Arin has to break her stare to stop herself from falling even more and tries to regain her posture. “Come here.”

He just can’t himself, the mobile game he was playing was addicting, and good players only play in the evening.

For sure, Felipe is not an insecure person, especially regarding his looks. But he does get conscious whenever Arin is around.

It’s his reflex to look dashing and handsome so that Arin’s eyes would only focus on him and nothing more or no one else.

It does not matter that when time could finally catch up on them, their hair turning gray, their skin wrinkled, or their bones brittle. She would continue standing there beside him.

And despite their separation for nearly four centuries. Years of yearning, loneliness, and pain. She reminds herself that she had loved him longer than that. And will continue to do so.

How could she not?

He was her sun, her light, and even her breath. He was the air that would drive the sails of the ships bringing her to places she had never been but would always cherish.

He would sing songs for her, dedicating his passion and love for her that made her fall deeper than ever before. And she would not worry about falling because she already knows - he would catch her no matter what.

And she promises that as long as he accepts her, she will be his till eternity.

Hearing her chuckle, Felipe turns off his cell phone and then puts his attention towards her. She still looks adorable when laughing. And he can’t help lovingly smiling at her.

As he was never loyal to a single God. For he believes in two.

The Almighty God. And this Goddess in front of him.

She had made him do things he never thought he could.

He made her sonnets, songs, and poems that could make any creature who reads them blush. At first, he wrote on leaves, bamboo, and copper. But as those vanish due to time and colonization. He did not let it stop him.

Despite his memories slowly fading, forgetting her name but never her face. He continues writing - now, using paper, until those pilled up and turned into books. Books that did not mention her name but perfectly describe his devotion unto her.

He prays to God every single day and those prayers contain wishes of happiness and protection for her. And for him to meet her again.

Felipe then approaches Arin after she had stopped her laughing. Standing beside her, he asks. “Is my beauty that dazzling that it makes you laugh hard?”

Now he is not acting. His heart is literally under attack. Dramatically Felipe sits into the nearest chair like the drama king he is. And Arin follows and sat next to him, still laughing at his state.

Arin was - is always on Filipe’s side. Even if the world would go against him, she would stay. She would not allow the two of them to separate again. She does not want to again experience those bitter lonely centuries without him.

And this time, she would do anything for it to never happen. She would never let him experience the same loneliness she felt without him.

She was drowning in her tears at the news of his fall in the hands of those colonizers. She wanted to go sailing into his kingdom and demand his return. But her Sultan did not allow her to do so. And then the war happened, and she lost him.

And thankfully, he came back.

But it was painful to know that some of his memories had begun to fade. Gone were those times when they were sailing across the seas, trading with powerful kingdoms, and fighting together against one of the largest empires in the region… And even their marriage.

She bitterly curses that man for the damages he has done. But despite that, he still remembers her face. He still remembers her. And she could not help but cheer when he did.

She now knows that, despite the years of separation. She still has a place in his life. A place where she could still stand beside him and admire his overflowing beauty and brightness.

Boldly, Arin pulls her chair closer to him and stares him directly in the eyes. Those beautiful purple eyes of his. “You have always looked majestic and beautiful Malic.”

The look they give one another can only be described as pure unimaginable love. A love that transcends time. An unconditional love that can never be replaced despite years of separation.

The level of love is never constant; it consistently changes. But it is without a doubt that these two will choose each other to spend their every day with one another. And for the two of them, no one is comparable to their lover. Arin will always be Felipe’s. And Felipe will always be Arin’s. They are for each other and no one else.

Seeing his effect on her, Felipe smiled brightly. Then unexpectedly pulls her into a short embrace. Their embrace is cut short, but Felipe still holds her hands, and laughing twirls her around and dances.

Her foot was uncoordinated, expected from a woman being caught off guard. But after a few moments, she managed and followed Felipe’s lead.

The two then start to dance across the room. No choreography nor digital music were accompanying them, except for Felipe’s humming.

This moment, though not planned, reminded Arin of the days of the past.

It was just like this. The dancing alone, feet on the warm white sands, the moon being their only source of light, the calming sound of the waves, and the beautiful voice of Felipe ringing in her ears. It was peaceful, and relaxing.

