Jonathan Kent saw this whole situation as Lex trying to interfere with Jonathan's relationship with Kent.
But it was exactly the opposite. Lex hates the idea of Jonathan and Clark fighting and in this scene, he reminds Clark of how great Jonathan is and how Clark should just suck it up and go fishing with him. Because Jonathan just wants to spend time with Clark and that is something Lionel never ever wanted to do with Lex. And Lex vocalizes his envy of that.
Actually now I kind of want to do a fic where Jonathan ends up inviting Lex fishing and Lex is like "mmmmmmaybe, I dunno, super busy...." and then shows up on the Kent's door at like 4AM the next day in full fishing attire like I'M READY DAD, LET'S GO.

Thanks for the tag, buddy @makeyouminemp3
Last Song: I do believe that it was Praying by Kesha, which is such a good song and I think everyone should listen to it at least once in their life and no, I am not joking.
Currently Watching: Oof, I have quite a lot. I'm watching My Adventures With Superman, The Secret Circle, Bridgerton, Smallville, and Grey's Anatomy. I am also re-watching Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and watching Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy with @makeyouminemp3
Favorite Color: It's a tie between orange and purple, and no, it's not because I read PJO and HOO by Rick Riordan.
Sweet, Savory, or Spicy: It really depends on my mood. I'm South Asian, so I love me some sweets and spicy food, but savory foods are also really good.
Last Movie: The Lego Batman movie because it just came on Netflix, and I've been dying to re-watch it. Besides Bruce lusting over Barbara (which still gives me the ick), it's still such a great movie and a good Batman movie.
Currently Reading: I'm currently reading through the Dark Phoenix saga, which is fun and interesting. I'm also 70% of the way through The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. It's... something. I mean, I appreciate the idea of someone good and pure being corrupted by society, and I definitely appreciate the friendships that border on homosexual relationships. However, the racism and antisemitism put into the novel by Wilde are pretty bad, and yes, I understand that these were just the period-typical biases, but it's still really awful to read about.
Relationship: I am single. In the past few months, I've come to realize that maybe I'm demi. Which is very confusing for me because I have a fondness for reading and watching about romance, but apparently, you can like shipping even if you are aspec. In real life, I don't feel romantic inclination towards people unless I have a strong connection with them, but I am capable of it, I think.
Current Obsessions: Well, I'm really into superheroes' media and comics, but that's been true for the past few years. My other obsessions are frequently on and off, like Yu-Gi-Oh, Gilmore Girls, First Kill, the Grishaverse, House Of Anubis, and many more.
The Last Thing You Googled: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because I was curious about where it originated from, and I read through the entire Wikipedia page.
Currently Working On: Nothing at the moment because I have been very busy for months.
Tagging: @paladin-of-nerd-fandom65 @confusedhummingbird and anyone else who wants to do it.

The thing about watching Smallville is, after, any time someone says something mean about Lex Luthor, the spirit of Michael Rosenbaum possesses you and produces a briefcase and attorney badge and immediately goes to work like Phoenix Wright

Tropes: Batman Gambit, Mythical Motifs, Luke, I am your father
Batman Gambit
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know |
HELL YES. It can be incredibly satisfying to watch (although I have to say I love Indy Ploy -aka improv artists xDD- and Spanners in the Works -aka characters that FRUSTRATE Batman Gambits- as well).
Some of my favourite characters really pull these off quite well: Angel, Captain Flint (when he tricked Dufresne <333. Billy is actually quite good at these too. Well, many characters in this show lol), Patrick Jane, the characters of Leverage, Nikita, Root... the first season of Prison Break relied on this AND on unpredictable characters, making it one of the most entertaining seasons of tv I've watched. Michael vs. Eleanor in The Good Place worked as a Batman Gambit vs. Spanner in the Works really well, too.
Mythical Motifs
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know |
They're neat. I particularly love a phoenix motif lol. Like Lana in Smallville when she got powers *-*
Luke, I am your father
No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know |
Listen, I've loved some "surprise relative" plots (I even have one in the works myself lol). But I sure chose to answer this ask in an unfortunate day LOL.

