6 Minute Read: A short fiction inspired by the theory of terraforming I submitted a short story to Reedsy's weekly writing prompt contest inspired by what I learned in astronomy. Last week's theme was flash fiction and had to be under 1500 words. Prompt: “I’ll be brief,” they said, and you knew it meant a speech was coming. Title: RELOAD Preview: Planet Eiden was found shortly after scientists secured a method of space travel that was faster than the speed of light. Its solar system was forty light years away and orbited around a star called the Newsun, which had the same properties as the earth’s sun; Eiden’s distance to the star was congruent to that of the earth and the sun. Nine earthlike planets lined up in the same orbital location, meaning there were nine more planets that could house humans. Post Eiden’s industrial development, those who demonstrated honorary capabilities had been invited into a world of business elites. Rose Warner, a sixteen year old girl, stood in line outside of the New Citizen Orientation, angry that her parents insisted she come along to live a life of stability and success in Eiden- a life where certain tragedies were considered obsolete, which Rose argued was impossible.