And Arin couldn’t help but immerse herself and close her eyes. Leaning into his chest. An action she always does when she is comfortable when she feels at home. Well, she is home.

His memories may have blurred a few moments with her. Taking out the past images of him holding her. But it did not take how it felt to be in this position.

Her body radiates the warmth he craves every night when he was alone without her. The soothing scent she emits pacifies him. The softness of her body molded into his. And importantly, her. Her being with him. Him being with her. He could not ask for anything more.

For Arin, Felipe was her Always. And for Felipe, Arin is his idea of everlasting beauty.

The two continue on slow dancing inside the room not knowing how long has time passed by nor do they really care. They only put their entire attention on themselves, on the small world they created and they cherish and love.

They did not notice how the other ASEAN nations enter the room looking for the two of them. Malaysia was about to loudly call them, but thankfully Singapore manages to reach up and cover his brother’s mouth.

Indonesia covers Timor Leste’s eyes in hopes that the little girl did not see anything. Whilst his face turned red in the intimacy of his fellow South East Asian neighbors.

Thailand only responds by smugly snapping a picture of the couple, cheering internally at their cuteness and silently congratulating them.

Vietnam simply hides in her nón lá in embarrassment as she thought that they were intruding on the couple and wants to leave them alone ASAP.

Cambodia reacts by hiding behind the taller Laos who snickered and in turn videos the dancing couple with no shame. Also planning to upload it into their group chat later.

Myanmar just shrugs and continues eating the Bein mont he bought earlier from a local street vendor.

The other South East Asian nations with their different reactions continue to silently stare at the two - well except Timor Leste.

The moment was only broken when someone loudly asks.

"Butata" from Laon is easily the top track with it's basketball-themed lyrics referencing the anime Slam Dunk, which was a hit in the Philippines back in the 2000s. "Butata" literally means getting zero points or losing a game. It's a gritty, hard-hitting track that reflects Pablo’s ability to mix emotional vulnerability with strong, impactful lyricism.

I like all the songs in Alon, especially "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and "Drowning in the Water." The former (TBWCW) is surprisingly not about the boy who cried wolf but about the boy who is also the wolf at the same time, and he's having a dialogue with himself. The latter is a song he wrote about a decade or so ago. Let me add "Wala" as well.

Josh

In 2023, Josh launched his solo single "Wild Tonight," which blends dark, edgy themes with electronic pop influences.

Josh later released "1999" this year, which reflects his personal memories and nostalgia of growing up in the '90s. The song blends retro vibes with modern electronic beats, celebrating the simplicity and joy of youth.

Other notable songs from both the first wave of singles and the current ones include Yoko Na featuring Al James, Get Right, No Control, and Sumaya. The entire Lost and Found album (2024) is bop to be honest, but my personal favorites are Silent Cries, See Me, and Honest.

Felip / Ken

Under his solo name "Felip," he has released tracks like "Palayo" and "Bulan," which explore his creative individuality and experiment with contemporary R&B and hip-hop with some traditional elements. Fake Faces easily makes him a "Rocksta." Let me add Kanako too. It's in Bisaya (another language in the Philippines).

Apart from the singles, he has released the 7 Sins (2024) album. I love the entire album, especially the rage song "envy" and the inspiring "ache." The kids choir at the song's bridge can melt your heart further amid the already heart-melting lyrics. His collaboration with Dutch-Filipino R&B singer Cyra Gwynth "lust" is a must-listen to track as well. The entire album is a must-listen to, actually.

Stell

Stell's songs combine a mix of ballads and pop tracks that allow him to express his personal experiences and artistic growth beyond his work with SB19.

However, because I’m located in the Global South, because I’m the product of several generations of law and medicine, l never let myself think that it could be anything more than a hobby only for my spare time. It wasn’t until 2020 that I took a leap of faith, quitting my office job and deferring my master’s program abroad in order to write a fantasy romance epic rooted in Southeast Asian culture, tradition, and mythology.

And now, flash forward three years, my debut novel THE HURRICANE WARS is a USA Today, Indie, and New York Times bestseller in its first week of release! This would never have been possible without: my communities, fandom and Filipino, and all the book bloggers who really showed up for this novel, who tirelessly spread the word; my brilliant agent Thao Le who’s had my back since day one; my Harper Voyager US team, who poured so much time and creative energy into THW’s publishing and campaign; and the booksellers and librarians throughout the US who advocated for an unknown brown author’s debut to have a place on their shelves. I owe it all to you!