S3E2: Phoenix
Oh Jesus it’s been a whole 2 months since I last watched any Smallville and in that time I somehow managed to forget about Lex living on a desert island with his imaginary boyfriend, so that recap section hit me like a sack of angry ferrets to the face
I think this episode opened with Clark murdering Jonathan, which I am so here for
Oh no, apparently Jor-El gave Jonathan superpowers off screen. Because that’s the sort of thing you shouldn’t show on screen obviously
Time to dramatic shirt rip, under 2 minutes, excellent
“If I could raise a son who could kill, I’d rather be dead” boy do I have some news for you about S1E1 Jonathan my dude
“Oh honey we never blamed you for me loosing the baby!” Hey Martha maybe you should check with Jonathan before saying something like that, given he very much did exactly that, or was gaslighting your son your whole plan?
Say what you like about Buffy, at least there were consequences for her running away from home at the end of season 2. Clark can apparently dose himself up on PCP, become a professional bank robber, and then try and murder his own father, and just waltz back into his life without consequences
God I love tiny gay Lex Luthor. I do have to ask how the fuck he got back from Jamaica though, given he’s got no money, no ID, and HE’S LEGALLY DEAD! How the fuck did he pay for flights?!
I do admire Jonathan’s consistency when it comes to anything being morally okay as long as it’s Lionel who’s the victim. “You can’t steal, Clark, that’s wrong!” “But it was from Lionel.” “Oh, lmao that’s totally cool then”
If a suicide is a real cocktail no one tell me because Lionel and Rutger Hauer apparently used to drink them when they were young and based on how it looks, I’m guessing the main ingredients are advocat and tango
Also I’m pretty sure Lionel and Rutger used to fuck, I’m getting strong Giles and Ethan Rayne vibes from this conversation
How do we tell people this is a flashback? Oh I know, lets cover everything with so much bloom it looks like a 360 launch title and no one can see what’s going on, you know, like the past looks
Angry-cupboard-sex-doctor (who is getting abbreviated cos she’s in this episode a lot) is serving strong season 3 Morganna energy and I love it. She’s like the straight woman’s Katie McGrath, I really hope she sticks around as a season villain
Oh Chloe’s hair is so much worse now! Given who the actress turned out to be as a person she deserves it, but it’s still phenomenally terrible. Hands up who remembers Balamory?
“We all do things we regret” yes but being a massive bitch generally has less consequences than TAKING PCP AND BECOMING A BANK ROBBER. He’s not running from himself he’s running from the law
Literally the first thing Lex says to Clark after 3 months of being legally dead is a pick up line. I appreciate your dedication to your brand tiny gay Lex Luthor
Holy shit actual confirmation that Lana doesn’t got to school any more. Go to school Lana! You can’t keep running an ancient Egypt themed coffee shop for the rest of your life!
Okay, I know she’s an objectively terrible love interest given the whole murder thing, but Lex just implied he killed his dad and ACSD was definitely into that, and damnit I just want them to be happy! She’s so much better than Clark, why the fuck is he still into this dickhead when he’s got this homocidal queen as an option?
I love that Rutger Hauer just takes it on trust that the thing Lionel is hunting for is a mason jar full of this random farm boy’s blood, he’s just like ‘yeah, that seems like a thing Lionel would be into’
Lana arrives at the Kent farm, walks up to the most gangster looking gangster to ever be a ganster, who is literally holding a gun and leaning against a black SUV, and is just like ‘hey didn’t know the kent’s had visitors’ and fucking immediately gets taken hostage
But then immediately fucking murders a guy, holy shit, Lana actually did something that contributed to the plot and it’s really sad that the closest thing to agency Lana has is when she stabs a guy to death with a pitchfork, what the fuck
I’m pretty sure Lex is about to kill ACSD, but fuck if I’m not enjoying the two of them standing on a private plane drinking champage and sniping at each other like they’re in a tenessee williams play
Oh my god they shot the fucking pilot. Lex has literally been back from the dead a day, and he’s in another fucking crashing plane, what the actual fuck????
Aaaand there goes ACSD right out the crashing plane. Goodnight sweet bitch, you were the only good love interest lex has ever had, may a flight of angels sing thee to thy rest
You’ve heard of day for night shooting, now get ready for we can only use this set at night as we’re just going to adjust the brightness and hope you don’t notice! (Spoiler, we noticed)
Clark’s jeans and plaid shirt are fireproof. They’re literally fucking fireproof. Which I guess makes sense given he sets shit on fire every time he gets horny but even so. Does explain where all the Kent’s money goes not they’re not going to the feed store every epsiode.
Oh to be Lionel, sitting in the dark drinking scotch and listening to opera, waiting for my son to get back from murdering his wife, so I can congratulate him on becoming a true Luthor
Credit to the makeup artists for giving lex scars and sunburn, and then remembering that they did it. That’s not the kind of consistency I expect from this show but I appreciate it
LEX GETTING FATHER FIGURES LEX GETTING FATHER FIGURES the only thing I want more than that is for them to bring back Lex’s long lost brother and for chloe sullivan to get possessed or something so I don’t have to deal with her. Where’s Joey Wilson when you need him?
I love how they managed to turn superman of all the fucking characters into a YA supernatural love triangle story
Lana has a new horse. She’s never owned a paint horse before. WHAT IS SHE DOING TO HER HORSES?????????????????? I need to know!
Clark just conclusively told Lana he’s not interested. Who wants to bet the writers have forgotten that by the start of next episode?

