In honor of the Shandy Wedding
The Alternate Version or What the Sick and Twisted Part of Me Wanted
The Wedding is the series finale.  Lots of Stroh angst and tension as well as Shandy cuteness building up to the big day.  Everything goes off without a hitch, it’s gorgeous and all of us cry a little bit.  Just before the recessional, Stroh bursts into the church ‘guns ablazin’ taking out anyone and everyone he can.  Our ever ready team all try to take him out, but are all hit as well.  Someone does hit Stroh with a kill shot (preferably Andy) but not before they’re hit as well.  We fade to black with a church full of dead bodies and blood everywhere.
(I know it has its faults, like Stroh never does the dirty work himself and I don’t think we’ve ever seen him with a gun, and the fact that everyone we love is dead, but just imagine how good blood looks on white.)

I was rewatching Major Crimes and in the episode "Citizens Arrest" Rusty said to Sharon how does he know if she won't lie to him and she responds she won't lie to him, she just needs a reasonable opportunity to assess the facts before she talks to him (She was trying to figure out how to tell Rusty about his father). It just made me think of how Sharon has not told Rusty about Philip Stroh being possibly back in the country. Just a little parallel I noticed.

Pyramid Peak (9,984′) provides a picturesque backdrop for Aloha Lake, in Desolation Wilderness.  Both the peak and the lake have frequently appeared in posts on this website over the year’s beginning with Bernard Martoïa’s post back in April, 2012 (continuing with Herb Stroh’s July, 2014 post and Philip Kramer’s 2019 post).
This distinctive lake is actually a reservoir with a dam on the south end.  The water eventually reaches the American River.  The hundreds of dead lodgepole pine snags that poke above the lake’s surface once grew in the basin that was flooded by the dam.  Aloha Lake now contributes to the water provided to the City of Sacramento.
In her piece, “Desolation Fools,” published a few years back in Medium, Elizabeth Lopatto offered this rather stinging critique:
Before Lake Aloha, this area had what were called the Medley Lakes. That was a long time ago; the dam was built in 1875 and raised in 1914. PG&E’s dam giveth Lake Aloha, and taketh it away later in summer, leaving the remnants of what were once separate lakes. Not yet, though. It’s true that nature frequently remodels all on its own — a volcanic blast here, a forest fire there, what’s a meteor strike between friends? Take a tsunami, a flash flood, a hurricane — it’s not like Ma Nature doesn’t move her water around. But there is something decidedly peculiar about the hiking “leave no trace” philosophy when one is right next to an artificial lake, drained as we see fit. Preserve the wilderness? Why, certainly, I am happy to pack out my trash and forgo a nice fire, but what about the watery grave I am camped next to?I can see the dead trees poking through the surface of the lake, an Ansel Adams photo come to life. Islands now, once land. There’s nothing for it. One more casualty of California’s thirst.

A few thoughts about the promo
So since Rusty is clearly taking shooting lessons, I think that he would be the person who will end up killing Stroh. If that’s the case, I will be quite upset, because, to me, the only two characters who deserve to kill Stroh are Sharon and Fritz.
Kyra is not likely to do a cameo this season, as she is busy with her new show, so I don’t see how Brenda would even pop up to say hi. And frankly, Brenda had an opportunity to shoot Stroh when he broke into her house, and she chose not to.
Also, I can see how Sharon shooting Stroh could be problematic plot-wise, after what she’s been through when she shot Dwight Darnell and what she told Rusty back in season 2 about shooting a guy who was trying to kill his mother. Having her dealing with these emotions again would be quite repetitive, but it’s not like the show didn’t do Andy’s health issues twice, or Provenza’s retirement thoughts three different times, so I don’t see why where Sharon is concerned they would not repeat two similar plots as well. But then again, this show does an excellent job at lazy writing, especially when it comes to Sharon. We rarely get to see a lot of character development for her, so I don’t even know if, besides the wedding, she’ll have much of a plot. Since the race for the Assistant Chief job is clearly over and she’s already got her promotion, it seems like they might just want to wrap up her storyline before the season (and possibly the show) ends.
And of course, these are all assumptions, sprinkled with big grains of salt, for good measure. Who knows what really happens?

I feel as though context should be given to the Phillip Stroh gif set from The Closer you posted a little while ago. He's a rapist who also helps other rapists rape for years before finally being caught and killed by the protagonist. I know for a lot of whump fans that sympathy is required for enjoyment, and if they don't know this, they might unknowingly sympathize with a monsterous rapist.
Oh my Gosh, it’s a tv series, it’s a fictional character.
And even if people like him sadly exist in the real world, and they’re despicable and should be all stopped and incapacitated to hurt anybody, Philip Stroh STILL remains a fictional character.
By the way, I’m pretty confident your statement about simpathy doesn’t fit many whump fans, it certaintly does not fit me.
I made the gifset post as usual, like with every other character, with the show references and all. I didn’t contextualisedit, I never do, as it’s not the point. It’s FICTION. Whumps are FICTIONAL. Whump fans don’t go around in “the real world” hurting people just to see them bleed. Whumps fans enjoy ACTORS performing whumps, no drama involved at all.
Please, help me out, whumpers.

That case. That man. Brenda. Oh my God. She was the first to know the real him. Brenda didn’t deserve any of this and I’m happy that she survived. Brenda was absolutely brilliant. And Kyra just slayed. That intensive moments and that tension. I’m speechless

#BillyBurke and #KyraSedgwick behind the scenes of #TheCloser. I know Philip Stroh was as bad as they get, but geez he was good. Glad we got a solution to his story line

Has anyone else noticed in the elevator, you can still see the stain that was from Philip Stroh's bloody nose from when Brenda pushed him into the elevator on the Closer? Because I've noticed it for a while.