I kind of want to cry for the girl I used to be, battling mental health issues and flitting from one degree program to the next, hoping to find the one that was fulfilling and “acceptable” at the same time, even though deep down writing was all there ever was or could be. I kind of want that girl to see into her future and say “Kaya naman pala” and wallow a bit. But I prefer to embrace this moment, in awe at the knowledge that my past has informed the voice that I now share with the world, and it is this same past that has gotten me here.

I’m proud to represent my motherland the Philippines in this achievement. I hope that in some small way this can be a step toward encouraging Southeast Asian policymakers to address the gaps in support and infrastructure for our talented local writing scenes, as well as motivating the global publishing industry to seek out more Southeast Asian writers and give our stories a platform. FLORIAN SANICO is the young, hot, and not rich CEO of ACIDIC RECORDS. He only acquired Acidic Records after his stepfather's passing in 2020. Being born in the Philippines in 1988 to a single mom, Florian grew up primarily raised by his grandparents until his mom found her future husband when Florian was just seven years old. Florian's stepfather would embody the term "the father that stepped up," immediately taking on the father role in Florian's life that the little boy so desperately wanted. When he was ten years old, Florian's father, a South Korean man, would relocate the family to South Korea for his work and to provide a better life for them, which he most certainly did. While in South Korea, Florian would attend the most expensive international school and the most prestigious universities there, obtaining degrees in business management, marketing, psychology, and international business.

Money has never been an issue for Florian if you can't tell.

Acidic Records was a mere side quest for his father, only housing underground indie soloists and producers. They never did anything noteworthy until Florian was appointed CEO in 2020, immediately opening auditions for their training program. Florian has always believed KPOP was where the money was, and his father was just too old to handle the times.

He was...almost right!

With the debut of BRATPACK in 2022, Florian found it much more difficult to break into the KPOP market than planned, initially losing a lot of money in the BRATPACK venture. However, with the group's rapidly rising success and album sales, Florian might not be such a failure after all.

ALMANDA SUMMERS is the alias of the creative director of BRATPACK. No one knows who she is or has ever seen her face. No one can find anything about this woman; seriously, she is a mystery.

Almanda, believed to be a woman in her late twenties, is very active on Twitter and Instagram, often posting pictures of her visions for the group and commenting on recent events in the KPOP realm. Though she is quite loved by the fandom, some people believe she is an instigator and gets BRATPACK into drama they would've never gotten into if Almanda just turned her phone off.

Either way, her constantly running mouth doesn't derail her from being one of the most known and sought-after creative directors in KPOP at the moment. Bringing forth aesthetics and ideas the genre has never seen before or has left untouched for too long in her opinion, Almanda is an icon and legend in the making.

TONYA FUKUI is a former African-American—Japanese supermodel whose career was cut short due to a cheating scandal that had her dubbed "Japan's Hottest Homewrecker " for well over a decade now. Though her modeling career was done, she went behind the scenes and started working as a stylist for high-end clients, turned Jpop acts, and turned Kpop acts. Truly, she was just chasing where the money went to fund her purse addiction.

Tonya has worked with groups such as AESPA, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, RED VELVET, SHINEE, EXO, GOT7, STRAYKIDS, NMIXX, BLACKPINK, and many, many more. If you liked an outfit your favorite idol wore, Tonya most likely designed it for them.

Now, she primarily spends her time styling BRATPACK as she claims they let her be as creative as she wants. After years of being a punching bag for the general public, Tonya is finally adored again, mainly just people on BRATPACK Twitter, but hey! It's a start.

AUGUSTUS MOON is the main producer of BRATPACK. He began working in the KPOP industry at just seventeen years old when he and his sister, Autumn Moon, fled America and went to South Korea to get away from their abusive parents. Though Augustus has had some solo releases himself and has garnered a small following, he much prefers sticking behind the scenes as he says, "KPOP is not for me. I hate dancing." even though his Tiktok page will contradict that statement.