Sorry, but no definitly not the 90s!!
So thanks to “Crisis on Infinite Earths” I saw a lot of people making references to “Superman Returns” and “Smallville” of late. Sadly a decent amount of them has no idea when this stuff happpened. And I should not take this personally, but ....
Everytime I see someonce claiming that “Smallville” or “Superman Returns” happened in the 90s I feel a ever growing need to yell at them: “I am not that old!”
So: I AM NOT THAT OLD!  IT’S THE 2000s! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
I know you are all babies with no sense for when what happend, so let an old person tell you the facts.
FYI, “Smallville” aired between 2001 and 2011. It ended only a season before “Arrow” came on. “Superman Returns” hit the cinemas in 2006, which was only 13 years ago! The movie got produced during “Smallvilles” tenure on TV, which is why the people behind the script set down with the writers of the show, so they would not end up telling the same story by accident (yes, back then Warner wasn’t as crazy as today, and people working from the same source actually talked to each other because they thought that would be a good idea).
How do I know all of this, you may ask. Well, obviously because I am ancient and was around and mentally aware back then. Also I did read genre-mags, I was informed. So I knew about “Smallville” long before I saw it, but my first episode was actually pretty memorable, cause I saw it in the US.
We made a school trip to the states during an exchange programm, and spend a month or so on an American High School. To put this in context: It almost didn’t happen. We were scheduled for a autum trip, but 9/11 changed it all. Then Anthrax happend, and we flew anyway, however not to San Franciso, because appareantly we were all Nazis and not welcome, so we went to L.A. instead. This was february 2002. My guest father got me to watch “Smallville” with him. “Bascially it’s about Clark Kent, when he was still a boy.” I was a first season freak-of-the-week-episode, and I think it was the one with Shawn Ashmore, but I might be wrong about this (however the date would be right - see kiddies, this is the internet, if you are unsure about something, you can just google it, and find out that the Shawn Ashmore-Episode of “Smallville” Season 1 actually aired in February 2002). So I pretty vividly remember the circumstances around this one.
I also do remember the circumstances around “Superman Returns”. “X-2″ was great movie with a pseudo-cliffhangar, Jean Grey was dead, but maybe not, we knew she was going to go Dark Phoenix in “X-Men 3″. But than Bryan Singer pulled from the third part, in favour of fullfilling his childhood dream to make a Superman-flick. And he took James Marsden with him, which is why Cyclops is killed be Phoenix in “The Last Stand”. And which is why “X-Men: The Last Stand” got inflicted on us they way it was. Me and many of my generation will never forgive Bryan Singer for that one. “Superman Returns” wasn’t even that great, either. It started the ill-fated trend of modern technologie in old-fashioned settings. Which was okay for that particular movie, but never did make much sense anywhere else. Also, to be honest, I thought the movie was rather boring. I saw it at least twice, maybe even three times, but I can’t tell you the plot. Lex Luthor, played by Kevin Spacey, had a gigantic drill and dug up something for some reason - or something like this. On the bright side: James Marsdens character didn’t die, it was the first time we a saw a super baby anywhere (Clark didn’t know it was his), and the movie gave us the best modern-day Superman/Clark Kent - wonderful Brandon Routh, who made us happy as Ray Palmer in the Arrowverse since Arrow Season 3 since then.
So, now that you have some cultural and historical context: Please, remember, that “Smallville” und “Superman Returns” were very much products of the 2000s not the 90s.
In the name of Brandon, Tom, Erica, Michael and all the others, I beg you: Don’t make us older than we really are!

