Hello Haribon hatchling! She knows Philippine Eagle Week is coming this June 4 to 10! Did you know that nests of Philippine Eagles can be as big as a king sized bed, up to 2 meters in diameter*? June is also Philippine Environment Month!
*2 meter nest size from Tatiana Abaño et al., 2016 of the Philippine Eagle Foundation.

Needed coffee and air con to finish some art. Hoping Typhoon Betty leaves PAR pronto.
Just learned Luzon PH eagle nests are smaller than those in Mindanao. Tatiano Abaño, et al says it might be because Luzon gets 80% of typhoons.

Baby pictures of Pag-asa, the first Philippine eagle born and bred in captivity.
His hatching on January 15, 1992 was a culmination of over a decade of research by the Philippine Eagle Foundation. He was named the Tagalog word for “hope” as a symbol for the survival of his critically endangered species.

The Ring of Brass.
I have finished the rewatching of the series and its still top tier storytelling. One of my favourite short (ish) stories.

I recently illustrated a memo game "Endangered Animal Babies" for Treecer. This memo game contains 72 unique illustrations and 36 endangered animal species. Each pair consists of the parent and the baby animal and all the illustrations were done in watercolor.
I'm really grateful for this opportunity and very happy with the outcome of the game! The game is sold by WWF Finland and Treecer at the moment.

Say hello (or goodbye) to Haring Ibon’s favorite food! In Mindanao, Philippine Eagles eat lots of flying mammals such as the Philippine Flying Lemur or Kagwang. In Luzon, they eat a lot of cloud rats, specifically Yut-yut (𝘗𝘩𝘭𝘰𝘦𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘴)! (Abaño, et al. 2016, RT Chua-Barcelo 2014). Philippine eagles are also “opportunistic feeders” or eat what is available in the forest (Panopio 2017, Kennedy 1977). This means that a healthy forest = more cloud rats, kagwang, and other food items = more Philippine Eagles! This strengthens “the need to maintain and enhance existing local conservation strategies,” as mentioned by Abaño, et al., 2016. A wide variety of food sources is important for biodiversity, and people too. Protect your local palengke or merkado, and protect your local forests! Further reading: TRC Abaño, et al., 2016.