Augustus was born in 1995 in Chicago. He doesn't speak much about his time in America, deeming it "a test on if he really wanted to live or not" and saying his life only really started when he moved to South Korea and started making music.

Before exclusively working with Acidic Records and BRATPACK, Augustus would work with a wide variety of KPOP acts and make an even wider variety of songs. Some are phenomenal, and some are the worst things you've ever heard. Not every track can be a winner!

AUTUMN MOON is the main producer of BRATPACK and a part-time soloist. At sixteen, she fled America with her brother and moved to South Korea to get away from her abusive parents. Autumn and Augustus are glued at the hip. You'd swear they're twins by how in sync they are with one another.

Unlike her brother, Autumn is a soloist as well as a producer. However, she has seemingly put her own music career on the back burner to focus on BRATPACK and motherhood. That's right! Actual mother! Autumn has a nine-year-old son, Eunji, who she adores and loves dearly. She married her long-time boyfriend and PRIORITY member, Jang Kiha, last summer and is currently pregnant with their first child.

Autumn has been very open about her love for music and how happy working with BRATPACK makes her. Between her very fulfilling personal life and flourishing career, Autumn has attracted her own fanbase, calling her "Life Goals" and starting the trend of autumnism, where people try to live their lives like Autumn's.

Though her solo career, which only caught her attention once she decided to hang it up, has been put on halt, Autumn is very happy with where she is in life and adds a layer of hope to the BRATPACK team.

The story, which was developed by both Eve and Gogu since October 2023, is partly rooted in the childhood of Eve, a Mindanao native who had grown up with the violence of the Marawi conflict. As the daughter of a Filipino army man, Eve had been exposed to the conflict from a different perspective. Although she too grew up with the intimate and brutal reality of violence, her circumstances did not allow her to view the occupation from the perspective of the oppressed Muslims. Her reality was one that shielded her from understanding the conflict more complexly; thus, in her childhood, she viewed Muslims as aggressors without realising what prompted them to initiate the struggle for an independent state. Through visualising the displacement of the Maranao Muslims in Walay Balay, Eve expresses the inter-connectivity between their alienation to the larger alienation of the many peoples of the Philippines, who have been uprooted from their indigenous consciousness by the violence of colonialism.

“It is clear and important to me to see the story of the Muslim refugees because the Philippines was not a Christian country before the Spanish colonisation. Our ancestors were forced to convert to Christianity so they cannot be seen as enemies of the colonisers. Our ancestors who once owned the land and their identity eventually became lost in their own land stripped away of their own name. In a way, this is my way of telling that tragic, part of our history through our characters who lost their home and are in  search of their identities.” – Eve Baswel

The siege of Marawi, one of the oldest Islamic cities in Mindanao, happened in 2017 when ISIS collapsed the local government, occupied the city, and was warring against the Filipino government for nearly 5 months. Due to the violent conflict, many of the city’s residents had to evacuate, displacing nearly 300,000 people from their ancestral soil. Even after the reclamation of Marawi by the government, the Maranao Muslim refugees who had returned to their native land had been met with many bureaucratic difficulties. Till today, nearly 7 years after the conflict, many Maranao Muslims have not been properly relocated by the government. Due to the strong anti-colonial history that the Mindanao region has in fighting against the imperial subjugations of the Spanish, the Maranao people also refuse to bow to the hegemonic reign of the Catholic-dominated Filipino government, which is aggressively trying to centralise the Filipino landscape against the will of the masses. A way in which the government tries to claim power over the land is by demanding registered land permits from the residents of Marawi, who, in defiance of this neocolonial bureaucracy, refuse to abide by the self-made rules that the puppet government imposes on their rightful native land, a revolutionary spirit they have critically carried on since struggling against the violence of Spanish and American colonialism.

“Displacement is not new to us,” says Gogu, referring to how, as a descant of indentured Tamils who at first faced uprooting from their ancestral land in Tamil Nadu, and once again during the aftermath of colonialism, from the plantations, he too can understand the struggles of displacement, but he states that to him, the uprooting that Maranao Muslims have faced is far worse than the displacement of Plantation Tamils, for the Maranao Muslims had been made landless in their own land while the Plantation Tamils had been made landless on alien soil.