Clark's first moment on earth was with Lex.
You know I think I'm into Clana, I think I accept Clois, and then this fuckin show hits me in the face with the most earth shattering goddamn soulmate--
I have more to say about this scene, but the Clex of it all. Lex's rebirth and Clark's rebirth. They have been connected from the moment Clark arrived.

asddf @atomghosted ( you changed your url, i mini-freaked thinking you were gone and then NOPE it was just another bout of me being duped by these halloween urls ) but okay so as far as quality goes i feel like???? this babe takes the cake. graphics, writing, personality, characterization --- and i’m a sucker for blogs that take a minor character and just breathe life into them. and that’s exactly what’s done here. granted i haven’t seen more than a season of arrow but i can tell you that as far as ray palmer goes, a++++++++++

#TeamALA Staff Profiles
Meet Tina Coleman, Membership Specialist, ALA Membership
What do you do at ALA?
My official title is Membership Specialist and I most of my work is with membership engagement projects. If ALA has a booth at a conference, it’s likely I helped to put it together. I also am the co-lead on ALA’s social media team, I organize the ALA Lounge and the Networking Uncommons at ALA Annual and Midwinter, and I’m the staff liaison to the Gaming Round Table, the Graphic Novels & Comics in Libraries Member Interest Group, and the Virtual Communities and Libraries Member Interest Group.
Why do you think libraries / librarians are important?
I think libraries are important because they offer a space for everyone with no questions asked. Libraries provide materials for study, entertainment, and enrichment no matter what your interest is. Librarians are important because it’s hard to navigate the vast landscape of available information on your own. Having a guide that is trained in how to evaluate information is vital in the modern world.
What do you love about your job?
I absolutely love the librarians I get to work with every day. To see and hear about the passion and creativity they bring to their work is humbling. I feel very lucky to be able to learn so much from our community.
What is something cool you’ve accomplished lately at ALA?
I have a couple of things I’m pretty proud of lately. One is these staff profiles. J Having the chance to highlight the wide range of smart and creative people that I work with is pretty amazing.
Working with the Graphic Novel MIG I’ve also helped to build a presence for libraries and librarians at some of the biggest comic conventions in the country. We’ve had programs and booths and events at New York Comic Con, C2E2, Denver Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con, and this year we’re working on some things for Emerald City Comic Con. This is something I’ve worked on for more than five years, so to see it grow and take off has been a lot of fun.
What do you like to do outside of ALA?
I’m pretty crafty, so I like to make things. I sew, and embroider, and I love photography. I really like to make art.
ALA Pro Tip?
If you want to get involved in the Association, find your niche and dig in. It’s not always so easy you might need to try out a few things before deciding what you want to work on. Ultimately, though, it your voice – YES YOU – that makes the wheels move.
What are you reading?
I usually do audiobooks, so I can absorb books on the go. I’m re-listening to the Harry Potter books and I’m about a quarter of the way through Order of the Phoenix. It’s so good!
What are you watching?
At the moment I’m re-watching Smallville. It was easy to do during the holiday season while I was too busy to focus fully on something new. I’m just over halfway through the run already. It’s still one of the best retellings of Superboy ever done!
I did go see a lot of movies recently, though so shout out to Hidden Figures and Rogue One and Moana!
What are you listening to?
At this very minute it’s Los Lobos “I Got Loaded” but I’ve also been jamming to the Hamilton cast album, Frank Tuner, and a bunch of francophone bands from Quebec – karkwa, Malajube, Les Trois Accords.
During the work week I try to post a song of the day outside my office :-P

Oh my God it’s everything I ever wanted. Clark’s acting pretty mature most of the episode, Lex handles his own shit, that hug when they first see each other again if my life blood, Lana and Chloe being Real with each other, Clark and Lana and Clark and Chloe having good (if sad) conversations, and then. I mean. And THEN.
“I hope you’ll just consider me part of the family.”

Like sign me the fuck up. I am so here for this. Everyone ends that scene so happy I CAN’T.

And then I’m sitting here, side-eyeing Clark like

I don’t know exactly what Clark does to fuck this up, but I know it’s his fault. I know it in my soul.
