen crying a few times during the movie after the point where Wade first makes her cry during the family game.
Ember watching Wade in the stadium scene is, I think, where she first becomes attracted to him. The event impressed her enough for her to bring it up later!
Half of this is just me not looking at the damn screen enough. Wade and Ember hugging as Wade evaporates is low key terrifying?? It's so sad???

Ember looked angry at Wade in the photo booth but I can't figure out why? I wonder if it's because he leaned close to her and she's afraid of being near water?
"I just didn't know she'd be so smoky...*cough cough*" depending on how much universe context you want to add to this, it can be either very endearing or lightly racist. Judging by the reactions of the characters, Ember doesn't seem too offended, but still.
The reason that Ember isn't able to simply "take breath, make connection" as Bernie instructs is because in order to do that, her father wants her to just give the customer what they want instead of teaching her how to calmly and professionally enforce shop rules. This causes her to push her own feelings down, which overwhelms her tremendously. The perspective that Wade gives her, advising her to listen to the deeper emotions underneath the temper and communicate them, (for example to her father about not wanting to take over the shop), is very healthy and important because he encourages her to verbalize her boundaries/wants/needs without losing control. The fact that he doesn't stand up FOR her, too, most of the time, is very cool. He simply encourages her to verbalize her feelings and stand up for herself. Additionally, this is also a feminist message, because women are often taught that they should never get angry and to repress their anger, when in fact they should be taught how to listen to and communicate their anger without harming anyone. OK. Show’s over. Cold Cave says good night and Warsaw clears out. Everyone go home. I head to the ‘G’ subway line to get to Court Square but, lucky me, the line is shut down for repairs. The MTA / LIRR in New York City and on Long Island respectively is a necessary evil which tells you to go fuck yourself on a daily basis. Now what? Good thing there a free shuttle bus that takes us right to Court Square which takes me to the ‘E’ line all the way to Jamaica station. What does Tropic Of Cancer’s “More Alone” have to do with any of this? It’s what was playing on my iPod Classic (160GB) on the shuttle route to Court Square, a mode of transportation I haven’t taken since last decade when my ex- Yenny and I took to Rochester to see Projekt Revolution.
Part Two. “Osiris Rises” was what came on next when boarding the ‘E’ line to the Jamaica stop. The ‘E’ was the most exhaustive subway ride I ever taken at 10 separate stops over 45 minutes to get to where I needed to. Subway rides are also where you meet and chatter with random people, such as one young lady who was to get off halfway. Imagine Lorde but without make-up, shorter with curves and wider-than-normal hips; straight shoulder-length honey hair wearing a pink ringer tee and a knee-length denim skirt. I’m truly experiencing a dream in the real world where things could have and may have been possible but never would be, but for once it is. We talked about how impatient we were taking a tiring ride to our respective destinations. Her complexion was a little unique and nothing I seen before from from the opposite sex on an every day basis, hence why I kept glancing at her to figure her out. She dispersed the ‘E’ line before I did and that was it. She was now a memory attached to all of the night’s events, and someone I will never ever see again.
I hung on and finally made it to the Jamaica stop but realized that this station wasn’t familiar to me? I was supposed to get off on Sutphin Blvd., the booth operator told me. I hop on the ‘E’ line again going the opposite way, sitting inside a near empty car on a 15-minute standstill. That’s when “She-Women Of The SS” came on the randomizer. The eerie but colorful two-bit electronic bleeps slowly creep in, filling up the otherwise silent scene as I waited for the subway cars to close doors and shift on. One stop the other way and it’s Sutphin Blvd. to walk to the real Jamaica stop home. I look at my watch: it’s 12:35 AM. I look at the take-off, my train leaves at 12:36 AM. Time to hustle my ass upstairs. I board the Jamaica train with about one minute to spare, stealing it like Jacob Ellsbury stealing home plate. Had I missed the Jamaica bolt, I’d be fucked, because I had to be at work by 9:45 AM.
Jamaica to Deer Park. Why Deer Park? Because it’s a $4.00 difference between that station and Brentwood. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) prices its’ tickets according to zones. Now you know why commuters roll the dice to find a parking spot during sunshine hours. I sit down and at first it’s quiet. I’m on the right-hand side mid-car, facing and riding east. For the first half of the ride my music is turned up. Earphones pushed in and I normally don’t care about what’s around me. Melody’s Echo Chamber’s “Cross My Heart” plays. (Don’t ask me why other than the answer is that I’m auditioning for future radio broadcasts. With my history, I wouldn’t be caught dead with something like it.) I turn it down, half-hear, and look up to see some 50-something Long Island stereotype complete with a loud drawling Boston / Brooklyn / Jersey-bred accent. It’s the worst linguistic amalgam I could imagine. She’s waving her phone around blasting Hall & Oates and showing everyone in vicinity her friend’s wedding photos, like anyone cares. You guessed it: it’s drunk hour on the train. Everyone’s sitting helpless watching this loud donkey and she didn’t give a fuck what people thought of her, but someone else gave it a try.
This 20 year-old kid was fed up and wasn’t having it. He yelled at her to stop and said his piece of mind; b-bombs, expletives, four-letter words and all. We now have a squabble. It got everyone’s attention including our star of the show. He laid it down on her thick. A back-and-forth ensued and eventually two other friends of hers jumped in, even “apologizing” to him for her behavior but gave her a pass because “it’s drunk hour and it’s expected”. Civility flies out the window and now we got a shouting match. Both sides called bullshit and held mirrors on each other in the ultimate race to see who’s more righteous. The drunk lady then spat her wad of gum at the kid and everyone gasped. The charming young man quivered in shock that she spat her gum at him, but he still kept going. Two more stops to go; him and his crew said “fuck this”, got out of their seats and waited to get off the train. She still was mouthing off all the way home, threatening to call her husband up to meet them at their stop. But, at least she said “goodbye” and “have a good night!” to everyone else not involved.
